I'm not sure how much the new AD search will affect sports programs.

This will be a BIG deal.
Anybody know where things stand on this currently?

Nope.

have you applied?   ::)

I would be a terrible hire.   ;D
Perhaps for the other sports but I think the football program would have it pretty good!

Let's just postulate we will not be hiring any woman from Willamette with a hidden agenda and a chip on her shoulder.

I think everyone understands when d3football.com has stated many times it's $udget.
George must know that. He questions all things being equal why he can't see more home games.
Again, GT, Coach Smith has accepted the way the bones are thrown. We can try.
If getting back to the Stagg is so hard, we can cling to being mentioned as elite team.
May be that's de-evolving.

The problem for Linfield is that it hasn't beaten these midwestern opponents in the playoffs and it makes it really hard to justify sending those teams to Linfield when all else is equal:

vs. St. Thomas: Lost in 2015, 2010
vs. UW-Whitewater: Lost in 2014, 2013 (and more)
vs. UW-Oshkosh: Lost at home in 2012

In order to win some of those tiebreakers with these teams, Linfield is going to have to go on the road and beat them, like UWW did when it came to Linfield in 2005. Linfield hasn't beaten any of these teams on the road and they only beat St. Thomas at home in 2009. Linfield lost the homefield advantage in 2010 in a decision even George Thompson doesn't dispute.

On the opposite side, Linfield went to Mary Hardin-Baylor and won in 2014, and then UMHB had to come to Linfield in 2015. There it worked in Linfield's favor, right?

I can't promise this is the committee's thinking, because they surely wouldn't admit to it even if I asked, but there's a decent amount of evidence here to suggest that's the case.

Pat, I agree with you.   No argument on the record and that logic.

This year, H-S had the home game and yet we beat them there.   NCAA logic didn't work.

Regarding the Midwest bias, I am old enough to remember The Big Ten beating the old PPC almost every year in the Rose Bowl from 1947 to 1959.    And they were smug and condescending about it.   Then Washington, with a one-eyed QB, beat them two years in a row.    Ever since the West Coast and the midwest are on a par.    So, excuse me, for feeling the draws may not be based just on "facts".   Maybe they are and maybe not.

I guess any west coast team is going to have to win big, or at least twice, on the road against the Midwest to earn a home playoff game.

Can't win twice before you win once. And this would be the same standard it appears everyone else has to live up to -- the PNW shouldn't be exempt.

[sarcasm] Can we talk about the St. Johns bias in the Gagliardi Trophy Selection.....I mean Sam Riddle had to travel further than any other player nominated......and then gets beaten by a Midwestern player....when will it end!  [/sarcasm]

Congrats to Mr. Hanson.

10 of the 24 Gagliardi winners have gone to 2 of the 230+ D3 schools - Mt. Union & St. John's.

I guess I am not clear if the award goes to the best player in D3, or the player who best exemplifies the quality of the award in totality, or a combination of both. And if this changes year to year, or not.

As it has gone to a player from Mt. Union 7 times, I have to think the "best player" part was a huge factor those seasons. As were the years of the Elliotts - SJU's in 2003 and Linfield's in 2005 - they were without question the best players in D3 those years they were nominated. Same with Justin Beaver from UW-W in 2007 - he was the best player nominated. Other seasons, it hasn't necessarily appeared to be the best player.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

... can't wait to see the QB battle next spring.... heard there was a 6-3 dude in the mix.... passes like Bohme?

He's got to be ablle to break a run too.
Watch the Stagg. Jackson has nothing to lose.

I'm a voter, and I don't know either. But it was hard to deny that Carter Hanson's off-the-field credentials were amazing, and honestly, maybe the best of any finalist ever. 4.00 GPA, and his community service work was amazing.

You could definitely make a strong case for all five of these guys being "the best player" in Division III.

2015   Joe Callahan   QB   Wesley
2014   Kevin Burke   QB   Mount Union
2013   Kevin Burke   QB   Mount Union
2012   Scottie Williams   RB   Elmhurst
2011   Michael Zweifel   WR   Dubuque

Watching Carter's off the field resume roll along I thought there was no way he doesn't win but the award is really confusing as it seems to fluctuate between best player on the field and best player who represents the spirit of D3. Guys like Carter and Sam makes me feel good about the future of our country!

D O.C.

I found the show to be representative of the Division.

PC... nice job on the interviews. (I always taught my 5th graders to "take the award with the left hand and shake with the right." In this case the microphone.)

I thought Riddle was great when PC asked about MHB. He broke his rhythm and answered succinctly 3 points that did LINFIELD in.

Congratulations Carter Hanson.
