L&C will drop football, probably sooner than later.     The NWC desparately needs more members to play at least  6 conference games, and preferably 7.

Don't count on Pacific, George Fox, Albertson, or Colorado College ever joing this conference in football.     L&C's decision will only make it more unlikely they will ever join for football.

But, Southern Oregon, Western Oregon adn Eastern Oregon should be eagerly  encouraged and invited to join Division III and  the NWC.    They are all competitive, better programs than L&C.

The split up of the old NAIA conference 10 years ago still has bad, bad repercussions.     But, the NWC Presidents need to get off their elitist,  high horse attitude.    Their antagonism towards public colleges, twice rejecting Eastern Oregon, is NOT good for small college football in the northwest.

After all, if the Pac-10 can have USC and Stanford among 8  public universities, why can't the NWC have some public small colleges?

The rest of Division III has given much respect ot the NWC.
But, top to bottom, the old, bigger conference 10 years ago was stronger yet.    That was truly a tough, tough conference.

Tomorrrow:   Linfield 35, Western Oregon 21.    It will not be  a picnic.

I, too, and sorry that L&C dropped football.

Colorado College is strongly rumored to be going to the SCAC as the 11th.  The SCAC has stated that they want 12 teams in 2 divisions and it looks like they are hunting for someone to the East.

Aside from struggling to find West Region D3 opponents, I think that the NWC will almost always get 2 bids in the 32-team format from Pool B.

The Pool B issue is impacted by those mediocre independents who would rather have a Pool A for their weak conference champion.

I will post some old archives from the old Pool B message board.  With the NWC appearing to stay in Pool B, this must put some pressure on the independents such as the North Atlantic 4 (Husson, Becker, Mt Ida and NEFC-pariticipant Maine Maritime) to form their own conference.  Also, the ACFC maybe impacted as well.  We are certain that the Pres AC is going to Pool A with the addition of Thomas More and Saint Vincent and maybe Seton Hill as well.  I don't think that the playoffs are a big deal for the UAA, but I have no evidence for that impression.

George......the change to d3 hsa been the best thing to happen to the NWC for the overall of small college athletics.  If the NAIA days were so good, I'll remind you that both Pacific and Oregon Tech both dropped football during the Columbia Football Association days.    And please, allowing the public colleges into the NWC?   Whether you like it or not, that just isn't going to happen.   Thinking that it will is a fantasy and arguing that it should is a waste of time.

Lest you think that the non football schools are out to harm the football schools in the NWC, I'll remind everyone that the presidents of the non football schools did vote to allow provisional membership in one sport.....thus Menlo accepted provisional membership in the NWC for football only (the conference did extend an invitation to Colorado College, but they declined).

Other than that, everyone else has the bases covered in this discussion.   Bravo to WC11, Bluenote and the rest for some very good takes on this.

The McMinnville News Register is reporting this morning that the AD's are going to have conference call to discuss alternatives.   And from what I've heard from comments attributed to non Linfield people within the NWC, I'll say "stay tuned".
