Just an after thought for those guys unable to watch the Elliott Special Sunday night, "Chasing the Dream".  I mentioned on a prior post that since I did not get that channel I paid $5.00 to add it.  I just cancelled today figuring that was the amount I would be charged, only to find out that that was the rate for the full month, and that I would only be charged for the 4 or 5 days of the month I had that service, so it's almost nothing.  For future reference when a special is on a channel you don't have you can get it for a few days very inexpensively - thought some of you might like to know.

For the serious beer drinker, we live in a little slice of heaven, with all the microbreweries out here.
coco, didn't Trask close down? Has anything replaced it?

Cawcdad,

Some new guys bought Trask, and it just reopened yesterday, I think. We haven't been there yet, but will check it out if I can tear Mrs. Coco away from the rooftop.

The new Trask isn't brewing their own beers on premises initially, but they said they will have a wide selection.

Has anyone else here been there yet?

You'll need to know some meaningless facts about the last two years where most of LINFIELD'S games were decided before halftime.

I am glad to see it reopen.  I loved that place.  I was told that there was not enough business to support it and the big brew pub down Third Street that faces on Second Street.  Let's hope there is enough business to support it this time.

Trask had a totally different vibe than other places on 3rd St.  It was cool but it wasn't really a place to chill and talk on a Friday or Saturday because it was so loud.  The live bands would play and their music would bounce off those brick walls.  You could never hear anything.

And August 17 is coming even faster.  165 will report to the field that day in McM...  question is how many will still be there 4 days later on Monday the 21st?

That's almost 20% of the total male student population at Linfield... any others come even close to this?

I'm sure there are a several others that are above 15%. I think Mt. Union has under 2k students with more women then men and they draw 150+ into fall camp. Also, look at the schools that are under 1,000 in total enrollment.

But here's the follow-up question...is this a good thing?

Those are all good numbers!  Probably goes with the turf... D3, quality schools, quality people, quality coaching, opportunity to play and not sit...

Is this a good thing?  Overall yes.  I think players' expectations are probably set OK...  one of the problems though is freshmen from small HSs who think they can play small college because they played HS football.

But they still show each August and this is a much better thing not having the numbers!

Very small schools like Menlo would have a high percentage also.  Menlo's website says they have 700 students, 60% are male.  Last year they had 72 players on their roster which is just over 17%.

One other thing.  It is rare for any college, especially a small liberal arts college to have even 50% male students.  This might be evidence that Menlo is dependent on football for tuition dollars.  Another interesting thing was that Menlo's "Facts" on their athletics page says they are NAIA.  Are they confused?

They are NAIA for most sports.
