AT LINFIELD the track is between the home grandstands and the field. There are aluminum bleachers ON the track moving counterclockwise from the grandstand that are about 2/3 the way around the track (probably one more set up next to the grandstand for playoffs).

The most important thing is for we who never sit. We are allowed to roam around the field outside the barriers. You can get so close to the north end zone I've made a one hand catch of an overthrown pass deep in the end zone before. ( we scored next play) Talk about the price of admission....

I won't bring this subject up again
, but I dispute the seedings.

Thank you.

Know I'm a couple days late (too busy working on our coverage and my day job) but I plus-1'd everyone who opposed George's old, tired woe-is-us argument.

Bummer to hear about Steele. Always tough to end your career on an injury. Always a bummer to go into the postseason a good man down.  :-\

One of the new features on the D3 Football site that I enjoy is the pictures of the stadiums for each team on their D3 team page. Along with a few others, I have been bored a little this week waiting for the games to begin. I do look a little like the picture that WC11 posted this week.

So, I started making up things to do that are playoff related. The project that I just finished was to determine (in my estimate) which team (only those in the playoffs) would win the D3 National Championship based SOLELY on their football venue as shown solely on their team page.

In the Mt. Union bracket, Ithaca emerged as having the best football venue (amazing picture by the way). In the Bethel bracket, Wartburg was declared the winner. In the UW Whitewater bracket, it went into overtime. It was close but UWW finally defeats Hampden-Sydney (beautiful setting). In the MHB bracket, the Crusaders new stadium wins easily. In the semis, Ithaca and UWW advance to the finals where Ithaca wins it all. Fun, right? What do any of you think?

We could also have a "you visited them" contest. For example, I have only been to the stadiums of two playoff teams. What about the rest of you? Can anyone claim they have been to ten of the playoff stadiums? That would be pretty amazing!

So, I totally wanted to get in on this. Butterfield Stadium is amazing. What might be tricky to tell from that view is that IC's home bleachers are built into the side of a hill, and thus elevated pretty high. So while they're not close to the field per se, I think the higher view is better. Also, when you go to the top of the home bleachers, you get an unobstructed view of Cayuga Lake. It's fantastic.

So many cool D3 football settings and not enough time!

Put that in our notebook (try to schedule non-conference with Ithaca).

There seems to be a pattern in the Linfield/PLU game scores dating back to 2009. For example, in the last three encounters (2012-13) the CATS have outscored the Lutes, 87-48 with the average score being the CATS 29 and PLU 16. At home, the CATS have outscored the Lutes, 56-24. Since 2009 in games played at the Cat Dome, Linfield has outscored the Lutes 163-75 with average game score favoring the CATS, 41-19.

So, here is the consistent pattern: Over the years, 2009-2013, in the four games played at Linfield, the CATS have essentially doubled up on the Lute score regardless of the situation.

I know how the old cliches go: "You can throw out the records, the statistics and the patterns" in a playoff game of this magnitude, especially in a game involving the CATS and the Lutes. I also understand that "the game will be won on the field by the players and coaches and not by statistics and trends." As a former coach, I totally agree with both. However, the game between the CATS and the Lutes is always a big game with a lot on the line. And yet, regardless of the importance of the game and the fact that the statistics mean nothing come game time, the trend of the CATS doubling up the score on the Lutes just keeps repeating itself.

This being the case, I will go with the CATS tomorrow, 31-16. GO CATS!
