Great game tonight. Two heavyweights slugging it out. The PLU - CLU game was ugly for the Lutes.

Would like to hear from the PLU fans on this board, what happened to the Lutes program? PLU tied for the NWC crown back in 2001, but then Frosty retired, and the winning has retired, too. The Lutes certainly have a strong tradition to draw from, what's been the problem?

Yo Shotgun! Are you going to be able to make the trip out West this fall?

They say 4-6 weeks for simon. Not much you can do. Just let nature take it's course. If things go right he should be ready for playoffs.
Sure hope that estimate is conservative and Simon can get back to play this season...
Last night...outstanding contest...Oxy is top drawer comp for Cats.

These teams seem like naturals for West D-3 regular season ...Why not???

PPJ,

Sorry to hear about Simon, you could tell he was having
some fun this year pounding the rock. Our thoughts are with you
both and hope for a quick recovery.

Great job Cats!!
One game at a time!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

My guess is they won't discuss it here. We wouldn't. Perhaps a personal message to some would loosen up some insight.

I know this isn't the sound-bite that they wanted to hear . . . but Oxy showed a ton of grit in a tough loss to a solid Linfield squad.  Here are some pics from last night's game:

It was also great meeting so many of the NWC d3boards.com posters before the game.

It was a great game, Oxy Fan, against a class program.

PPJ and Grouchygramps,  I'm really sorry about Simon. He plays hard, and he took a pounding last night.  The good news is that he WILL be back later this season.

Please give him our best.

PPJ and GrouchyGramps,
Sorry to hear about Simon, however I'm sure he will be back as soon as possible and will for sure see some more time in the post season if not before.

Great game Cats.  Now time to get ready for SOU

coco

I'm not thinking about the post-season just yet.

Cat Dad, please give your boy a big slap on the back for the job he did last night, too.

Looked for you PPJ. Sorry to hear about Simon. Not much of a consolation, but his pic is on the front page.

On the drive home I was think about what I saw and heard. One thing that impressed me was how well both coaching staffs must have studied film. Maybe I shouldn't be, but I was amazed at the number of times the DCs for both teams were calling out to their teams what the play was going to be and were correct. Leaving it up to the players to see who simply executed better.

Here are some more photos (not as good as Oxy Fan's) from the Oxy -Linfield game: http://www.pictureprints.net/albums.php?gallery=3022

Also some from the Cal Lu - PLU game: http://www.pictureprints.net/albums.php?gallery=3021

Thanks Oxy Fan.  I think that those cover the essence of the game.

My favorite is (35 out of 38) the battle between Sparky Gonzales 93 trying to get his hands on Scott Saunders 1. With LINFIELD rushing 3 guys in the second half when OXY trailed that scenario played out almost every down.  I do not recollect Sparky ever sacking him but it was getting closer every down. When Saunders did hightail it out of the pocket he usually made something happen.

PPJ and Grouchy Gramps,
Really sorry about Simon...It must be really painful for all of you...I will pray for a speedy recovery....Gramps is right...something good will come out of this.  One thing is for sure...we'll all be hungry to see Simon pound the rock again.
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Can't wait to hear WildCat 11's analysis of the game.

The lighting at Oxy's field was inadequate making it hard for fans and announcers to see what was going on at times.

What, you've never seen a football game played in the dark before against a team wearing all-black uniforms? Oxy only breaks out the glow-in-the-dark footballs for conference games.
