I would like to hear his take on the 2004 team vs 2005. I thought we had a good chance to repeat in 2005 but were stopped....could we get his take on why?

Isn't this one obvious? Complete lack of a running threat and fewer gamers on defense. I don't know if Brett would be that blunt and critical of his former 'mates. Certainly can't fault the high-octane passing game...

Hey Mudball,

Thanks for the response.  I'll track down the Butcher one day and quiz him about his time at Linfield.  I should have been more clear in my previous post and say if there are any current players the Linfield masses would like to hear from please let me know.

I am working on a few former 'Cats for Red and Purple interviews and have a few ideas for video segments with some former players.  Stay tuned.....

D-Train,

FACT

I still hang my head every time I think about that 3 and out while backed up against our goal line vs UWW.

Wow! PLU to play a 10 game, all D3 schedule in 2009:

http://www.plu.edu/athletics/football/schedule.html

Looks like that's the case for Whitworth as well:

Interesting additions by both teams...

Superfoot Wallace

Hardin Simmons on Whitworth's schedule is a known commodity around the NWC per the Linfield boys.

Wesley on PLU's schedule will be a tough test.  Very good team that had a rough go of it between weather cancelling a good matchup with Christopher Newport to begin the season and a then perceived or real upset the following week at the hands of Delaware Valley.  The lopsided score against Mary Hardin-Baylor in the playoffs shouldn't fool anybody as they are the team that took down Hardin-Simmons twice last year.

Assuming Coach Scott Westerling is Frosty's son.  Same offensive sets that produced the national title?  Remember it as being very pass happy.   A little quarterback run game could help against this squad.

I'd say the A.D.s in NWC schools had some discussion about what Way Out West means.
Good for them!

Is the deal between PLU and Wesley a home and home? That's a great opportunity for the kids to see another side of the country. Good job by both schools.

I sure wish Linfield could get a tenth D3 game!!

WC11,
This isn't about the present team, but it would be interesting to read about how being a Wildcat prepared the guys who have gone on to play football after leaving Linfield.

Yes, Scott is Frosty's son and he was the O.Coordinator during the '99 championship season.

His name is Scott?  I thought everyone just calls him "Frosty's son".

Ah, quit with that!
Blah, blah, blah Glory Days.
Whitworth and Willamette have managed to squeak out 1st place the last couple of years.
You don't hear them going on and on and on about their National Championship seasons, do you?

If they play Oxy twice, they can have a home and home with the Tigers, as well as a tenth game. ;)

It's true. Feeling very morose today.  I fell off the wagon. My resolution to be more simplistic was temporarily set aside.

Quoteduring the '99 championship season.

PLU won the Stagg Bowl that year.

QuoteAh, quit with that!
Blah, blah, blah Glory Days.

PLU does not mention their trophy in an arrogant way.

(Trying to kid with d-train)

Recently people at Whitworth and Willamette accuse LINFIELD of living in the glory days.
Glory Days capitalized because of the Bruce Springsteen song played at halftime at this year's Super Bowl.

QuoteWhitworth and Willamette have managed to squeak out 1st place the last couple of years.

Whitworth and Willamette fans (RFB, too) are factual in their gleeful reminder of the recent 6-3 LINFIELD seasons.
While it's NOT factual Willamette squeaked out anything in 2008, the CATS had Whitworth where they always have them in 2006 and let it get away; 2007 was a game Whitworth took when the opportunities were given them.

A back-handed, facetious reference to the fact that neither of those institutions has a National Championship as PLU and LINFIELD do.
