Is this the board for Puget Sound?

Yes, Puget Sound is a NWC member so you have the right board however we don't have any active Loggers posters on here.  ;)

cool...DePauw University (SCAC) is looking for a 10th game by virtue of Colorado College's 11th hour decision to drop football...ideally the Tigers are looking for a September 5 date and someone had suggested Puget Sound as a possibility...was searching for anyone who might know anything...thanks...

Wouldn't that be something that your athletic director or coach would be figuring out?  ::)

SCIAC and NWC recruiting news, from the Merced Sun-Star:

QuoteQuarterbacks with game, brains

Both of Kyle Davey's parents were teachers.

The Buhach Colony senior learned the importance of education at an early age.
...

Parents don't lie. Davey's good grades have opened up an opportunity for him to play football at Willamette University in Oregon for former Merced football coach Mark Speckman.

"It's always been my dream to play college football," said Davey, who played quarterback at BC. "Of course my dream was to play at USC or Cal, but as you get older you realize there are so many players who don't move on.

"Willamette is a Division III school and it's really competitive. I'm excited as ever to go there."

Davey isn't the only area quarterback moving on.

Hitting the books has also paid off for Stone Ridge Christian senior Matt Borges.

The SRC quarterback will be playing at Occidental College in Los Angeles next year.

Borges will have the bulk of his tuition paid for with academic merit scholarships he has earned with the help of his 4.25 grade point average.

"At Occidental, academics are first and athletics are second and I find myself fitting that mold," Borges said.

Borges is the first Stone Ridge Christian athlete to go on to play at a four-year university out of high school. He was a three-sport star at SRC.
...

Borges is torn between majoring in business or engineering.

Either way, he feels attending Occidental puts him in an ideal spot for his career.

"One of the big draws to Occidental is it's in Los Angeles," Borges said. "There will be a lot of internship opportunities while I'm there."

While Borges is blazing a trail from Stone Ridge Christian, Davey is following the lead of former BC players Ronnie Carter and Chris Kelly.

Both Carter and Kelly earned financial aid packages based on their academics to play football at Willamette and Lewis & Clark College, respectively.

Davey earned his financial aid with a 3.9 GPA and high SAT scores.

"Willamette is a tough school to get into," Davey said. "It's a great academic school and they're competitive in athletics.

"I have the best of both worlds."

What kind of a question is that? Of couse it is. Just tryng to see if anyone has any insights elsewhere...guess not. Nice response...

Sorry Bearcatpress....the bandwidth wouldn't allow a historical scoreboard perspective of  images for the preceding decades.
For sure, only show recruits the "you're only as good as your last picture" results. Revisionism works fine until discovered.  ;)

BP,

Fair enough.  I guess I can stomach Willamette having one exceptional season every ten years.

Willamette finally released their schedule last week.  Ten games for the third straight year.

9/5     @ Concordia-Morehead
9/12   vs. Cal Lutheran
9/19   @ Southern Oregon
9/26   vs. La Verne
10/3   vs. Whitworth
10/10 @ Lewis & Clark
10/17 vs. Pacific Lutheran
10/24 vs. Linfield
10/31 BYE
11/7   @ Puget Sound
11/14 @ Menlo

As a personal aside, it's been a very exciting couple of weeks for me.  I found out last week that I won the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association award for Best Feature Story for my article on retiring basketball coach Gordie James.  I've also been hired to take over as Sports Editor for the Collegian next year, and apparently my football coverage was a big part of that decision.  So thanks to all of the posters here for the insight and analysis that you provide.  It's been an invaluable resource for me, and will continue to be so next year - since I plan on handling the football beat personally.

-BP

I've been catching up on the news on this thread, so my belated Congrats BP--I'll be looking forward to some great inside information in the Collegian's coverage of Bearcat football this fall....
and not to try to stir things up or anything this early in the year,  ;)  but . . .

. . . statistically speaking, isn't it harder to have a winning season with ten games (60%) than with nine games (55.56%)...so that while the purple's long seasonal win streak is a highly commendable testament to the outstanding quality of its program, and of football in the NWC, the fact that "the streak" is based substantially on a nine game or shorter regular season has to be considered when comparing the streak to programs that are substantially based upon ten game regular seasons.  In other words, it's harder to  consistently win six games every year than five games.   :)   . . . and while I don't doubt that the purple wants to but is having difficulty finding teams that want to play it during the regular season, given the great importance that purple backers increasingly place upon the continuation of "the streak," isn't there an institutional bias, probably subconscious, on keeping things the way they now are, i.e., a nine-game season.   "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."   Not to mention that only the really tough teams would want to schedule the purple for that 10th game . . .

River,

Your line of thinking might carry more weight if Linfield was sqeaking out 5 win season after 5 win season but if you look back on the past 53 seasons Linfield has only had four 5 win seasons and the other remaining 49 seasons the 'Cats have won 6 games or more.
