SJU92#57, Did all the professional baseball players who can no longer take their amphetamines mail their stash to you? I just logged on and see you were the last post for every single region and topic on the West Region board. Don't think I've ever seen that before, although bluenote has come close in the past after taking down his herbal tea.  :)
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

SJU92#57

Well I was until you popped up... ;D No I just frickin bored...I'm sittin' here trying to help my wife(returned to college again) with her econ home work, trying to explain dollar-cost-averaging to her....fun!!!!! ::)

Foss

I see. Well, good job. Things are a little slow these days out West since everyone but UWW is bummed out, so I'm glad you're posting something that I can read to take my mind off of my misery over my team's unexpected exit, for a few seconds anyway. Now reply so that you that you can have dibs on the entire West Region board again. ;D

When I arrived this morning at school and parked looking over the field and into the purple stadium seats of the Catdome, I sat and reflected for a moment. It was quiet and  empty. It was cold and windy. The only sound was the clanging of the rope on the flagpole. It was both eerie and bleak.

As strange as it may seem, it resembled the empty feeling within me. No more practices. No more games. No more anticipation. No more excitement. Could it possibly be over? I felt very emotional.

For many weeks now and for almost two years, there had been practice; there had been the chatter of victory and championships. The Catdome had been the center of all this and the activity and noise levels had been deafening...we are the Champions!. Practice hard; play harder...after all, we are Linfield football and the Catdome is our home. Long live the Catdome!

This morning, however, the quiet was deafening; the emptiness huge! The season had  abruptly ended. The streak had ended. The run for another championship was over. Images flashed through my mind. The sounds and efforts of thousands of players, coaches and spectators somehow remained. Their echo rang out from goal post to goal post reminding me of the past and of the future. I smiled. I went on into my office feeling better.

What I want to somehow express in this reflection is a little view of what tradition and how champions react to loss. As the day unfolded, I talked to players and coaches; I observed players meeting with coaches; players meeting with players; coaches meeting with coaches. Instead of discussing Wesley and getting ready for Saturday, they were discussing and planning for next season. Instead of depression and gloom and heads hanging down, all spirits and all eyes were up. Already, we were preparing for next season. Every one talked about who was coming back, not about who was leaving. The recruiting efforts moved into full swing. No looking back here.

Championships are not lost, they are won and Linfield has won more than their share. Why? You can just feel it. If it were possible, the returning players would be back on the field tomorrow getting ready for the first game next September. In fact, later in the afternoon I saw a dozen or so guys out on the field playing a little five on five in sub-freezing temperatures. No vacation here. This week has been all about winning and winners. Not surprising, it is just like all other weeks in the Linfield football program.

The beat goes on and real players play on! It is all about pride and being a player, a tradition that is strong and vibrant at the Catdome! Go Cats!

Wow, that was good. Every day I walk by the Catdome and have felt that way. I see workers dismantling the bleachers and the white railing around the field. It's sad, it's sad knowing that on Sat. I don't have to rush from work to the stadium, or listen to D&D on KLYC. I'll miss talking to Swede at work about the next game. The 'Cats will bounce back. I can't wait till next season....

QuoteThe only sound was the clanging of the rope on the flagpole.

if it was a Hollywood movie and you wanted sound effects for prologue that would be the lonliest sound on earth

pdawg

Very lonely sound...however, the flagpole did indicate it was ready for next season, just like the rest of us!

Tuxguy

Very nice pdawg........... Thanks!

We Will Be Back!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!
