I'm sure that's posted all over the Linfield locker room.  Maybe its posted in the Cobber locker room too...who knows?

I thought guys would find it interesting to note that the article that I quoted starts with "The one positive piece of news...."

Its good to know that a game played 27 years ago is the only positive piece of news on the game preivew that our SID could find.

Wildcat '64 - I take it you played in that game?
To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

The 1978 loss is one that rings especially painful for those who lived it. I was too young to be there, but motivation is motivation in my book.

I have a beet farm. Right next to my archery range.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Spirit....it was painful...I remember the game.   Cobbs ran off to a 14-0 lead almost immediately.....Cobbs were much bigger and played power football.  After a couple of ineffective series, Rutschman went to Pat Silva to replace QB Alan Schmidlin (Schmidlin had a huge year after replacing Silva for the first game of the year...Silva was injured and didn't get his job back...until this point).   The speed of Larry Doty and Silva turned the game around.  Linfield scored on a Silva to Doty strike across the middle on the first play of the fourth quarter, but missed the PAT, making the score 23-17.  Linfield made some big stops on defense, and with three minutes left, only needed to move the chains once, maybe twice to win the game.  They couldn't get a first down and on fourth down, the ball was snapped badly back to Paul Dombroski, who was tackled.  Concordia went to the air and scored, went ahead 24-23 and Linfield couldn't come back.

The Concordia SID may be considering the game a huge upset, but I would view a win by this Concordia team Saturday to be a bigger upset than the game some 27 years ago.

Foss...I understand what you were saying.  I just think it would be terrible of we left conference champions at home and took third place teams from other leagues.  When you finish third in a conference, it seems to me that the point has been made and you should stay home.

But lets not turn the  d3football playoff into a discussion like we see in the d1 hoops tourney, where some team who was 16-12 in the ACC or SEC feels like the worst injustice has been perpetrated.  Given a choice between a conference champion or a second place team elsewhere, priority goes to the conference champ.   Even if they get their heads beat in like Monmouth did last weekend....

My personal opinion on the AQ...I think it should be changed to PQ...as in Preferred Qualified...Pool A
Criteria:
Conference Champions
Must win last two regular season games
No more than two losses over regular season

Just my opinion.

Hey criswyly! Happy Holiday. Today the biggest shopping day in Mongolia?

That 1978 steppingstone took place right after the 1977 California Lutheran playoff loss. Just another character builder on the way tothe 80's successes.

hey Cats....

this is slightly off topic, but i'm guessing there's a lot more in common between Linfield and Concordia than just a football game this weekend.  During the 30's and 40's, the dustbowl drove many a Midwesterner out to Oregon.   Could all this feuding be because we share lots of DNA?

In that vain, can anyone tell me how much playing time my cousin's son (Fischer) will get this weekend. He was on the Cat team last year, and I think is on it this year.

Best of luck to all my Kernel (it's not Kernal) and Cat 'blood' brothers this weekend.

Johnnie

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Minnesota had a dust bowl. That was in Oklahoma and those parts. Still, the theory on DNA holds true. My wife's family was in Minnesota for awhile before hitting the Oregon Trail in the 1850s. Although they were only there a single generation. There's a fair number of Swedes and Norwegians in the area. Maybe it's the Viking Blood.   ;)

Wildcat, what's the title of that article?  I'm not seeing it in their list and a ctrl-F finds no mention of Elliot or Linfield  ???

Another great story about the unsung heroes.  They make the difference and we all tend to forget about them alot.

Topcat 1,

I see the Stagg Bowl has been moved up to 10:00 a.m. PST this year.  Does that mean that D3 is getting a little more respect? That's a better time slot for us for sure.

Not enough coffee this morning yet and can't remember... When was last year's?  Wasn't it at 8:00?

That is a good time slot.  I wish ESPN2 would offer DVD rebroadcasts of the game, which could be a nice $ maker for the network and a good way to promote D-III.  (I had someone tape last years but it was so snowy you'd think they were in a blizzard.)

Maybe this could be something d3football.com could do?? You'd have to get permission from ESPN2 of course, and probably from NCAA and likely split profits somehow, but I'd be very willing to put down $30 or more for a DVD of the game. With 4,500 in attendance here every week, you might be able to sell 1,500 of those just to 'Cats fans. That's a $45,000 just to one school's fans.

Pat Coleman

The schools have been able to do this in the past. PLU did a nice two-tape set of its 1999 title-winning game, with a few bonus features. I believe Mount Union has done it as well.

Yes, last year's Stagg Bowl was 11 ET, 8 PT.

I just watched the 2003 SJU/Bethel game last night, which is a part of a 2 DVD set including the Mount Union game, so it is possible to obtain the rights and make a copy.  The Mount Union game is the ESPN2 coverage with the ESPN2 announcers (I prefer the SJU radio guys, but oh well).  I don't think I paid quite $30 for the 2 DVD set.  It is a great thing to have!  Great idea to do this generally.  I don't know if SJU would have done it had it not been for all of the other special things surrounding the 2003 season.

AZCATDADDY

I hope all cat fans everywhere had a great Thanksgiving. As my family ate turkey and corn on the cobb, my thought was how I wish I could send some of this 80 degree weather to my fellow cat fans in McMinnville from AZ. Friday, I get to listen to the devils and the cats play for the bragging rights in AZ. Only time this week I won't be rooting for a cat victory. Saturday, I will be tuned in listening to the real wildcats.  ;D
