WOW, depressing? How is  sunny and 75 in December depressing? Baseball, THE SUN....works for me

Yeah but it's sunny in December, January, February, March... you get the idea. Don't you like a LITTLE variety?  Not counting the occassional earthquake of course...  :D

Oh, we get variety . . . in fact, it was so cold this morning, that I didn't wear flip flops into the office and my first grader actually wore "long pants" to school.

We're having quite the winter here . . . .

;D

rockcat,

David Russell, now there was a runner! I loved watching that guy. He could always gut it out for a  few extra yards. Great kid, too.

Does anyone remember a poster a few weeks back talking about a two-headed monster called McKechenberg? I thought of that when reading the article by OAS. Hope the monster shows up hungry on Saturday!

Sabertooth Tiger..... Barneys?  Are you referring to Barneys on Colorado?  I agree, the winter has been a little nippy here.... I went shorts and a light sweatshirt today to keep from freezing

That game against Whitworth was one of the most dominating performances I've ever seen.  Didn't the Rats only have the ball for like less than five minutes in the first half.  The field was also torn to crap after that game.

When David Russell's name comes up amongst some of my friends who played with him it is like he is a mythical, heroic creature.  He is like Hercules, half-man, half-god in their eyes.  They all start telling stories about how he ran over this person or that person....it is pretty funny.

You be there and I'll buy :)

In fact, looking at the picture I have up reminds of the stories those guys were telling in the hotel room before the Stagg last year.

Half man, half god. That fits his football performance, but have you ever known a nicer, more humble kid?

Too bad we couldn't clone him.

Not that we've got a shortage of beasts on both sides of the ball this year, but there are a few of those kids you won't forget.

David Russell was my favorite running back. Explosive and never stopped running until the whistle blew. Pat & Co. were right on when they voted him to the D3football 1st Team after the 2002 season.

Great timing on the McKechnie article. It was either exactly one year ago against Occidental or the game the week before against La Crosse when he had like 250 all purpose yards while Purple Haze sat out. That's when everyone, if they didn't already know, how special a player he was.

Looking back on the first two games, I sure didn't expect to beat Oxy by 6 TDs and Concordia by only 2. I thought both would be about right in the middle, maybe 3-4 TDs. The big difference was turnovers. This is no knock against Concordia's performance and the props we have given them is deserved. However, we had a TD picked off and 3 key fumbles. That is at least 2 more scores. Concordia should have had 2 field goals. The called back TD was legit because the holding call enabled their QB to get rid of the ball when he likely would have been sacked. So really, it could have easily been a 3 or 4 TD win. But I'm glad we didn't pull it out until the 4th quarter because that kind of win has to help us. I get the feeling UWW will have a better overall offense (we probably haven't played one as well rounded in the last couple years), but I'm not sure if their defense will be any better than Concordia's. Can't wait to find out.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Tuxguy

Nice recover coco,

I used to talk to his dad on the sidelines during the games, nice family.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

MonroviaCat

Speaking of monster running backs....I remember watching the Tremaine the "Train" Payne run people over...good to see he's still coaching for the Cats!
Go Cats!

You caught that one, huh, Tuxguy?

Thanks, Swede.

Yeah. oldpa! Book a flight and come on out to where it's green and not white. You won't be sorry. It should be a hell of a game.
