Swede,

Thanks for mentioning the News Register article.  I am glad to see that Elliott and Allen both improved their 40 yard sprint times.   Let's hope these faster times help improve both their chances.

Here's the article.

40 times for NFL QB's are overrated.  Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Jake Plummer, just to name a few, ran poor 40 times at the combine.  You'd think Plummer would run a good 40, but he ran a 4.9.

To be good in the NFL these day's, a QB needs to be nifty in the pocket (be able to feel the rush and slide to the right spot to avoid it), have a quick releasewith a strong arm, make good smart quick decisions, and have a great grasp of the offense your running.  Elliott has the potential and ability to excel at these different aspects, if given a chance.  He deserves one.

CamCat,

Thanks for posting the News-Register article. I live in Michigan, and it's interesting Detroit was represented at the workout. Joey Harrington didn't seem to play with the same confidence he had at Oregon, and he will be somewhere else soon. The Lions also brought in Jon Kitna, Luke McGowan and Shaun King,
but it's safe to say QB is still a need area. Even if Kitna wins the job, he's not the long term solution. I think Brett and Casey could surprise some of the so-called draft experts.

That sure sounds good to me.  Hope you are right.

What about the signing of Josh Mcown (sp) from Arizona?? I thought he was a possible long-term solution?

WC11, Nice job on the videos and the top 10 all time moments in particular.

We are lucky to have a committed SID who does a great job with the Linfield athletics website, but if an independent Linfield Football website was ever started up, I think you know which Wildcat we would all vote for to do it.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Wildcat 11,

I always enjoy those highlight clips, but I had a question regarding the
radio calls. On the Wartburg 2003 game, was the audio lifted from the
top game camera footage or another source? Thanks.

Since NFL scouts are reluctant to accept the running times recorded by teams other than the ones the scouts represent, Elliott might expect to be asked to run additional timed 40s for any NFL teams continuing to be interested in him other than the Lions.

I have a question for anyone.  These 40 times that Brett refers to.  I assume the test is being hand timed, is that right?  I am pretty sure of this but there are some situations where a laser system is used which is sometimes considered more accurate but often leads to a higher time than the old fashioned way with a stop watch.  Just wondering because of the old "apples and oranges comparison" theory.

Good!  Maybe he'll continue to improve his time then. If he came in at 5.0, then he was only a tenth of a second slower than Matt Leinhart.

This was posted on one of the Seattle news sites:

"NOTE: The Seahawks have been awarded a seventh-round draft pick (No. 249 overall) as compensation for free-agent losses in 2005. They did not lose more compensatory free agents than they signed, but the ones they lost were deemed of a higher value than those they signed."

An extra seventh round pick, eh...?  Hmm, wonder who they could sign with that...

Now wouldn't that be sweet.  Hometown kid in the more-or-less hometown team. Oh well. We can dream.

Unless expressly noted to the contrary, 40 times are hand timed.
