It's odd that I read some won't vote for Elliott for Heismann because Division III has it's own award, the Gagliardi.
But the Gagliardi is not necessarily for the MVP any given year, but rather for the 'citizen soldier.'

Don't you PURPLE PEOPLE squeal too too loudly when it's revealed no award crosses the Rockies and Adam Knoblauch, quarterback at Delaware Valley, is selected the outstanding Qb in Division III.

Bethel guys don't want to have to take a firm position on anything so don't expect Mighty Royal to put any money down.  A buddy of mine from Bethel will say he thinks Concordia is going to beat the Cats one second but then throw in the disclaimer that the Cobbers could get blown out (I hope he reads this!).  I think they feel obligated to lend support for the MIAC but know deep down Linfield is going to be running circles around Concordia come Saturday.

If by chance he does decide to put a wager down tell him to send me another message....I like those odds!

Is there anyone out there in D3 football that Linfield wouldn't blowout??? The fact is, you SHOULD be worried about facing the Cobbers next week. Perhaps it's time you thought about a move to D-II.

I heard a rumor that the Linfield roster was composed of D-I and D-II rejects that didn't recieve enough playing time in their early years. Is that true at all? Elliot?

I'm not worried about giving Concordia a "bad name". All I know for sure...it takes a team to win a championship. We can talk about eachother all we want but it comes down to the result.

2000 - Chad Johnson, QB, Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.)

1999 - Danny Ragsdale, QB, University of Redlands (Calif.)

If I remember my geography correctly, both these schools are west of the Rockies.

Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving.  We are hitting the road later today to be with family.  Actually it will be good to take a break from all of the madness.

See you all at the Catdome

Your grasping for straws my friend...There are no DI or DII rejects on the Wildcats team...and yes we do know how to play as a team...Rest assured...the best team will win this Saturday. 8)

I assume you're trying to offer a veiled insult here by calling them "rejects" although I'm not entirely sure what that insult is. Are you saying that we should somehow be ashamed that our program was good enough to attract Div-I talent? Athletics aside, Linfield is consistently ranked as a top-5 school in the nation (number one three years in a row, I believe, by U.S. News World Report).

Maybe you're trying to build a case for a "moral victory" after the Cobbers get clobbered. That way, if you lose and lose badly, you can "save face" by crying into your beer, "well, they had a bunch of Division I transfers." Boo hoo.

In any event, you're sadly misinformed. Everyone knows that Elliot is a D-I transfer--that's hardly news--when he was injured and lost his starting job. From what I've seen of Alex Smith and of Elliot, I think Utah made a huge mistake.  And as far as I know, the only other D-I transfer is our kicker. I believe he transferred because he was one of five kickers on the team.  Two players is hardly the entire roster.

The only other "high profile" transfer is our wide receiver, Jared Thomas. Except he transferred from Whitworth, a Div-III school. He was their leading receiver and he had to know coming in that he was not going to be our leading receiver. In fact, he's our number three. I'm not entirely sure why he transferred other than success breeds success.  You have a successful program, people are going to want to be a part of it.

None of this matters, because in my opinion, you shouldn't be worried about the two D-I transfers.  What you SHOULD be worried about are all the players Linfield has who never were in D-I but very well COULD be.  Casey Allen is about one of the most talented receivers--big AND fast--you'll ever see.  Hazenburg is undersized for D-I but plays at the level of D-I. You'll see the back of his jersey all day. Our OL is not as big as a lot of D-I players but together they are as dominating as just about any Div-I squad out there. Your defense will be doing well if they get close enough to see the grin on Elliot's face.  Our D-Line and our linebackers are all undersized from a Div-I standpoint but they'll spend so much time in your backfield and blowing up your running plays by consistently anticipating the play that you'll swear there was an extra man in.

Our kids are smart, talented, and physical and you can cry about two players all you want but it's the other ones that will ruin your day.

Man. That's a lot of steam to blow off before the first cup of cofee...
{Clever sign-off goes here.}

cobbernation et al, I took a friend to the Linfield - Menlo game. He had never seen a D-III game and wanted to see the team, and, in particular, the quarterback I had been talking about. It was probably the worst game the Cats played this year. They looked out of sync and still won 38 - 7. He recognized they were not playing well and yet still came away saying, "WOW!"

I'm sure it will be a good game, but this team is special.

ONE GAME AT A TIME! LEAVE NO DOUBT!!

ROR,  No disparaging the award, mind you. Since it is not an MVP award I am referring to other honors.

DenSLA,

Not taken that way.

What I am reacting to is the "anti west coast" sentiment that has been appearing more than usual in recent days.

When I threw out the East Coast Bias comment I was totally joking.
