Cam Cat,

Welcome to the BANDwagon!!!

We can do it -- we will do it -- and the Catdome will have as good of a band as it has a football team ---The "Class" of Division III --- the best Division III Game Day in the nation will include the best band -- one way or the other.
The alums invested in the new Music Building like they did in Phase I of the Catdome---now we can produce the best band in Division III out of that new Music facility.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I don't care if we have a band from from the college, local high schools, or Patton Middle School. That canned music this year was horrible. Some of it sounded like old vinyls from the 60s, played on a record player from the same era, especially at the beginning of the season. It was embarrassing, and I think we can do better than that.

Yes!!  I couldn't agree more: bring back the band! That canned music was downright embarrassing! Especially that first home game with those weird sounds they'd just throw out there at odd moments.  (I didn't know there was a CD of randomly recorded sounds.) Neither the sounds nor the timing of them had anything to do with football.

If I could just add, the whole sound system needs to be improved.  Half the time, the ref's mic wouldn't work, and the pizza giveaway announcer's P.A. was WAY too loud.

If there's a petition for the band, you can add both me and my wife.

Did the end of the SC/Texas game kind of remind you of the Linfield/Whitewater game????A bad dream was just revisited!

Yes.  We thought so too.

Man, what was Reggie Bush thinking with that stupid lateral?  And when Texas went for it on 4th with 19 to go, why on earth didn't someone cover Young??  You had to know he was going to take it in.

Oh well.  The life of a fan.  We always know what SHOULD have happened...

You might want to give more consideration to the HS band idea as a recruiting tool - both in general, and some of those Sousaphone players make excellent offensive linemen! ;D

I agree with the HS band idea, it would be an excellent way to do some recruiting.  Or why not invite some dance teams too?  The local dance team here in Stayton has won the state championship two years in a row.

But as for the H.S. band, I think the H.S. band should only perform at half-time or while the team is off the field right before the game starts.  I'd much rather see our own pep band come back.  Plus, having been around a number of high school bands, there are some I wouldn't want to have to listen to for the entire game.   :-\

That said, we need a better pep band.  The last couple years... well, let's put it this way.  I thought a LITTLE of the money we're spending on athletics maybe ought to go to the music department...  :P

I agree with the sentiment that we don't need a full marching band and with the sentiment that if we're going to have a pep band, it should be a GOOD one.  But it could be worse: anyone remember the weird Japanese drummers at Willamette a few years back?  Now that was just... odd. :o

This discussion of the band has become amusing, to say the least.

Gee bring back the band....snap your fingers....all kinds of competent musicians will just fall out of the sky...especially ones who will spend five or six hours a week in their already crowded schedules to practice...and there you go.....you have a pep band to rival Grambling.

All the guys who are promoting the band ought to come to campus, recruit the musicians, buy the sheet music and rent the horns when necessary, get the band the halftime pizza they have demanded in the past from the athletic department, let alone the t-shirts.   I don't think the athletic department should allocate a dime in the budget to a band.    Let the fund raising and the legwork begin right here on this board.

Wildcat'64

LB,

I agree NOT A DIME should come from the athletic department for the Bring Back The Band Campaign....the NEW music department with the NEW Band Reheasal Hall should have their own fund raising campaign.  The college raised the fund for the new building and the Band Rehearsal Hall now we probably need to have a campaign to raise the funds for the necessary instruments, uniforms, etc. to support the students who participate.  I'll put my money where my mouth is for the music department (and I did contribute to the new building) if we can just Bring Back A Quality Band and not the poor rendition of the PA system Linfield Fight Song!

The only thing I find amusing is fielding one of the best small college football teams in the country that has canned music. I think I could even come up with a marching band at halftime.
And there is no reason why Linfield could't have a quality pep band so BRING BACK THE BAND.  :)

I think they should just cut out the middle man and just replace the sound system and hook it up to the scoreboard so we can hear the audio.  They could do so much with that video screen that you wouldn't even think about a band.

This is kind of a shocker to me...why on earth would he want to go to this hell hole, and STILL get bombed by Linfield every year!

It's great to see us all having fun in the off season with this band thing.

Just a few points I'd like to point out from a Musicians stand point!
        1) I'm not sure where the Idea came from that the athletic Dept would give some money to this. "NOT". Music Dept would fit the bill.
         2) A true musician, and if at Linfield in the Music dept. doesnt need to practice that much, at least for the pep band. We're talking simple songs here guys, tunes these kids have been playing for many years!
          3) The sheet music is already in the music Dept. and they already have there own Instruments!

Shouldn't be that big a deal to get a good pep band formed, just need some interest from the dept. and the students. as for the shirts I think we can worry about that later.

bluenote.......where are you? You taught band for many years, whats your take on this? ;D

                        BRING BACK THE (good) BAND!
                                 ;D             ;)            ;D
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Tux,

Since, the plans for the new Music Building show a large Band Rehearsal Room maybe we could rename the room to the "Catdome Rehearsal Hall"  --- perhaps that would make an impression on the Music Department Head that the alums and parents want a band back at the Catdome by next season.

Hopefully the Faun (The Music Department Chair) is working this weekend to put together the press release with the headline:  "Wildcat Band To Return To Catdome in 2006"..

Bring Back A (Good) Band that can play the Linfield Fight Song!
