Linfield61

I think Linfield has a great chance against Hardin-Simmons. Can't wait for the game!

Yeah, this is the same Shareece Wright who was facing a felony charge and time in a Cali State Pen before the charge was reduced.  Awesome!
Yes, SOU is known for picking up shady characters, but Wright shouldn't be characterized as such.  Do you know the story behind him "facing a felony charge and time in a Cali State Pen", or did you purposely frame it so he sounds like a thug?

From an article in the Riverside Press-Enterprise:

But last September the USC cornerback's world was twisted like a balloon animal when an incident at a party in Colton led to Wright being charged with a felony count of resisting a police officer, a dubious allegation considering he was never arrested in the first place. ...

Reports say that police were called to the scene of a party at a Colton house last Labor Day weekend and asked non-residents to leave. Wright refused, saying he was an overnight guest of the host and didn't want to drive after drinking.

Ultimately, three people from the party were arrested, although Wright wasn't one of them. Later, however, he was briefly detained and then charged with the felony.

After a series of plea-bargain negotiations, the charge was downgraded to a misdemeanor. In July, Wright learned that it would be reduced to a citation and eventually wiped from his record upon completion of 200 hours of community service.

Interesting differences in terminology between that story and 11's take on it...

Practice?  We talkin about practice???

Back from the Menlo-Oxy game. Either Oxy isn't as good as advertised or Menlo is pretty good. Defensively anyway. Although neither team really impressed me. Menlo had just two decent plays from scrimmage, a run by Souza and a pass play in the second half. Most of Oxy's offense came through the air, and it still wasn't a whole lot. They had one 53 yd throw and catch for a TD and an interception return for a TD. The score at the half was 3-0 Oxy. Looking forward to seeing the Cats against the Tigers in two weeks.

Wow! Both Whitworth and Willamette lost today.
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!

Thanks Wildcat11!

I wasn't aware that Whitworth was rated #5? Since when did that occur? From the front page poll:

Your Triple Take: Which ranked team is most likely to get upset this weekend?
No. 2 UW-Whitewater
No. 5 Whitworth
No. 8 Willamette
No. 9 Wesley
No. 19 Franklin

Thanks for the email. Very helpful.

Sorry about that. Next time I'll notify you.

I listened to both the Willamette and Whitworth game today. I think Whitworth had a much better opponent and Willamette doesn't have the team it did last year, but everybody knows that. I think both teams will be very good though in NWC play after they work out the bugs. Willamette's 1 string QB got knocked out of the game with an injury, not sure what happened or if it's just minor.

I think it will be very interesting t see how the 'cats do vs. HSU next week. Whitworth pulled out to an early lead but couldn't hold. HSU is very deep and talented with a great QB and supporting cast. Should be a great game at the CatDome.

Another couple of comments about the Menlo game:
1. Oxy brought a lot of fans, but Menlo had a lot. Biggest crowd I've seen at Conner Field. Too bad the game didn't give either side much to cheer about.
2. The Oaks had a much more disciplined feel to them.

I'm anxious to see the Cats in two weeks!!

TrickyTroy

Whitworth gave us HSU fans a scare. Yall have a great football team and hope to meet you in the playoffs. Next weeks game Linfeild and HSU will be a nail bitter. I'm Bias(ex-cowboy) hoping HSU wins.

From the box score it appears that Menlo was indeed the more disciplined team. In the first half, all of Menlo's practice and drilling paid off with consistent results: punt, punt, punt, punt. In the second half, the Oaks conducted themselves with further military-like precision: interception, punt, punt, interception, punt, fumble, interception, punt. Through their careful preparation, coaching methods, and self-control, the Oaks deliberately managed to not get inside the 20 even once. And by exercising tremendous restraint and through a constant regimen of willpower, Menlo was able to score zero points. A true team effort, and a tribute to Menlo's team discipline. Well done!

Bob, thak you for clarifying what I was trying to say. I forgot you know all and the rest of us peons know nothing and are unable to make any kind of judgement or analysis.

Willamette's QB went down with an ankle injury. He was on the sidelines for a good amount of time with his shoe off trying to walk around. He was still in the game as their holder but never got back in at QB. The Cobbers' defense just dominated the Bearcats' OL. And several players and the HC admitted to it.

Willamette just now knows what it's like to travel that far and play an away game. It's not an easy task. They're still a good team that will give teams fits all year. Good luck to them.

Good to see that SOU is still....well...SOU.

wucatwu,

As you know, when you're charged with a felony the typical punishment "if" convicted is detention in a state penitentiary.  As Bob was nice enough to point out he took a plea bargain to serve 200 hours of community service and have the charge reduced to a misdemeanor.  I don't think Wright is thug at all but something went down to have police came back after the fact to charge him with a felony.  A thug to me is someone who shows a history of continual rule breaking or just continual bad behavior.  As far I as I know this is the only time Wright has every been in any trouble.

I still don't know how a football player at freaking USC gets declared academically ineligible but I'm sure there is another story behind that too.

My "awesome" at the end of the original post was more out of frustration that an already improved athletic SOU team might possibly get Wright in camp and game ready just in time for the Linfield game.

CobberFvr,

Agreed...long road trips are very hard...espcially for a first game when you have new parts.  I think Willamette will improve greatly as the year goes along but they have a tough two weeks with a solid CalLu team and then having to travel at SOU.
