They are down a coach now, too, one of their better ones.

Good question Bluenote....Mongolia is not known for their culinary acumen....However, they are trying to make a belated claim to the so called "Mongolian Barbecue" franchises that have sprung up over the US....The claim is that Ghenghis cooked his meat this style....If he did it is certain that no veggies were involved as one of Mongolia's slogans is "Meat for men and grass for animals"  In fact getting good veggies in this town is a very expensive proposition...most the good stuff is shipped from China....the Koreans have built some hot houses...but fresh fruits and vegetables that don't taste like Chinese dirt is hard to come by unless you want to pay five dollars for three oranges.

If you are into strange tasting milk products, Mongolia is the place for you....They all but invented dehydrated milk solids for the boys who ride the range and it needs no frig, keeps over the winter and is hard as rock....The Mongols love it...even though it has the oder of vomit...In fact this oder is so prevalent in Mongolia that it permeates the bank notes....that are passed in the Mongolian "outback."  They have this one particular dried milk food stuff that I call "milk jerky"....it grumbles in your mouth and has this tangy vomit flavor.....mmmmm Good!

They do go in for deep fat fried meat with floured covering....called Horshuur...they have a couple of other dishes using just flour and meat...they have yet to discover spices in the average Mongol kitchen.....The truth is...if you ate only Mongolian cuisine you would probably lose weight due to lack of appetite....once the Mongols figure this out they will probably sell this idea as part of their tourism package.  I know it's hard to believe that Mongolia will soon be the weight loss capitol of the world....Just remeber you heard it here first:)

So why have I gained 30+ pounds since coming here.....Hmmmmm?  Well they do have a few foreign entreprenuers who have been steadily serving the expat community over the years...I have discovered that North Indian (the muslim part) is really excellent stuff if you like spicey stuff...not hot, but spicey...If you can find one of those in your area I would check it out.  Also, the prices are right at these restaurants....I can get a really good steak for about 5-6 USD....I have noticed a new restaurant sign put up just recently...."Kenny Rodgers Roasters"  That sounds like a real US franchise....which would be the first....if anybody knows anything about that...I'd like to hear about it
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

That was a great off-season lesson.
If I might inquire....
The "milk"?  From what living beast doth it emanate?

Horshuur.? Doth it rhyme with manure?

Or, 'for sure'?

Coaching any youth football teams that play with a head instead of a ball, or just the inflatable Yak bladder?

willamette grabs a ton of kids from california. Hardly snapping up valley talent from right under our noses. I felt better about the season when I read cole franklins blog on 11's fantastic site. He played through some incredible pain/injuries this year. The plu game was the one game where he finally felt 90%- look what happened.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

criswyly......I'm sure everybody would love to try out some of those delicacies at the next tailgate you can attend at the CatDome.....can't wait to try out some of those powdered milk blocks!

Except for Grant Piros (Newberg), who scored a touchdown off the blocked punt in McMinnville this year. :)

Here are Willamette's actual numbers from the 2008 season:
California: 42
Oregon: 26
Washington: 13
Idaho: 5
Hawaii: 4
Utah: 2
Arizona: 1
Illinois: 1

Here is some interesting reading. This formation is new to me. It'll give us something to talk about for a little while.

B-Press,

Could you compile a list of Wildcats from Salem that have helped Speckman to his 3-8 overall record vs Linfield?

You know, my records don't go back that far, but I'd be happy to compile a list of Oregon Bearcats that have helped Coach Smith lose two straight to Willamette. ;)

Coach Smith has 8 more chances to scratch out 2 wins to match Speck's current 3-8 record vs Linfield. I like his chances.

My goodness....they like their food fresh.....or should I say "alive" !!! :o

Bluenote - Living where I do (Korea) where we have a lot of strange things to eat, I can tell you honestly that sometimes the sickest looking and smelling food - a lot like those in the video, are many times the best tasting. I remember the first time eating fresh, chopped up squid at a professional baseball game here.  I forgot to put on the special sauce that stuns it enough to allow swallowing...the darn thing stuck to my tongue and throat and I had quite a time trying to get it down. It provided comic relief to the fans around me. Quick fried silkworms (they're still a little fuzzy) are another of my favorite snack foods.  And healthy, too!!

Bobo...that's disgusting...eating things that stick to your tongue...that sounds like something that is right along the food chain of a banana slug:)  Korea is the only place where I was served something in my bowl that looked like a crawfish with big ole beady eyes looking up at me.  Ever been to Cheju?

Mongols love any kind of milk product be it, cow, goat, sheep or horse...They call it "White Food".....of course the fermented mares milk is world famous....it taste like something between a cross of cream of mushroom soup and apple juice.

I will have to give some thought to bringing some "White Food" to the next tailgate party I show up at.   Enough fermented drink and it'll taste just fine...I'm sure.

Been to Jeju (the new way to spell Cheju in English - closer to the Korean pronunciation) many times. Trekking up Halla-san, Korea's only volcano (extinct) and maker of Jeju, is absolutely beautiful in the spring or fall. It's also home to some of the nastiest seafood delicacies. It's an acquired taste, which I didn't always have.  Eating some of the stuff I do always puts my parents in shock when they come to visit. Come to think of it, at their age, I shouldn't be doing stuff like that!! But as Mrs. BoBo always says, good - for - health!!
