Don't think this has been posted yet...saw on the runner at the bottom of MNF that Feely was cut this evening for the Chargers.  Hope this is good news for Elliott.  At least he doesn't have to worry about the Bolts signing Jeff George, the Raiders just made themselves that much worse by signing him today.

LBC...I am eternally indebted to you. I have been too busy the last couple of days to notice a package sitting there.
Let the Games Begin!
I can now strut around the SCIAC schedule bearing a reminder of what is in store for the eventual winner.  ;D

It would be surprising to me if the Chargers would enter the regular season without a  back-up QB who had at least a few years experience in the NFL.

I think this is great news for Brett!!  Doesn't mean they aren't going to go fishing for a veteran but, hey, one hurdle at a time!

I was surprised to see they cut Feeley as well. They have to sign somebody....Feeley must have broken up with Heather Mitts, I guess. I cannot see any way they would get rid of him if that meant she would no longer be around.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Perhaps, but I think if nothing else, it seems to be a safe bet that they will keep on at least their practice squad if not the #3/emergency QB.

Schottenheimer seems pretty confident in his choices most times--even if he's dead wrong, he'll go with it.

Anyway, congrats to Elliot on surviving the first round of cuts. I bet when he didn't get any playing time any of those preseason games he must have had a lump in his throat the size of a bowling ball.

Interesting things happening in San Diego.  ???

Letting Feeley go was a big surprise to me!   :o

I'm not sure what to make of this....As of 11:38 am ET  8/29/06 reported by Sportingnews.com,  the San Diego player information and roster has 63 players listed. Two Qb's River's and Whitehurst. No #5 as we know him, now #4 in a Chargers uniform is not on the posted list as of right now.

As it's been stated, they need 4 Qb's going into the season, but do they  keep 2 rookies, and have a starter with only 2 years ( Is that right?) in the NFL?
If the Chargers are looking for a veteran, it was good news George got picked up by Oakland.
It's going to be very Interesting to see how all this pans out.

Good Luck Brett!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

dawgs go deep

My bet is that they like him and think he has some potential and want to keep him on the practice squad and see how he develops.

I woudn't read too much into the sportingnews depth charts right now.  Afterall, the Chargers have not updated their official depth chart on their site yet!  Pretty cool to run a google search on Brett now and see his name mentioned many recent news articles...though most of them are pointing out how the Chargers have no experience at QB now....my favorite stat was from some article....the chargers have 3 QBs who have, between them, no NFL starts and one TD.  Fun times though...I'll be glued to the net to see what happens for Bret the rest of this week....maybe he'll see some play time? ???

Actually, it isn't good to believe anyone's depth chart today........between now and  Saturday, there are going to be approximately 700 guys who are in camp now who are going to be cut.   You can bet on some veteran QB's being cut loose.

Frank Uible makes the great point.....it seems unlikely that the Chargers will go into the season with three qb's without an NFL start between them.   There has to be more to the plan than just to cut Feeley and keep two rookies....it just reeks of a situation where they have their eye on one or two guys they think are going to get cut that would give them more than what Feeley was going to give them.

The question remains whether Brett has shown enough for the Chargers to believe he will develop into an NFL quarterback.  In any case, it looks likely that Brett will see some action Friday night against the 49ers....now that it is established who #1 and #2 is, why would you risk injury to either of them with extended second half playing time?

Pat Coleman

More important than the Jeff George signing is the Kerry Collins signing (with the Titans).

Unfortunately, I have to think the Chargers will sign a veteran backup. You can't go into the season with three guys who have started the same number of NFL games as I have.
