I think it's great the NWC  is backing the Pioneers on this. I wasn't happy that CWU and WWU left us in the dust for the NCC in D2 football and felt the weak-a$$ed four-team GNAC wasn't supporting each other. Some agreed on D2football.com, others felt it should be we all fend for ourselves. I pointed out that the NWC supports each other and that's the way it should be.

Not sure what the conference schools can do to help the Pios, however. They can't recruit for them. It's up to the L & C administration to back the sport.

I've always felt L & C and Pacific hurt themselves by comparing themselves to Linfield, looking down the road and saying, "We can never be that good."

Perhaps they're right, but what's wrong with having the sport on campus and being solid and providing athletic opportunities for players and a fun event for alums and fans? L & C and Pacific (hopefully) should try to be Whitworth and Willamette first.

* If Pacific U. brings it back, I hope they hire Lake Oswego coach Steve Coury. He's be a great fit. He has college coaching experience and is a local guy. He works in private business, so he's not locked into PERS or something. I know Ray Baker has lobbied for it in the papers, but the guy leaves jobs every couple years and is near retirement. They should hire Coury.

Ralph -

Just a minor correction - Menlo does have one other sport that is D3 - they play a D3 independent schedule in baseball. Cal Pac doesn't have that sport.

Another reason may be so two sport athletes (football baseball) then don't run afoul of being under two different sets of financial aid and eligibility guideliens

'64,

It's nice to know that we can count on you for the subtle nuances of the game.  But wasn't  Monica admonished for offering the team "Lewinskys" within 24 hours of the game?

I'm glad to see you showing your true Wildcat loyalty by flying all the way down from the Frozen Tundra for the Stevens Point Pounding.

For IRS purposes however, you're down here to collect the rent and  to search the area for other future real estate acquisitions, right?

Have you thought of seeing if you could get Burger King the hamburger concession at the Catdome?

See you at the Tail Gate.

Uh....aren't folks getting ahead of themselves a bit with this business regarding the hiring of a football coach at Pacific??

BTW where is our friend "Kenneth the Prognosticating K".

He's been AWOL ever since he made the prediction that unranked Stevens Point would fly all the way out here to the Catdome, 1900 miles or so and lose by 3 more points than we beat them by last year when they were ranked # 7.

Don't we all need a Whipping Boy?  I for one miss not having him to kick around any more.

After all Conan O'Brien has his master_ _ _ _ _ _ bear and we had our "Prognisticating K."

Though he purports to be a Johnny supporter is it true that he is the full time genius football mind behind the success of DIII football at Hiram College in OH?  ::)

Things are heating up over on the Wisconsin board.....for a little "pre game"entertainment tune in.....for some strange reason these Pointer folks are more focused on the "roof" on the Catdome than they are whether or not they have a chance to beat the Cats!!!

From Tuesday's Portland Tribune:

Lewis & Clark College, which for years has had trouble being competitive in football, announced last week that it won't play Northwest Conference games this season and will consider dropping the sport.
The Palatine Hill school might not like what former head coach Tom Smythe says about the school and its athletic programs. Smythe, who spent six seasons at L&C and has won three state high school championships, plans to rip Pioneer policies and officials in a book he says is in the works.
"I found it especially humorous that the AD (Steve Wallo) and the current president (Thomas Hochstettler) issued statements about a concern for the football players. ... This is a place that hasn't been concerned about football players for a very long time," Smythe says.
Smythe says his L&C players were "demeaned and harassed on a daily basis" on a campus "dominated by gay rights activists and fringe feminists."
Smythe says Lewis & Clark should clean house. "Start over," he says. "Build a school that understands sound mind, sound body. Require all students to take physical education classes. Eliminate the bastion-of-causes atmosphere and actually allow opinions on all sides of issues to be heard equally. Reintroduce a band and a rally squad."

Um, ouch.

Camcat:  Nice to know you missed me.  Actually I have just been seeing how the season unfolds before getting back into the discussion.  So far so good on my picks.  I believe last post of Cats vs SP I conceded your boys are just too strong.  I am most interested in seeing how the Cat D holds up.  I figure if Borchardt and company can put up about 30..so can SJU.  Which means of course the Johnnie D needs to hold you to about four scores..less you go for two each time.  The J's are still figuring a few things out but they dominated a very good Eau Claire Team in the opener. So I still like the J's to meet up with Cats down the road.  It would be nice if your guys slipped up so we could welcome you to warm confines of Central Minnesota in December but
don't expect that to happen.  I have always wanted to see the great Northwest anyway.

A friend of mine is going to be in McMinnville on Saturday for business. I told him to stop by one of the greatest small college venues in the country and he may do so. He's a huge football fan, played backup at Idaho, was recruited by Pacific U., and wished he would've played at Linfield.

I e-mailed him the Maxwell Field photos from the official site to whet his appetite. Any other sites I can go to in persuading him to catch the game?

Does he like Long Islands?  :D

He's not much of a drinker, but he likes the young ladies.  ;D

He's single, not one of those dirty ol' married men embarrassing themselves in front of co-eds.

Kenneth K,

Nice to see you back.  We did miss you. The Pacific Northwest is beautiful and you'd love it here.  It's is a picturesque part of the country with all the rain we get.  I'll be the first to welcome you and buy you a beer.

There is only 100 yards of hostile territory to visitors on just a few Saturdays in the fall.  Many have been left to die there on a rather regular basis.

The Catdome like the Superdome has a leak in it right now so in Nov. you might get a little wet but other than that it's a great stadium.

And your next pick is.............

CamCat,
Glad to see you are back here on the Board getting things straightened out before the UWSP kickoff.  Yep, the wheels on Wildcat One will be in the air shortly and will touch down close to the Catdome (with a few leaks in the roof as you pointed out) as the sun rises over the vineyards.  Should give me 24 hours to get in the right frame of mind for the Tail Gate.
