"Pacific LB Joe Schmelzer #66 came off the sidelines and hit Tony Chiu as he was running for a touchdown."

And they ran that play on ABC's Monday night football.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
If I remember correctly penalty flags went flying....The ref signaled penalty on the 'cats. The boo's came out and Langsdorf stormed the field. Refs were not watching Chiu but were looking for penalties on the runback. Refs all went to the Pacific coach who in return went to Smelzer. Flags were waved off and TOUCHDOWN WILDCATS!  Was that about how it went?

I've actually traded facebook messages with Joe Schmelzer about that game and the fallout of the play.  If I could ever get off my backside and reach out to Tony, I could actually put together a piece on it.

Go for it!

CAT BAT 22

No touchdown was awarded.  We got the ball where he was tackled, if you can believe that.  They actually were going to call P.I. on me....they threw the flag but picked it up.

The ref that would have seen Schmelzer come off the sideline had his hat blow off his head... He turns his head as he reaches for it and misses the end of the play.  I believe this is caught on the video.

I remember running down the sidelines behind tony and seeing  Schmelzer step out ... His chinstrap unbuckled ... I honestly thought about decleating him as I was arriving just as he knocked tony off his feet.  I had a full head of steam and the perfect opportunity.  Had I not played for Rutsch, or for Linfield... Maybe I would have.

Will be in Oregon in July attending a family wedding somewhere on the Hood River. Any recommendations for fun stuff to do ?
Already have a charter to catch some salmon and a rafting trip lined up; anything else ? How far is Bandon Dunes ?

Too far.  But Hood River is a cool town and a great time.  If you want golf, just play Skamania.  If you want to see the ocean, go to Cannon Beach (maybe on your fishing day).  Be sure to see Multnomah Falls, Crown Point, and maybe get in a hike.  There are some great mtn and road biking routes if you are into that.  Top-notch wine, breweries, and food also. Lots of fun hipster watching and things to do in Portlandia too.

D O.C.

Bandon way too far. The course d-train said. Or there's is one south of H.R. on Hwy 281 called Indian Creek.
You will pass Multnomah Falls on the way from the airport in "The Gorge".
If you want to do a loop and see some high plains central Oregon stay south on 281 and back into town after it meets up with Hwy. 35.
Or you could do the sensible thing and rent a helicopter and fly over LINFIELD.

Did Linfield back in November and really enjoyed the experience but probably will not take your recommendation on that one. Probably not much going on this time of year. Maybe I'll come back to Linfield in September during HSC's off week.

That's not the play I remember that was shown on ABC Monday Night Football.  Maybe I am getting an early start on Alzheimers.  My memory says that the Linfield player was all alone in the open headed for the TD...going the other direction....What gives.....
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!
