Hey,

Just noticed that LBC expressed concern with my mention of UWW and the possiblity that I (and others) might be looking ahead too much.  I want to assure him and others that I was only trying to drum up some discussion on football that happened yesterday.  Obviously the Cats (and their fans) need to focus on the game at hand, week by week, etc.  On that note, was anybody at the WO-WU game yesterday?  Any insight on what kind of team WO is besides "cheap shotters"?
Go Cats!

Here's all I could find on practice squads (Wikipedia)---NFL.com has rule book but nothing about rosters that I could find.

"Each NFL team can keep up to eight members to their "practice squad" in addition to their 53 man main roster. They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than two seasons. Practice squad players practice alongside with main roster players during the week, however they are not allowed to play in actual games. They are paid considerably less that active aquad players (roughly $500 per week or $8,000 per season, in compared to the NFL Rookie minimum salary of $225,000). They are also ineligible for many fringe benefits such as service time, pensions etc. They hope to be promoted to the active roster either by the team they are assigned to or another team who happens to be scouting them. They maintain free agent status in that they can sign with any team they wish, even if they are on another team's practice squad, without compensation to the original team. Many are former college players living in the surrounding city area, and the vast majority of them are forced to take other jobs to help support themselves during the season and off-season."---From Wikipedia----According to a site I found the practice squad salary is actually $4000/week not 500 so perhaps the Wikipedia guys messed up?
Go Cats!

Are we going to get some news on how our guys are working out...who's likely to start Saturday....???

Congrats to Brett for making the Practice Squad -- If the $4,000 per week is correct -- that's not bad with that Linfield Sheepskin!

Congrats also to Topcat 1 for "breaking the news"!  Once your term runs out as City Councilor you obviously will have a spot in the Breaking News department at Fox News!

GO CATS --- ONE GAME AT A TIME AGAIN!!![/color]

$500 a week?? I hope that's not true. Good luck trying to rent even a studio apt in San Diego for that.

According to http://www.combines.com/leagues/nfl.asp, the weekly salary is $4000 for members of the practice squad. I imagine that's not a yealry salary, probably only as long as the season lasts?

Edit -

Oops. Found a more definite answer. According to the NY Times, "Even a spot on the practice squad is worth $4,700 a week, or $79,900 for the full season. " That's from an article as of 4 days ago.

I think who ever made that entry on Wikipedia about being paid $500-$8,000 was actually referring to what some current Division One players receive. Hey, just joking! :D

Congrats to Brett. Only 6 more days!
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

Hi everyone...it's Nirvana Time. Hope everyone has had a great off season. I know, like most people, I've been chomping at the bit for the season to start. I did have the great fun to watch 3 live games over the weekend including the 'cats scrimage. Saw Wildcat11 moving his digs to his new house on my jogging trail and saw Haze at the Willamette/WOU game.  BTW....I love Willamette's new white pants! Makes them look really fast and old school. Unfortunately they have the same little design detail on the sides of the pants that WOU has. So, not as unique as you would think. And the terrible little secret about Willamette is that they are way out of sink with their offense. Almost embarrasing....Their qb is RAW. I did like the big Somoen guy on the D-Line with his big fro sticking out the back of his helmet. What would happen if somebody like pulled his hair out when they were under the pile?

On another note....Linfield will be challenged by WOU. They seemed to me to be more skilled over all and I believe their QB and skill people are formidable. Plus their D is pretty quick. It will be very interesting to see how Linfield rises to the challenge under new coach Smith.

Cheers....my computer is in repair so I had to go to the library for this but I will be looking forward to a great year on d3football.com!.....Bluenote, I love you all!...including Pat.

D O.C.

Well, well, look who crawled out of the woodwork.
I'll rephrase the oft asked question in your absence, Bluenote, are you going to be wailing at the home games?

'Cats trapped in the smog...anyone want to meet me at the Sept. 9th Whitworth @ Redlands game?

mkwing

I haven't seen NWC football since '04, but I did see WOU play Willamette that year, and I was at the game last night. Is it me, or has WOU really toned down the cheap stuff since Arne Ferguson has taken over?

mkwing,
Welcome to the board.

mkwing...if last year was any indication...no.  Maybe it will take him a couple of years to cycle out the knuckleheads...

Glad to see the research being done on things like the salary of a practice roster player.....sounds like Brett ought to have enough money to pay the rent, even at San Diego real estate prices... :D

All this talk about ejections and WOU brings up a trivia question for y'all.....when was the last time a Linfield player was ejected from a game?    Just to test the memories of old timers like Tuxguy, Bluenote, Topcat and others.....and please, just give the year and not the player.

coco

That's great news about Elliott.

Mwking,
The talk is that WOU is trying to clean up their act, but we'll see this weekend how  true that is.

Bluenote, welcome home, finally.
