Naw, it just means you have one fewer OOC game to schedule, Blue.  That way you can keep getting winning seasons by winning five games. ;) :)

(On another note, is that actually going to be their helmet design?)

No...it means Willamette will have one more Conference loss.  ;)

I like the design but have to admit I have no clue what it is suppose to be.  Can anyone enlighten me?

For those of you who have followed my West Region column and supported me over the years, I'd love to ask for your support for my latest endeavor--raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in the Man of the Year campaign.

You can read about the campaign at www.HelpAdamCureCancer.com  If you catch a flight right now you should be able to make it to the event at the Brewery!  If not, I'd love any donation you could make to the campaign!

Hey Adam,
I'm all in.  As a survivor you know I will always kick in for the kids.  I will have a check cut and out today.  As for the beer, you can just catch me on your next trip out to the Catdome.

I've always thought Pacific had one of the stranger athletic logos I've ever seen, particularly the older one.

The Boxer has always looked more like a dragon to me and even more so now.  Apparently that's with good reason.  As with a lot of Division III schools, there's an interesting story behind the boxer name.

There's also an alumni magazine on Pacific's site where one alum expresses disappointment with the school's new logo (same as the helmet insignia).  Now that I know what Boxer is, I think it's actually pretty well done.

Gonna have to disagree with a couple of comments regarding the possible new Pacific helmet logo. It just doesn't do anything for me, unless you're associated with Pacific, I don't think people will know what it is. Either put a whole boxer on the helmet, or a giant "P" and have the name Pacific on the front of the jersey, IMO

Didn't Pacific used to have their name on the helmet, much like the defunct Tigers program in California?

Congratulations Pacific...but it looks like PU's football program is already in big trouble as I couldn't help but notice that their new logo on the helmet looks like some dog begging for his dinner :o

In the meantime it is great to have the boxers back in the football line up so now we don't have to worry when the budget runs out at Menlo and they're forced to leave the conference.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

I am glad Pacific is back in the league as well.  If they can get the program up and running, it will only make the whole conference stronger.

Anyone know where they will play their games?  At the new on-campus facility?

Thanks, but I still don't see it.  But that doesn't really matter considering I'm not one of them.  From the sound of the previous posts it's a good deal for those of you who care.

Our games with Linfield and Williamette have been some of the most exciting games we've played.

Look at the logo as of the front were towards the top of the helmet, that is the head of the boxer/dragon.  It is slanted--I saw it right away as I live in a somewhat slanted world

There are a number of media story links on Pacifc's athletic blog that is run by their S.I.D.  http://boxerathletics.blogspot.com/2009/05/news-on-football-gets-out.html

Pine,

There are mixed signals but there are two choices on where the Boxers could play.  Their new Lincoln Park facility currently has a field turf soccer field/track with a smaller grandstand that is probably the choice for on-campus.

If they have to spend time getting Lincoln Park ready then they go down the road to Hillsboro Stadium (Community Field) which hosts a gaggle of football games for various high schools in the area.

Gee, Adam, nothing like asking us at the last minute, when it's too late to catch a flight. I bet a lot of us would have gone, just for the chance at cool stuff like the one free night of dog boarding in Minnesota.

I lost my mom and father-in-law to cancer, and this is a good thing you are doing.

Adam is a nice guy who has given the NWC some very good publicity. Let's do like GHC and support him in this worthwhile effort.

QuotePacific (Oregon) plans to bring football back

Pacific (Oregon) plans to reinstate football beginning in 2010, following university trustees' approval of the program.

The school, which currently sponsors 20 varsity sports programs, has been studying the addition of a football program for the past four years. It dropped the program in 1991, 99 years after the school's first football contest.

The 2010 start is contingent on raising necessary start-up expenses.

"Athletics is a key component for the continued growth of the university and, in particular, its undergraduate programs," said Pacific President Phil Creighton. "Our football program will aid our recruitment efforts significantly, helping Pacific to continue to grow into one of the finest health professions and liberal arts institutions in the West."

Planning for the program included discussions involving faculty, student and alumni groups.

"I am confident that the university will be rewarded with a football program that will attract top-quality student-athletes who will be successful in the classroom and on the field," said Ken Schumann, the school's director of athletics. "The program also will add a tremendous amount of spirit and excitement to campus life. I am grateful to the (Pacific Board of Trustees) in their confidence that we can build a competitive, successful Division III program."

Pacific will become the seventh of eight multisport members of the Northwest Conference to sponsor football as a varsity sport, joining Linfield, Lewis and Clark, Pacific Lutheran, Puget Sound, Willamette, and Whitworth. Menlo also competes in the league as a football-only member.
