What is the story about Garrett Wales?  Why isn't he doing any kicking?
Not on roster to do it.

11- Great analogy between spandex/Concordia.

I will go ahead and thank all of the Midwest posters who will come on here and tell us that Linfield "better play their 'A' game"" to beat ww. Really? I thought we could play our 'd-' game to beat the #2 team in the nation. I hope Locey reads these boards.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

I have already given my thoughts on the ball-control offense and how it came back to bite the Cobbers in the end.  But interestingly this line of thinking seems to permeate the fans as well based on their posts.

We need a nice grind it out drive here and a TD - linfield just scored. 21-14 linfield

They're DOWN seven and they're thinking grind it out?  To what, tie it and not leave enough time on the clock?

The knd of clock-eating drives the Cobbers are known for!

Ditto. I fail to understand the logic of this thinking.

Concordia needs to eat up clock on the way to the endzone like Don Krause through a mountain of food.

This last one was also posted when they're down seven.  They then went down 14 and the Cobbers fans stopped posting. But their team--to me--still looked like it wanted to grind it out when all they did was grind to a stop.

This is especially puzzling to me because the Cobbers showed--surprisingly--that they had a very good and effective passing game when they wanted to. Their QB threw some crips balls, for a while there he was perfect and then started missing. But they most certainly could throw the ball.

To put a spin on the old real estate montra, I guess it's all adjustments, adjustments, adjustments. And for whatever reason, they just could not, or would not, get out of their game plan.

The Cats will need to bring their "A" game next week. The Warhawks are an excellent team. They are very solid all the way around. Their air attack was much better than I expected. It sounds like the Cobbers gave you all you could handle. Congrats to the Cobbers for doing the MIAC proud.

I expect a great game next week. With the Johnnies losing today, you have my full support(for what that is worth :-\). When my son played against you guys in 2002 and 2003, he mentioned how impressed he was with the class of your players. I have been impressed with the class Coco has shown to me as well. He also assures me that Gig and Wildcat 11, are really great guys.

Whitewater IMHO deserves their high ranking. Good luck!

86,

Thanks for bringing me back to reality. I guess Linfield does have some fans who are less than classy. Someone pays your team and fans a sincere compliment and mentions they are going to support your team and you come back with a smarta$$ reply. I tell my kids to "play hard" whenever they compete. That's obvious to them, without my saying it, but they have the intelligence to know I meant them well and the  respect to not say "da".

Way to represent your team.

Coco,

What's the scoop on this guy.

As perplexing as it seemed I think I kind of get why the CornDogs kept trying to "grind it out".  True, they had success with the pass in the first half but most of that success was due to the Cats not covering a guy (e.g. blown coverage leaving a reciever wide open or DBs going for the ball and missing it).  Once those problems were fixed at half time AND once the Cats started pushing through the line and putting pressure on the QB, they lost faith in the passing game and reverted to their old standbye.  It is not unlike the Cats trying to run it in the first half, gettng stuffed and going back to the passing game.  The only difference is that Linfield was able to stop the run in the 2nd half and Concordia could not stop the pass.....Also, imagine the score had the Cats not stopped Concordia those two times (with missed FG attempts) or had the Cats not tured the ball over near the endzone a few times.....could have been more like 42-28 which is what most people were expecting (at least on the Cat side of things).....Anyway, Cat D is really going to have to step up big again next week against a team that is very well rounded on offense and defense...............Go CATS
Go Cats!

Fa Natic...you're right on it.   Adjustments, adjustments, adjustments.....

Kinda funny reading some of the ingame banter.  While most of it is update stuff, the "smack" that goes on based on radio reports is a bit amusing.   I feel bad for our Linfield Nation brethren who can't be here for the games.   While many of us had some real anxiety of what we were seeing yesterday, I can't imagine what it was like listening to it on the radio/internet.

Two statistical notes.   Concordia had 38 minutes of clock possession, 22 of it in the first half.   Concordia was also plus three against the top team in d3 in turnover margin.  And yet the Cats won by two TD's.

Personally, I'm sad the Johnnies aren't coming out.  I was looking forward to renewing friendships with the SJU faithful.   Somehow, I don't think it is going to be the same sort of feeling this week with the Warhawks coming out.

Wildcat'64

Good article today in the Milwaukee Journal on the Warhawks..www.jsonline.com/sports....

"Whitewater Moves On"

"Whitewater showed perfect balance on offense, rushing for 185 yards and passing for 192".

The next team up for the Cats will be a real challenge as they have both a running and passing attack!
LEAVE NO DOUBT

Congrats to the Cats!  Sorry the Johnnies couldn't set up a rematch this year.  I'm now on your bandwagon!  Beat the Warhawks!

Gotta reply to Cat Fa Natic with some facts about the crowd yesterday at the Catdome. The reason you found parking so easy was because all the students were gone. We tailgate in the South parking lot and it was packed and overflowing without the student cars. I sat in the stadium for the first half and spent the second half on the sidelines. I thought the fans were way into the game and the stadium was packed. Last week there were some empty reserved seats in the corner. I also noticed that all the portable bleachers were mostly full and it was deeper on the sidelines.

The only area that might have been lighter was in the vistors' bleachers. Oxy probably brought more (rude) fans. The Cobber crowd, while disappointed, was really well behaved and respectful. Not sure why we don't arm the ticket takers with clickers to get an accurate count, but don't think we ever have and probably never will. Not sure it matters.

I hope we don't have SCIAC refs next game, they are slightly retarded according to the old fart sitting next to me.
HAHA, the crew was from the SCIAC?  You'd be better off with blind midgets throwing hotdogs at each other.  Nothing but phantom PI's get called in the SCIAC and they stopped calling holding a couple years back.

   Thanks Oxy,
I have been searching for the right description for the SCIAC team in stripes yesterday you hit it on the money and you wern't at the game.  NIICCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEE !!!!!!

Thanks for the surrort. I was looking forward to seeing you guys next week. Can't imagine the Johnnies fumbling the ball ? times and the receivers having trouble holding on to the ball. Were the warhawks tackling the ball? Anyway the cobbs represented the MIAC very well.

George Thompson

Well, well, well.    Linfield can't beat everybody 60-0.    What a shocking surprise!    Phone it in all you want, but these playoffs can be, and usually are, tough games.

Concordia played a great 1st half.    Linfield played a great 2nd half.   Congrats to the Cobbers.   You were clearly the best team we faced this year.

Next week, Whitewater will certainly challenge Linfield.    The Wildcats will need to play 4 good quarters to win.    No blow out expected.

GO CATS, GO!
GO CATS! GO!

Thanks, LBC.  I'm sad, too, that Johnies aren't coming out.  I would really have liked to have a shot at them. Those last two losses to them still sting a little.

That's true. I'd forgotten most of the students' cars would have been gone.  But the stadium was lighter in my area (north end) than usual. Crowd was certainly quieter for the first half but responded vigorously in the second.
