As a HSU Cowboys fan I was checking out the website and came across the Big Hits video.   That was awesome!!!  What a recruiting tool that can be.   All the football fans should be in for a great game in Abilene.

Excited to come down and check out Abilene. The afternoon will be Oregon v Oklahoma and the evening will be a top 25 showdown- what more could you ask for?
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

How many Cat fans are going to Abilene?  What is the best airport to fly into?

My group are all flying into DFW. Abilene looks to be around 100 miles from there. Coming in Friday afternoon (from various spots around the nation), and leaving Sunday. Staying both nights in Abilene.

I think that the DFW airport is about 2 hours from Abilene.  Down I-20 West -- straight shot.  The DFW area is very congested with traffic.  Especially on Friday at 5:00 pm.  You may also be able to fly into Abilene from DFW or anywhere else -- just a thought.

Bring umbrellas to the game though.  Or caps, hats and sunscreen.  The visitor side faces the sun and it is brutal!  I'll suspect that it will be about 95-100 degrees at the start of the game.

I will probably be cooking out before the game. So all the D3 er's will be welcome to come over and get some BBQ & talk football!  More on that before the game.  This is such an exciting time.  Can't wait to get things started!

Z,  I would tell the fans who are flying into DFW to give themselves 4 hours from deplaning to arriving in Abilene.  Thirty minutes to get the bags, another 30 minutes before you have the rental car and then 60 minutes to get thru Ft Worth.  Then they can be at HSU in 2 hours from there.

There is about 10 miles of highway construction on I-20 west of Weatherford, east of Ranger hill.

Which high school game is best that  Friday night?  Abilene High?  Cooper High?  Wylie High?

Tuxguy,

Congrats on TG jr's coaching position!  How exciting for all of you!

All three are good teams but I like Wylie because I'm most familiar with 3A teams being from Vernon.  Last year I caught a double header of Vernon/ Wylie and then the HSU game.  HSU has several or might I say -- many players from Cooper so that also may be a good game to go and watch.  I guess it depends on who the opponents are.  I'll check it out and see which game should be the best.

Yes, yes right on the 4 hour planning.  Forgot about how much trouble that DFW terminal can be.

Ralph - I would recommend going to Aledo (15 miles west of FW on IH20) and watching 4A Aledo play 5A Weatherford at Aledo's new stadium.  A town of less than 2000 has a brand new stadium this year that holds over 6 or 7 thousand I believe.  It starts Friday night at 7:30, Aledo has a few will be seniors who have already committed to DI programs (Texas), not sure about Weatherford.  This is on the way to Abilene and would provide a much better game.

Aledo HS has officially 1298.5 students in the top 4 grades (9-12). (That is the number of students that the school district gets to budget for.  Where 0.5 student can mean a couple of thousand dollars, they add up quickly!   :D  )  Aledo has had a good program and have a cool logo for their Bearcat mascot.

How many is Aledo HS marching these days?  250? plus a drill team of 50 and 20 flag bearers?

Big Bookend

What about flying into Lubbock? It would be a cheaper ticket for me. It appears to be about the same distance to Abilene as Dallas, but expect there would be less traffic.

Comments?

Probably right.  I always try and stay away from DFW flying out of Oklahoma City mostly.  Coming from Lubbock it is not a straight shot but it may be a time saver nonetheless.

I hope that there is a large crowd that comes in for the game.
