I don't think the athletic department should allocate a dime in the budget to a band.    Let the fund raising and the legwork begin right here on this board.

You're right that the A.D. shouldn't foot the bill but they certainly SHOULD foot the bill for a new and improved P.A. system.  We had problems with the ref's mic and blaring VOLUME of the P.A. all year.

What everybody really should be bangin' on in here is the absolute cluelessness of the cheerleaders and the scoreboard operator during some of the most important parts of playoff games...

All true. But hey, at least we don't have an announcer saying, "And that's ANOTHER... Willamette... first down," when they're down five scores and they haven't gotten within telescope range of the end zone.

Hee hee... that just slayed me last year at Willamette.  Like, get a clue fella.

Coco....I'm right with you on the Olympic Theme. That tradition was started when I was in college and we used to bring out the full set of Timpani to play it. It needs to be nailed on the head with plenty of power (lots of strong brass) and precision, otherwise it sounds pathetic. The band hasn't nailed it in several years. I figure they never practice it. If you are going to have a pepband you need to actually PRACTICE pepband music as a group before you attempt to play it! Just like the football team actually PRACTICES their plays. What a concept. You can't just tell everybody to show up at the game and hand them a sheet of music and say...OK, now play this. it will sound like a ragtag bunch of beggining band students at the middleschool (it shouldn't but it does) I think that is what has been happening lately and I blame the band director, whoever that is, I'm not even sure these days. I never even see the actual band director at the game, all I see is some student volunteer up in front of the band doing the best they can. I personally feel that the band could be best with a combination of students and local adult/students in a collaberation but it would require organization and at least 1 practice, maybe and evening thing, once per week. Get the national anthem down pat, then the Olympic Theme, the Fight Song for sure for when we score and maybe 5-6 more tunes to start. Get them really solid and then throw in maybe 1-2 new songs per week to build up the repitoire. It's not rocket science but it does take dedication and work on the part of the members and their director.

The UPS announcers do that dumb shoutout, too.

Our announcers have always been first class -- the best in the conference as far as I'm concerned, with their straight-ahead, impartial calling of the game.

That's right, Bluenote! We need to have the big drums going and big brass!
That's a pep band.

I remember when the pep band has included community members, and that's just fine with me! I don't care, just as long as they sound good. One of our fellow posters has a son who played in it, and he's an extremely talented musician, as we all know.  It's got to be frustrating for people like him to play with folks who don't give a crap, though.

Red and Purple,

Wildcat'64;

Red and Purple,

Great Job!!!  If we all stay focused on the objective we will get a good band back at the Catdome to support a Great Football Team.

A great New Years Resolution:  BRING BACK A GREAT BAND IN 2006!   Some of our more creative posters could probably write a few bars to put it to music.

Attention 'Cat Band supporters:

I just heard back from Jeb Bladine at the News Register! He is forwarding my email to Jeff Moody and Starla Pointer (she is a Linfield Alum) and they are going to look into what happened with the Pep Band.

Has anybody actually talked to Carney about this.  Maybe there is a good explanation for the band thing other than ticket sales.  Do you really think Carney needs the newspaper breathing down his neck about something like this?  The man has bigger fish to fry...like remodeling the stadium and getting a new sound system.  ::)

WC 11,

Great Wildcat Video Clips....thank Santa for bringing you the new toy....the one thing that is evident in the clips from the 90's is obviously the size of the crowds at the Catdome.  I went back to the NCAA stats and see that in the mid-90's the Cats were drawing 1,500 per game and of course this year the Catdome rocked with about 4,500 per game.....in another 10 years who knows what the size of the crowds might be....7-8,000??  GHC is going to be awful busy mixing the Iced Tea's if the crowd keeps growing like it has the last 10 years.

Good job on the clips..brought back a few memories!

I sent Carney a short e-mail but he is out till Jan. 10th. However I did send a lengthy one to Faun Teige.

Catband Live joined by the Second Time Around Band.

I still would like to see a marching band at halftime, think I could line a couple up.

I have another oic. for you and the Mrs. but have to find where I put it.

Swede,

I too would like to see a marching band at halftime to improve the overall Game Day atmosphere.  I can't see where Scott would object if someone else could help line up "guest" marching bands.  We still need a good Linfield Pep Band at any rate and hopefully Faun gets the message.   I also sent her a lengthy email as to why we need a quality Wildcat Pep Band but no response as of yet.

Hey Guys, let's get real here...
I love bands but it seems un-cat-like-football to be talking bands and music. Are we bored or what? From my perspective here is reality: the pep band bit the dust due to the dollar and the need to get Cat suporters into good seats in the covered bleachers. Simply put, the athletic department needed the seats! Next, I agree the "canned" music this year was embarrassing, loud and high-schoolish. Yet, the cheerleaders (who do a great job) needed it for some of their routines. Next, what high school band is going to sit in the bleachers in the rain just to play and march at halftime?? Be real guys, unless we come up with more covered bleachers space, no band will play unless the athletic department thinks it is more important than $$ and supporters. Sorry, but I do not have a solution eventhough I love music at games and marching bands. NEXT,
for anyone who wants to get a little psyched about next season consider this: we open with WOU at  home, then travel to Hardin Simmons, then have a bye, then play Willamette!! Game on, early! We also get SOU, Menlo and Whitworth at home. Sounds good to me! Our last scheduled game is against Lewis and Clark and I wonder whether they will be able to field a team. We should be talking recruits and not music, eventhough it is fun, a diversion and an issue.
Next season will be different; it will be a challenge and it will be fun to watch. One key will be who chooses to come to Linfield to play at the Catdome, especially at running back.

Go CATS!

Band or no Band; What an incredible year 2005 was for Linfield Football. You can read about it by clicking on the the link below:

We were truly blessed to watch this team in action.

How many home games did it rain at the last couple years?
I took my grandson out to the Evergreen air museum and sat for awhile and watched a film on the Spruce Goose. Experts in the aviation field said it would be foley to think a plane could be built large enough to hold tanks and troop movers in it. One man said all it would take would be someone with talent and determination. Then there were people who said man would never walk on the moon. The thought of man even going into space was laughed off by many as ridiculous.
In your mind you have buried the pep band along with others at the college and for that I am sad for you. You wouldn't even consider a High school marching performing at halftime at no cost to the college.  >:(
And what High school would say no to performing? You just don't want music. Many hard choices about the football team were made over the years by people who had a vision. I'm just glad you were not one of them.
