The Red Hatters are all ladies over fifty and would be a formidable foe.  They also like to party.

Based on their age I would describe them as former cougars rather than former Wildcats, but I would encourage their support if I were a Linfield supporter.

Willamette alum Cal Lee received a write-up as one of "Hawaii's Sports Fabulous 50" in an article in the Honolulu Advertiser.  In the span of 20 years, he compiled a 241-32-5 record at St Louis High School, including 18 ILH league championships and 15 Prep Bowl (State championship) titles.  He and brother Ron, another Willamette alum, now coach for the Univ of Hawaii.  Brother Tommy, who was a head coach for the Bearcats, retired as head coach at Montana Western.

Dynasty had humble start

By Wes Nakama
Advertiser Staff Writer

The following is an excerpt from the article:

"That began a record streak of 55 consecutive victories that included four straight 13-0 seasons from 1986 through 1989. Along the way, Saint Louis defeated highly regarded Morse (San Diego), and in 1990 knocked off two Mainland powers in Springdale (Ark.) and Bakersfield (Calif.).

The Crusaders then opened the 1992 season with victories over California teams Mountain View and Clovis, and again finished 13-0. Their Hawai'i dominance and wins over top Mainland programs started to draw national attention, and at one point Saint Louis reached No. 2 in USA Today's Super 25 rankings."

Hey WC11, agree mostly with your takes on NWC uniforms, but I think Puget Sound has the worst. The Loggers should revert back to the green and yellow style of the early 1990s, when the helmet was adorned with a couple of axes. I remember asking someone at Puget Sound about the old logo, and was told it was removed because it was politically incorrect.

Good to hear Menlo may be trying something different, their togs looked too much like Penn State, the way Hardin Simmons looks too much like LSU.

Southern Oregon had a sharp uniform when Dusty McGorty(spelling?), played there, but the Raiders are tough to look at now.

Mount Union has a clean look, but a little boring, although better than Wisconsin-Whitewater. I hate the trendy, multiple designs on uniforms, Willamette has the same problem.

Steel,

Here is a pic of that SOU uni when Dusty was playing.  SOU had a killer logo with the red tail hawk but when the new coach came in he went to a boring old block "S".  Yuk.

I wonder what's the story with the huge raider patches on the shoulder of Mount's home blacks..  It's unique to say the least.

I know that uniwatchblog.com really ran SJU into the mud for their last names being on the front of the helmets but actually I think that is a pretty darn cool look.

In regards to UWW, I know they break out some different unis but this version of their home unis I think are pretty darn tight.

Wildcat 11,

Those patches are there so the opposition can get the name of the bus that just ran over them! ;D

I guess that means you don't know. I thought they were Stagg Bowl patches, or some team related reason. Otherwise, I would think the Mount Union jersey would look better without them.

Likable too. Like most Island Boys they've got a sense of humor...and then take your head off.
I went over to the U of H to watch a practice (gulp, Georgia) and I asked Calvin if LINFIELD running back Eddie Griffin, whom he played against, belonged in the LINFIELD  Hall of Fame.

Cal Lee
Willamette University, All-American Linebacker
" Eddie Griffin, sure. Through the hole and whoosh whoosh...gone."

While I liked my original answer better the jerseys with "Raiders" usually appear in the playoffs and not during the regular season. There are a variety of combinations used throughout the season. Purple and white. White and black, Purple and black. all purple, etc. The uniform usually doesn't mean much....the results are ususally the same.

Since 1991, 235-10-1 ;)

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, Griffin rushed for over 100 yards against the Rainbows(as they were called then), in the 15-13 Linfield upset win in 1967, the first game between the two schools. Linfield would end their series with Hawaii with a 1-5 record. Ironically, all six games were played at Hawaii, but I think the exposure for Linfield helped to develop the "Hawaiian Pipeline" of talent to McMinnville.
Linfield also knocked off Boise State on the road in the first and only game between the two schools. The Cats also had a 15 game series against Portland State, and dominated the Vikings, 11-3-1. Linfield did play Oregon State way back in the day, finishing 1-5-1 against the Beavers.

No doubt, what the Raiders have done since the 1990s has been outstanding, it's similar to what UCLA did in hoops during the Wooden era. Linfield actually didn't join the NCAA until late in the 1990s, it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if the Wildcats could have played in the NCAA during the entire decade of the 90s. Linfield had NAIA playoff teams four times that decade, including a national title appearance in 1992, so that's one of those unknown questions. Just from what I've seen on tape, yes, those Cat teams could have competed with the playoff teams from the NCAA during that era.

Linfield since 1956, 53-0 (the oldest winning streak in college football history)

Raiderguy,

Mount Union is really good?  Tells us something that any DIII fan from here to Mongolia doesn't know.  ;)

PC,

We'll see you in SoCal.  It should be a fun group of west coast D3boards posters gathered together to catch the action.

Just about three weeks until fall camp opens!  Go 'Cats!

That's consecutive winning seasons as I recall.

Ok Wildcat 11 and all the ships at sea,

Raiders can only claim 30 to this point.....don't slip we're comin', we're comin'.

Also 17 straight conference championships and semi final playoff appearances.  8) The road to Salem has to go through Alliance.

The graduation rate of the players is higher than the teams winning %.

Really good and really smart. ;D

By he way have I told you....Love your work. Seriously. I know my sarcasm is usually showing in many posts but not this one. Ric does a great job for us on his independent sight but  there is not the video library available to compare to your resources. Keep up the good work and I hope to someday hit the great NW in the fall. My kids are still in Cle Elum & Roslyn but I usually stay here during the season.
