raiderguy,

Let me break this down for you. And I'll do it slowly because I get the feeling that's how things need to be explained to you.

"You are pissed at the NCAA because they did not ship a "west bracket" team to the "north" so you could have an easier run to Salem and assume that WW was just good enough to eliminate all comers from the North/East bracket  and then you would surely take care of business on national TV."

First off, if you knew jack about the postseason seedings, you would know that they have placed a WIAC school in the North region before so this wasn't some out of the world idea. There were countless people on all the boards from various regions who at one time or another thought that would make the most sense. There were 5 undefeated and 5 top 9 teams in this region, including the #1, #2, and #3 teams. There were some upsets that happened late in the season that might have made it less likely, but it was still generating discussion. It only made sense. Tune in, please. I'm sorry you didn't want to have to play any of the top ranked teams in your region. You got your wish. Even without UWW in the West, things wouldn't have been easy for anyone. But God forbid, it might have made things more equal across the regions. And I never said we would have taken care of business on national TV, so don't put words in my mouth.

"So losing in the Stagg would prove to the viewers that you are losers on the National stage and that's OK. Just don't make us lose at home. "

I really don't appreciate you calling our squad losers. I really don't.

raiderguy, I notice you keep quoting people all over the West Region boards looking to pick arguments with every part of their posts. Are you one of those guys who gets the holiday blues and has to try and annoy people so that he can feel better? Why don't you just be happy that despite dropping a regular season game, you still got homefield throughout the playoffs and had no one, other than Capital, challenge you so far?
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

raiderguy...what changes next Sunday is that IF and that's a big if, MUC doesn't keep it close then it will confirm that the real Stagg Bowl was in McMinnville last week.

That being said, I have a hard time believing that Mount won't be in this game until the end with every opportunity to win it...But for the record, I'll be rooting HARD for a Triple Monkey Stomp by Whitewater, which is going against my usual...I like to root for teams like the Yankees and MUC just because everybody hates them soooo much.   People hate them for the same reason...they're jealous!  I'm thinking it will be a great game!

To lighten things up a bit I understand that the Gagliardi Trophy award winner is to be announced tomorrow and Pat says there may be a leak today as to who the winner is.

Who knows but what Brett may be recognized for his great contribution to Linfield and D3 football once again.

I think the ONLY player that has a legitimate claim other than Elliott would be Beaver from Whitewater.  He's got incredible numbers and his team is where it is.  I don't know the history of the award but he could be hurt by being only a soph.  I really wouldn't have a problem with it if he won it, anybody else and the award becomes a bit debatable to me.

Congrats to Brett for his 9th place finish in the Public vote for the Heisman! Great job everyone. Over 8600 votes.

All this MUC talk is getting to me, walk through your bracket and not play anyone......Thats right, not play anyone! At least when the Cats played the beast from the East they had their starters playing, 52-0 as I recall. Oh and yes, I know, we will be watching not playing this sat. I just hope the game is worth watching.......GO WARHAWKS!......"Leave It to Beaver"

downtown48,

As a serious and respected student of the game your comments are encouraging.  I had forgotten that Beaver is a Sophmore. The thought that he has 2 more years to play is a frightening prospect to their opponents.

I'd like to think that Elliott might carry some of last year's success with him in the balloting this year though we did come up short.  We lost to a great team who I'd think most of us expect to win it all on Saturday.

With the seniors who are nominated, I don't think the Gagliardi will go to a sophomore.

As tough as Beaver is now, though, can you imagine what he'll be like in 2 more years? I hope that kid doesn't get hurt, because at this pace he might be another one who could be a D3 Heisman nominee his senior year.

Interesting discussion going on over on the Oregonlive/Oregon State University Football Board.  A poster states that the Beavers #2 QB (who came in after the #1 QB was injured in the Stanford game and then started the Oregon game) is transferring to Linfield next year.  Anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor out of OSU -- he made it sound like it was a done deal?
LEAVE NO DOUBT

'64...anything that is said on just about any Oregonlive board is probably false.

Tim Benzel is going to be our QB next season and he's going to be lights out good.  Linfield may get some solid transfer kids but it's not going to be at QB.

coco.....well said, Beaver is the real deal. seemed like the Cats kept him at bay most of the game, and he still got 197 yards.

On another note: did anyone check out the schools, and how many players each nominated for the all-region team?

Interesting...... Case Western Reserve went 3-7 this year and nominated 9 players.(Linfield nominated 8  ) Look out if they have a winning season!

Tim Benzel gets my vote!!

I'm good with Benzel at QB, too, and Scharer as his backup. No worries there.

wildcat11,

You have your ear very close to the source of Linfield football so it is encouraging to hear you give such a glowing report on Benzel.

We just haven't seen him play enough yet and for those of us who have nothing else to go on besides his 3rd and 4th quarter performances your strong endorsement is reassuring.  When you follow The Legend those are huge shoes to fill.

Opps, Forgot..........My Mother got one of her degrees from Case Western, Sorry Mom...... Just found it interesting that a team with a 3-7 record has 9 all-stars? ???

Well, in their defense, there are only four teams in that conference so I'm sure they had nine guys make first or second team. That's where nominators tend to draw the line.

When I was an SID, though, I always tried to make sure not to flood the market with too many nominees from my school -- I would look at it as splitting the vote if I nominated nine guys.

Pat, Thanks.

I see your point,  But with 9 all-stars and just 4 teams maybe they could have won at least 1 game( in Conference) .
