Philosophy major, Foss, Came across the word way too much.

Pat, it doesn't affect us out here, but I'm curious why Mount Union is ranked #1 over Wittenberg in the North Region. They're both 9-0 and unless I've missed it, neither has a win over a regionally ranked team. But Wittenberg's SOS is higher.

So, why wouldn't Wittenberg be ranked ahead of UMU at this stage? They seemed to rank the North Region's undefeated teams by SOS last week. UMU had the highest SOS, so they were ranked #1. Wittenberg now has the highest SOS of the unbeatens this week. But they aren't #1, UMU is.

One of the criteria also allows the committee to use the previous year's playoff results as a tiebreaker among unbeaten teams. Besides, let's be honest -- Mount Union should be the No. 1 team in the North as long as it is unbeaten.

I don't doubt UMU is the best team in the North and "logically" should be #1. It's just that the NCAA at times seems to utilize selective logic/honesty when it comes to rankings teams.

Yeah but when did logic become a part of this process?

Pat Coleman

I cited the part of the selection and ranking criteria which apply here, so I don't think it's accurate to term this "selective" at all.

...the Cats  should put one hand over their mouth and one hand over their ass.

As long as that second hand has some lube on it, pre-ass placement, y'all should be fine

I guess the lesson from the NCAA is that while the reward for beating UMHB in the non-confernece would be great the punishment is equally as bad.

Just have to take care of business against Pacific, if we lose to the Boxers then we deserve where they send us.

I'm going to calmly wait for the conversation to develop.
What I (initially)see is what WC11 sees...why schedule really high quality, tough non conference opponents?
Sure...I know, there's lots of criteria and I'm ready to learn.  Fire away!

Different opinions.

Perhaps, but selective makes it sound arbitrary and subjective, where this is really one part of the criteria that has been applied very consistently over the five or six years it has been on the books.

Andy Jamison - Walla Walla Wildcat

Cats need to focus on Pacific.  It'll be interesting to see if the o-line is improved this week as I thought that the UPS d-line simply got worn out in the first half with all the running that they were doing in our backfield.  My guess is that Pacific has more d-line bodies that it can rotate.

With that said I'm looking forward to seeing game #2 for Wyatt.  First game jitters should be gone.  It'd be nice if they could get him to the line of scrimmage earlier so he'd have time to read the coverage.  With 8-9 guys in the box it is going to be tough to run against anyone.  But, our receivers matched up on islands should be able to make some big plays.

Our defense and special teams should keep us in any game.  Of course, who knows with our kickoff coverage.

I'm hoping for a win at Pacific and then get pleasantly surprised via the playoff bracket.  Maybe there will be some way to avoid the HSU/MHB/Linfield matchup in rounds 1-2.

Anyway you slice it 2017 has been a great season for the Cats with the inexperience in the offensive skill positions and the injuries to the o-line and Fowler.  Heck of a coaching job if we finish the regular season at 8-1!

gren

If Linfield and any other team in the NWC was in the same spot as UMHB and HSU they would play each other in the first round. My opinion. Granted Pat said one criteria was past performance. Cats won at HSU last year so why should the Cats travel? Hand mouth hand ass get ready for the :"?><:
