The Oregonian ran a story on small college football in the PacNW today.  The story leads with Pacific still trying to get football back in place and the impact of WWU dropping football.

Small College Football tries to call an audible

-Athletic director Ken Schumann said the plan could be put into effect as soon as the fall of 2010 if the school raises $1.5 million to cover initial operating costs and gets the go-ahead from the administration and the board of trustees.

"We have to make a decision one way or another in the next several months to a year," said Schumann, who believes adding football actually would benefit Pacific economically.

It would be great if they decide to bring it back.  The big item I saw in the article was that it said that 47 schools have added football in NAIA, D2, or D3 since 2000.  Number seems high but shows that it can be done.  Another telling comment was the fact that the few schools in the NorthWest have become so fragmented. 2-NAIA, 2-D2 , 6-d3, 2-1AA.  What league do the two canadian teams play in now?  When I played we had Simon Fraser, Pacific, OIT, and WWU on our schedule.  Plus Central, of course we were all NAIA at that time although the state schools were NAIA d1 and we were NAIA d2.

good luck to the Boxers

Another telling comment was the fact that Pacific has 64% women to LINFIELD'S 55%. Hmmmm, tough decision where to go for all those high school seniors.
IF Pacific brings back football, I mean.

Raising a new stream of income for operating or endowment . . . a new 1.5 million right now . . . very big task in light of the economy and all of the other stresses hitting institutions right now with the shrinkage of wealth in endowments and the reduction in giving across the board . . . I wish Pacific luck, but the timing could not be worse . . .

only 235 days until the the Linfield-Oxy matchup . . . plenty of time for you guys to research these new terms:

"Sun"
"Warm"

tick, tick, tick  8) ;)

Tooth,

I'm not worried about the heat as it does get hot once or twice in Oregon during the summer (believe it or not).  However, I am concerned about the Linfield players having to breathe in that stuff in the LA area you guys call "air".

11-we don't breath it, we cut it with a knife and fork and chew on it.  Make sure none of the Cat's wear goggles or glasses because they'll be caked with "air" after a few minutes!

snoop dawg

I thought wc11 would be all over RFB  about Redlands not answering the phone when this story broke.   It is a fun read when you guys go at it.

Does principia's shutdown of football affect any NWC (or SCIAC) schedules?  I can't seem to find much on 2009 schedules but I know L&C and other played Principia last year....

bluenote

I haven't seen L & C's schedule but I would have assumed that they would be playing a home and home vs. Prinicipia, that's the polite thing to do.

Whoops....I guess that would be a bad assumption since Linfield goes to Oxy next season......but does Oxy come back up to Linfield the next year giving us a 10 game season......? I will leave the answer to the more knowing insiders.  ;)

....back to American Idol!

Let's live in the current/future moment . . . otherwise, what will we have to chirp about in January 2010??

I'm bummed out....(509)Rat is now dust in the wind.  That sucks.  Yeah we had a few dust ups but the guy knew the NWC very well and offered some great thoughts.

Drop me a line (509) and let me know what's up: catdomealumni@yahoo.com

Oh boy...I've rubbed off on WC11.  Please explain 'dust in the wind.'  Did he move to Kansas? Did he draw a sentence for the d_____e comment?
