Here's wishing you a "haka haka" burning love  Go Oak 13!!

I cringe when I see some of the guys we're losing, but when you look at all the guys we've got coming back, heck, we'll be fine. There are some spots to fill, but we've got a good nucleus.

WC11, as far as you know, will everyone be returning who should be returning?

Coco,

As far as I know...yes.  I feel great about the defense this year.  Yeah, losing Summers is tough but the 3 senior LBs will be a great anchor for that side of the ball.  Offense, I'm looking forward to seeing what develops at QB between the Boehme/Franklin combo.  Both of those guys are too good to keep one on the sideline but you have to love to have options like those two!  We'll see what develops during the spring.

I believe that the depth of the current Frosh/Soph class is going to start making their mark next season in multiple areas of the program.  I'm excited to see what happens...

Maybe Occidental will pick up LINFIELD for 6 years, or so.

Ugh.  Bad news all around.  I really hope this doesn't provide ammo for opponents to Pacific's bid to restart their program.

(BTW, thanks for continuing to give us updates on Pacific, 11.  They're much appreciated.)

No worries B-Press.  As you can tell I'm fascinated in the resistance that the football movement has been running against in Forest Grove.  It's either that people think the campus will be flooded by giant blockheads who will run rampant on campus or it seems other athletes are worried that a return by football will make their sport less significant (I've been to a few Pacific basketball games in the past and it doesn't seem like these other sports are a significant part of the Pacific culture now).

In regards to CC dropping football...."ugh" is correct.  I'm not worried about the impact to Pacific's movement but I'm more worried about our Portland neighbor up on the hill.  This is the SECOND team that was on their 2009 schedule that has killed their program and Colorado College was slotted to be L&C's 2009 homecoming game.  I'm very concerned that this will be just more ammo for people that would love to see football go away at L&C.  I really believe this is a vital year for L&C and not in regards to wins and losses but being competitive on the field.  If they can show more growth then I'll have some real confidence that they will be able to make it in the long run but if they are the same old L&C then I will be very worried that administration could give up and just go the easy route.

The problem with this is that I felt the teams in the conference were young AND talented last season and will be stronger across the board this year.  I'm not sure what that will result in for the Pios in 2009.

There should be some openings in SCAC schedules that L&C may be able to fill.

11, you hit the nail on the head regarding concerns about L&C's football program.  Frankly I'm holding my breath that they make it to this fall.

Quotepeople think the campus will be flooded by giant blockheads who will run rampant

You are pretty close there too.  Pacific dropped its program soon after my time at Whitworth and I understand that it was due more to off-the-field issues than what was happening on the field.  I wouldn't be surprised if there is residual institutional memory of that, despite the new athletic administration proving that the department is in a far different place.

QuoteThe loss of Colorado College leaves the SCAC with eight football-playing schools, and eight schools with a late open date.

OK! Let's see if it can help the 'CATS.

L & C could fill the slot with our JV club.  Probably would be a decent game for both

'Cats pick up a kid that first signed with WWU.

Wenatchee football players' plan evaporates

Of course the writer thinks Linfield's mascot is the "Pirates" but that's fine...looks like a solid kid.  Financial Aid is coming out now so the 'Cats should put together a list of kids who have paid their deposits sometime next month.  It's been a very good response this year so far and I think the recruit list will be very strong when released.

bluenote

That would be great to see Joe come to Linfield to play football and also play music.  Portland has a very good music scene and Linfield obviously has the football scene! Fantastic combo!

From the Save WWU football folks:

We've just learned that Menlo College is looking for DII affiliation as early as 2010-11. Itt appears they are reaching out specifically to the GNAC, but their inquiries have been more general in nature. Menlo is currently a DIII/NAIA dual affiliate; they are going to compete at the NAIA only level until the possibility exists for them to move into DII. They stated that in order to leave their current DIII football conference that they would need to secure scheduling partners starting in 2010.
