Wildcat'64

WC 11,

Thanks for your insightful comments.....I think we all need to take a deep breath and then reflect on the overall long term 50 year success of the Wildcat program...one game does not make a season and we truly have been spoiled with 40 + point victories over the past couple of years.

Next Saturday brings a new opportunity to the Cats as will many more Saturday's.....the strength of the Wildcat program was not born in one Saturday nor will it disappear in one Saturday!

Like I said before the only thing more disappointing than last night is reading posts like yours.

Oh please. That was an embarassing game, I called it like it was. I said it before, calling a stinker a rose doesn't make it any better.

And if he, or the rest of the team, can't handle criticism, then perhaps he should reconsider that starting role. And I bet they're going to be hearing some pretty tough words--probably far tougher--from the coaches than some annonymous fan on the web.

Great teams and great programs will learn from mistakes and grow from them. They become stronger. I believe this will happen to the Cats. What's done is done.

My sentiments exactly.

UMHB was #6 in d3football.com poll going into last week's games, LINFIELD #7, HSU #10.
The Cowboys had played and won, your game had just ended (in a string of elation then deflation, albeit), and LINFIELD had yet to play a team they've handled recently.
In my constantly prodding brain I backhandedly aimed at the HSU crowd that I would like to see them ranked above US so we could 'upset' them.
And today's rankings are out...
HSU #7
LINFIELD #11 (OH! You DO like us. You really, really like us!)
UMHB#14
(The string of elation then deflation? I went through it at a UWW-LINFIELD game last year. I know the feeling.)

The difference between the coaches and some annonymous fan on the web is that the coaches will have something constructive to say and he's going to improve because of it.  I can guarentee you that they aren't dangling his starting spot and telling him to be rah-rah on the sidelines.  He'll lead how he leads; not everybody responds to guys screaming and hollering on the sidelines.  And he's not stupid, he knows if he doesn't produce he won't play, so aside from being counterproductive, they'd be wasting their breath.

The drivel that you're spewing isn't really accomplishing anything but piling onto a group that without a doubt feels bad enough without their "fans" calling them heartless and telling them of their impending doom!

By the way, the crowd should feel free to get the DEFENSE chant started.  The players feed off of the crowd not the other way around.  They are smart enough to know when the Cats need a big stop.  Granted the players need to give us something to cheer about but at 28-14, that's hardly an insurmountable lead, surely not enough to be dead in the stands.  Then again...this is the same group that is full throat when we've got a short fourth and inches on offense, so maybe I'm giving them too much credit...

I'm the first one to be demanding and expect a lot, but they've played one game.  Nobody's calling it a rose but they aren't calling them heartless losers either.  One game doesn't make them destined to be on "The Ocho."

Meant to come on and crow a little about the Pirates' solid win at Redlands in week 1 (shows what those Minnesota boys really know about west coast football in their pick-em thread), but is sure has been interesting reading the last 24 hours worth of posts by the Linfield fans.

I am in general agreement with WC11.  It's a first game.  Against a DII school, which are notorious for rising and falling in ability from year to year.  It could be that WOU is just in a big upswing this year.  Linfield will get a much better read about where it stands after next Saturday, facing a good DIII team.  Slow down.

But as I said on the SCIAC board, I do like Whitworth's chances of being 2-0 vs. West Region after next week's game against La Verne.  Sounds like their loss to UPS wasn't as close as the score indicates.

Rats should be tough this year.  Looking forward to our matchup.  I think I'll finally get to see your QB in person this year...

I was away from the computer for most of the weekend.  +K to 11 for being a voice of reason.  I was getting regular phone updates throughout the game.  Sounded like a rough night but I echo the thoughts of many others in saying that this is no place to be calling out people by name.  Linfield football is too classy for that garbage.

