I don't fault Frank.  He's thinking of 2018/2019 Linfield teams and will eventually discover that this is a different breed of 'Cats this season.

Our 1st team defense was ridiculously good against Whitworth.  You take away the last two Whitworth drives of the game against the reserves and the Rats had 103 of total offense on the day.

Game was a wrap at half.  Some dumb penalties and turnovers kept the score out of the 50's/60's but it was a butt whooping of an high order against another ranked team.

Onto who I think is an actual better team than Whitworth in Pacific.  The Boxers are going to try to ball control and shorten the game against Linfield next week (think 2013) so it should be a good challenge.
I like our odds--but agree---Pacific looks pretty tough.  Not sure they have the firepower to keep up with the CATS' but their D may slow us down a bit.
Go Cats!

Came down to the Catdome to see if the fool who got the taunting flag yesterday was here running a couple dozen 240s after church.
He was not

Pacific is good; Linfield is excellent. The Boxers may be able to hang for a while, but if the Wildcats can get ahead by two scores early, I don't think Pacific will be able to come back.

The Bearcats lost by 30 for the second straight week, but it's hard to stay close when your special teams give up three touchdowns: two punt returns and a fumbled snap on a third punt.  I continue to think the defense is the most improved part of this Willamette team--Fox's offense is obviously nothing special, but the Bearcats' undersized unit held them to 283 total yards and forced four turnovers.  Here's hoping for a competitive game at home against Lewis & Clark on Saturday.

BP,

The Special Teams issues is mostly likely linked to the shallow talent depth for Willamette.  That should change as that staff keeps adding classes.  If that staff sticks together, I think Willamette will climb in upcoming seasons.

One thing I'll say for Willamette, and all other NWC teams not located in Newberg, is at least they weren't embarrassingly begging Hollywood stars (shooting a movie in the area) to show up to their homecoming game.  Oof, have some respect for yourself.

Week 3 NWC Power Rankings

1. Linfield - Clear number one after non-conference play
2. Whitworth - 3-0 and have 9 picks to their defensive credit
3. Pacific - Still contend they'll be a tough out for Linfield and Whitworth.
4. GFU - Played Chapman down to the wire on the road.  Playing solid defense and showing enough offense to keep games close
5. L&C - Had to feel good to score 66 points in their home opener.  Locey has done a great job at L&C
6. Willamette - Improved over 2019 but still don't have enough dudes
7. UPS - Just blew it against CLU.  The Loggers better hope for a storm of the century when Linfield rolls into town
8. PLU - I know UPS is 0-3 and PLU just won a game but until they start knocking off NWC teams, they'll stay in the basement.

Out of the basement yet or nah?  Sounds like we nearly gave it away in the 2nd half.

Can LINFIELD keep momentum going?

If Pacific converts 3rd downs, possesses the ball, and eats up clock then we could get a tight battle with them.

For the 'Cats offense, if we keep Wyatt upright and give him time, they're going to hit big plays on Pacific.

Going to be a stiff challenge.

Looking forward to see how the Wildcats and Boxers mix it up.  I will be surprised if Pacific will be able to keep pace with the Cats.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Tough first half.    Pacific showed up, big time.   Second half, Linfield took control.

Two big concerns:    Wildcats had some bad penalties.  Ones they should never have.    Kickoff defenders had some problems.   Top Ten teams will make us pay for those miscues.   The Boxers sure did!   I expect the coaches will address these two areas.

Offense and defense were quite good.   This is an extremely talented, but young team.
