Read about Linfield in the St. Paul Pioneer Press this morning.  Amazing how much attention a national championship will bring to a program--both good and bad.

I wonder if it would make ESPN.com if Brett Elliott was caught jaywalking.

Camcat--thanks for the classy, sportsmanlike post on the WIAC board recently.

PLU fans--I'm passing on an invitation from one of the Falcon parents: you are invited to the tailgate party at Ramer Field Saturday (noon).

How good is PLU this year? RF is 0-2 against two division two teams, Concordia-St. Paul and Bemidji State, the same 2 teams which had defeated us prior to the PLU game last season. This year's results (26-21 and 37-19) indicate we are a better team this year. However, we're picked to finish last as was the case last season. We finished above Platteville and Oshkosh a year ago. Coach O'Grady has said, with reason it would seem so far, that we can compete for the title this year. I note that the Lutes were picked to finish third and that they lost to Cal Lutheran.

We cant get any MIAC teams, including St John's, to play us because we use the wishbone O. This year, for the first time since the 70's, we have added the shotgun/spread offense because of the versatility of our qb and better than average receivers. We've played Bemidji for the last time, and we hope to continue the series with PLU. We also cant get other D3 teams in Wisconsin (such as St. Norbert's, Carthage, or Lakeland) to play us for the same reason. Perhaps we could get a game w/Linfield?

As mayor of River Falls, and therefore unofficial good will ambassador to our little burg, I welcome all
Lute fans, coaches, and players to River Falls. Good luck--but not so much that you beat us!

Regarding EWU, yes they would destroy any D3 team because they have 63 scholarships. They should've beaten San Jose State this year, they were moving the ball all over the field on them. Their QB is awesome as are many of their other players. They've put a few O-linemen into the NFL.

I wouldn't want to be comparing D3 or D2 to quality I-AA. The size, speed, strength difference is just too great.

Knowing Paul Wulff and his staff, I'm sure they shut down most of the playbook after getting a three-TD lead on the Wolves.

Montana State lost 15-10 to Oklahoma State this year and were driving late in the fourth quarter when they were called for a penalty and then Lulay (the QB) was sacked, ending the drive. EWU may beat MSU this year.

??? ;D ???

Yes, SJU is afraid of the wishbone offense and that is exactly why they don't play RF.
It also could be that Gags is afraid to play a team that hasn't had a winning season since 2000.

Give me a break... SJU is not afraid of your offense, your defense, your special teams, your concesion stand or anything to do with your team.

SJU has 8 conference games and we already play EC every year, what advantage would there be to playing a sub-.500 WIAC team?

MSU did almost beat OSU- a big 12 school. But OSU is TERRIBLE this year. They are going to get the crap kicked out of them 3-5 times this year.

Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Okay,
I played at the University of Montana and when we would play D2 teams we were more worried about partyin after the game.  Now yes we did take the game seriously but we knew there was no way we would ever lose.  Elliot would start at most if not all 1-aa schools if that is what you want me to say but most 1-aa school would kick D3 butt.

If we are mature enough to vote at 18... join the military at 18.. marry at 18... why aren't we able to drink at 18.. that has never made sense to me... it's not like in high school when you can't be an athlete and drink alcohol... it's college - everyone is an adult... Big Deal!!! Not...

On the whole Linfield versus D-1AA - I would bet that we would hang tough for a half and then get worn down by bigger, stronger, faster athletes.  Our better coaching and preparation would go a long ways but bigger stronger athletes, especially in the trenches, would be too much over a 60 minute game.

If it was simply 7 on 7 - we'd hang with any team from 1-AA... Hazenburg, Allen, Kaluza, Thomas, McKechnie, Vierra and Elliott ... they'd do fine...

Tuxguy

DarkHarvest...... Really! You think Elliott might be able to start for some D1aa schools....Pls. He started  D1, and now in D3 has thrown for 71 tds in 15 games. He's a special player and young man and I for 1 am glade he came to Linfield!!!! Go CATS! as always... IMHO
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Gig Harbor Cat

Dark Harvest,
You crack me up,  The Butcher started at Utah before coming to the Cats.  What planet are you from son ???

Come on now, Tux. Don't misquote guys and read a bunch of garbage into someone else's statements. Harvest didn't say 'some,' he said 'most if not all...'

What is wrong with that statement?

GHC, great insight...but I'm guessing he does know that.

Some comments:

Yes, Elliott would start at a lot of D-I's, including Utah this year. I think he's as good as Fresno State's Pinnegar, who is either off the charts good, or really off period. Elliott throws a better ball than Zabransky at BSU, not as good a runner, but if he was in BSU's system, he'd be deadly. Elliott would most likely start at Arizona and Stanford, he'd get PT at Washington. I think Clemens, Brink, and Matt Moore of OSU are slightly better. Then again, you never know how Elliott would do if he grew in those systems under those coaches.

On the drinking issue, I would agree that 18 should be the age, however, kids in this country are so immature about it that they can't handle themselves. When the drinking age was raised to 21 in Idaho, the DUI's and crimes greatly reduced.

In Europe, alcohol isn't a "forbidden fruit" and they aren't raised in a puritanical society. Kids will have a drink at dinner in high school. By the time they're 18, having a beer isn't a big deal. Most (not all) European countries have fewer DUIs and cases of alcoholism than the U.S.

That said, it is 21 in Oregon, they broke the law, they drank in season, and Locey and Linfield handled it in the appropriate manner.

QuoteLocey and Linfield handled it in the appropriate manner.

How was it handled?  Did the school release anything on punishment?

Tux - Prediction: you'll take issue with most, if not all, posts coming from Bearcat fans...IMHO.  ;D

Yeah I realize he started at Utah, a friend of mine, Brent Myers was the oline coach there when he played.  Myers told me that when Elliot went down with the wrist injury against A and M that Urban Meyer said well were screwed.  They all knew Brett was a stud, but Alex Smith had not looked very good in practice up to that point.  You are taking my statement wrong.  Obviously he is good enough to start at a 1-AA I won't ever argue that, heck Montana would have a few more National Titles if he would have come to Missoula but I am saying team wide nobody in D3 hangs past halftime.  What cracks me up is that you all take it to heart and I have not taken a shot at your team.  Just relax, it's not like you get a brownie for trying to show someone up with your football knowledge on D3 football.