Yesterday's game is over. It will go down as one of those learning experiences and character builders. We've got the best coaches and players in the NWC, and we know that they'll fix what needs to be fixed this week.
Then they'll go down to Abilene and kick some Texas a$$! Yee haw!

what the hell? just saw the score. i never liked western oregon (what ever they call themselves these days). this has probably made their decade. they will show this film for recruiting till the tape/cd/dvd wears out. we need to take care of the d3 games and focus.

i hope that the cats realize that they need to earn it, nothing is free anymore!!!!!

Before I even post, I know on this board, my Karma is going to take a hit.

Downtown 48,

How about for you tag line, Instead of focusing up on teams that you beat, how about you refocus and say, "Western Oregon, where Linfield goes to lose 100% of the time".

I further remember preseason conversations about who should be the preseason all-american QB, and many Linfield posters were clouting your unproven QB as an AA...

However, after reading the posts on this board over the weekend, one thing that absolutely makes me sick is the fact that the majority of Linfield posters are fair weathered friends.  Anyone can jump on a band wagon, and promote your team when things are going well, but at the first sign of adversity, you bash a player presonally.  That is called fortitude.  Now I have been brutal to my Profs when they have lost, but have never singled out a player.  Football is a team game, and although it is easy to point the finger, in your case at your QB, but I'm sure he is not the ONLY reason you lost.  There are 21 other starters and coaches that have to take some of the responsibility.  I just think that it shows no class what-so-ever, when you personally attack a player, that obivously didn't want to make those mistakes.  In D3, none of our athletes are paid, Unlike the Okalhoma QB, and these kids go out each and every Saturday and play their hearts out for the love of the game.  That's what makes D3 football what it is.  I feel that a lot of the Linfield posters forgot about that.

Linfield, by the way... good luck this week... you guys could start out 0-2!

Criticizing someone is not being a fair-weather fan. Being a "fan" doesn't mean you lose your sense of reason, or at least it shouldn't. (If people want to follow someone blindly, I'm sure there's a bagwan out there needing new followers with big bank rolls.) But to think that criticising them means someone has fallen off the bandwagon or is somehow being "fair weathered" is complete nonsense.

As far as bashing a player personally, unfortunately, the QB is a singular position. That's why they get the big bucks in the pros, because the loss or win usually comes down on their shoulders. But you can't say, "some player out there was consistently overthrowing the ball" and not have everyone know exactly who you meant.

One game does not a season make. That was an ugly game and I know the coaches and kids will take lessons from it because I really doubt anyone on that team wants a repeat. Personally, I would much rather have it the first game than the last. Let's get all our ugliness out of the system.

Prof...

Nice attempt to regain some face after the BEATING you took a couple of years ago.  You've got a long way to go before you should be trolling in here...we've got "scoreboard" on you on so many different levels it's not even funny.  How 'bout 52-0 and O-fer the Stagg Bowl for starters?  Beat it...come and troll when you've actually won something.  :-*

By the way your genious tag line wouldn't quite work considering Linfield has won like 13 of the last 15 meeting and probably has a .800 winning % against Western.  Little better than you guys.  Why don't you try this one on for size... "Salem, VA...where Rowan comes to die 100% of the time."

Tried to find some info on PLU, but it's all Linfield. Are there any PLU posters? What are your reactions after your loss?

I saw, unfortunately, the 41-9 Johnnie win over UWRF last Saturday. The Falcons, with the same no. of returning starters (16) as PLU, did not look good at all. They have dropped the option offense (wishbone) for a zone offense with our best back (Anderson) behind qb. It's supposed to allow our qb, who rushed for over 900 yds. last year, more passing options. But Saturday, he threw it only 14 times, completed fewer than half, and was not effective as a  passer. He ran for 18 yds. Anderson got around 110, but the entire offensive output was less than 200 yds. In the wishbone we rarely were held to less than 200 yds rushing. At the moment, the switch does not look good. There was no sophistication in the offense.

The only defense for the performance, if it is one, is that SJU is a ranked team, we're picked to finish one spot above last, we played in front of  8600 fans in Collegeville, and it was our first game vs. their second.

Though RF  won last year's game vs PLU 45-14,  or something like that, I'm not optimistic about this Saturday's game.
