Linfield should just win that first game and stay in Texas all week.  Then the NCAA penny-pinchers can really save some bucks.

Oakland Raiders did it. Played the Jaguars and rested in Tampa.

Share a room with you again desertcat1. We can stay in Austin for a week.

I thought I had a basic understanding of the criteria used by the committee...I missed something!

Higher D3football.com ranking for Linfield...not considered....UNDERSTOOD!

Record...HSU= 9-1
Record...Linfield = 8-1
Does this have meaning?   I don't know???

SOS..This really does have meaning.
Linfield = 51
HSU.....= 58

Either team has to fly to the other...that's a push!

Please help me get a handle on the decision to fly Linfield to HSU.

That is why I am confused. Same record (aka 1 loss), similar SOS that favors Linfield, both lost to same team on the road... how does the team that wins their conference not get the nod over the team that doesn't.

3 things that matter:  1.  Yes having 1 less game (and one less win) matters a little  2.  Result vs common opponent clearly favors HSU.  3.  This sets up a possible no-flight scenario in round 2 (sure--if HSU beat the CATS at the dome then same thing but this helps it along a little).

But really--I think it's just #2 (pun intended)
Go Cats!

Ok...you're on to something with the common opponent angle...I didn't see that one.
Still...kinda smelly if one considers conference Champ vs not so much....!

Everybody says that SOS is a main factor right ? What was Mounts SOS ?  Are they in based on prior championships ?  Hell I don't know.  They are a great program but --  Anyway, sending us on the road just doesn't smell right.  On  that note, lets play the second season.  Our boys will play anyone out there, anywhere out there.

Phone it in, here come the Cats !!!  Fasten your seatbelts.

Get it boys.  GHC out

Are you kidding me !!!  We don't draw a frickin home game.  Unreal

I agree, I like to see that the committee did some good things this year. 1. Not pitting any conference foes in the first round.
2. Mt Union, whose stats this year barely get them in, goes on the road, looks like for multiple rounds.
BUT..........
The only reason for HSU to host Linfield instead of the other way around is to give HSU that slight advantage in hopes they beat Linfield so no flight for round two.  That, in my opinion, is pathetic!
Yeah--they "splurged" on 3 first round flights with hopes of 0 second round flights.

right---how much can a week of hotels cost? and a thanksgiving dinner for a football team, and a couple of buses, and....hmmm....

okay, probably about the same as another plane ticket  ;D

I'm too lazy to look, when is the game? If wc11 brings me a shirt and I can make it over to Abilene I'll help out with the cheering section

You've hit the nail on the head here with No. 2.

For what it's worth, I don't think 8-1 vs. 9-1 makes a difference or has ever made a difference. Only thing is that Linfield missed a chance to perhaps play someone else and pick up a win against a regionally ranked team but generally, teams with the same number of D-III losses are looked at as the same in football.

So, to impress the ncaa one year with your SOS you schedule tough  (and far).
Just don't give up 66 points.

Anyone else feel subtle pressure to play 10 games?
