I know the Lutes have a new D co-ordinator. But why go to the 4-2. I always thought your 3-4 gave people enough fits.

702 posts and I finally have karma

Good question Swede. I'm not close enough to the situation to know the reasoning, but I was a fan of Craig McCord's 3-4 as well. Perhaps this new D.C. has primarily run a 4-2 throughout his career, or that's what S.Westy always planned on running? Maybe they felt it was a better fit for the current personnel? I'm sure they had plenty of solid reasons. Like I said, they had larger issues then the scheme on Sat. They missed a lot of tackles.

For what it's worth - the new coordinator is a former Lute (from the mid-80's) so I'm fairly sure the new scheme is not an intentional act of "antiFrostyism"  ;)

D O.C.

CONGATULATIONS! to.................................... for being the first player from the defending national championship team to be elected to Team of the Week.

I know, I know "Schools nominate them, we pick them and post them."

At least the defending national champions managed to get a couple of NWC POYs  :)

Honorable Mention: Tyler Gill (Willamette, So., DB).

Special Teams Player of the Week: John Dailey (Linfield, Sr., K, Portland, Ore.-Jesuit) averaged 59.1 yards on seven kickoffs, including four touchbacks.
Honorable Mention: No other nominee.

Dailey is a definate weapon on kickoffs. The unreturnables were way out of the endzone.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

River.....

I have to say congrats to you and your Bearcats.  I went to their game at WOU and was amazed at how they looked....but they sure figured out a way to get a comeback win at UPS, much to their credit.

As for UPS, I guess the team motto remains, "prove it".   Crowing about the two wins over the Claremont colleges doesn't mean much....

The Lutes were NAIA national champions in'87 as well as runnerups in'83 and '85

I'm not sure about the 80's, swede, but I do know that PLU switched to the 3-4 from the 4-3 for the 1998 season. The Lutes had run the 4-3 since at least the early 90's, perhaps earlier, under then-D. C. Paul Hoseth.

Thanks for correcting me on the D scheme up there in Luteland. I modified my post and just stated the facts as I know it. Thanks for setting me straight.

Pennstlbu,

Where have you been bro?  Does a bearcat have your tongue?    ;)

I know that UPS was really looking at this year to be "the year" to break the cycle but it looks like old habits die hard with the playoff hopes now being dead for the loggers.

My biggest question is when Rory Lee (btw, he's been a big plus on my fan football team) coughed up that fumble that cost UPS the game.....did the UPS public announcer scream into the mic "THAT ANOTHER UPS FUMBLE!"

I will say that the crowd numbers seem to be much improved at UPS and the loggers are a MUCH better team from 3 years ago.  Logger fever...Catch it!!!!

Pat,

Thanks for posting the link to the Coach Speckman article in the Daily Dose. It's nice to be reminded of how much he has accomplished despite being faced with a lot of adversity. An NAIA honorable mention All American linebacker back in the day, with no hands. Incredible.
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

Gig Harbor Cat

After  reading the Rats game preview they need to just stay home and PHONE IT IN.  Cats are all over the rats this year.
It may be a test for the Cats, but they score high, as always.

Cats  45

Rats  13

I am not nealry as worried for this game as I thought I might be. Clark and the rat offense has not showwn the kind of punch (this year) that warrants a nervous stomach. 14 pts vs eou? The mounties are good, but not that good.

Can I have my posts restored?

Good game preview by the rats sid. I guess whit had a lot of chances at eou but could not capitalize.
