Gig Harbor Cat

#23040
Hey guys, really glad to be back in the pacific northwest.  Wildcat 11 and I had a great trip.  I have to clarify a couple of points on our trip.  We did fly down to LA, and yes it was on SWA , And yes we did have a G 5, but it as a Pontiac G 5 that Wildcat 11 rented for us at Enterprise rent a car, so I really didnt fib last week.  We really did roll into Oxy in a G 5.
I have to say the Oxy field situation is a little different to say the least,  Having the Cats on our side and Oxy on the away side.  The frickin lights were horrible, it was actually dark in the corners of the endzones, we were sitting in the top of the stands and the lights on the other side were pointed right at us.  Now I know my eyes aren't what they used to be buy most of the time we had to wait for the call before knowing if there was a catch on the far side.  I think the announcer is related to the guy at Puget Sound, especially on his Oxy first down calls,  you all know what I mean there.
We hit the Oxy tailgate scene and met the D3 guys that were there including the famous Oxy Bob-- he was pretty cool, throw a Catdome shirt on him and he would fit right in with our crew on the corner.  also met Pat pre game, he was pretty busy with his gig so just talked for a sec, don't think what I said will cost me any K.
I have to give props to the Oxy club.  They are pretty good.  I know we played them soft most of the night on D, except the run but they had a good gameplan and exicuted well.  The only time they run was when the QB is under center, you might as well just PHONE THAT CALL IN and go to second and ten as our Cat D stuffed it all night.  ROCKETMAN Did a great job of making big plays for the Cats on a somewhat flat night.  Make no mistake he is the leader of this team, he does a great job.  Simon ran the ball well all night, one tough young man.  Talked to him at the motel the morning after the game, he was in good spirits, he will rally I am sure and get right back to his old bad self.
All in all another great Cat W, As I call it the Cats are the only 2-0 club in Oregon.

Aw, gee, thanks for the condescending pat on the head. Linfield is pretty good, too. You were off a bit on your 25-point spread.

QuoteThe Lutes certainly have a strong tradition to draw from, what's been the problem?

My guess is they won't discuss it here. We wouldn't. Perhaps a personal message to some would loosen up some insight.

no clue, thought we were on the way back, obviously not

Yeah, I don't really have much to add.  I think they are relying on young and/or inexperienced players in some key spots (so they should look better later in the year).  The Lute players and coaches have more talent than what the scores have shown the past two weeks.

Perhaps we should lighten up ....  and harken back to the days when we played games on that crowned grass field at night in the rain.

OB, did you see that I did say FAMOUS  And yes I did miss on the spread, that is where I did give props to the Oxy O.

( I know you are just kidding on the other)

Peace Out

Say, isn't Linfield also the only national championship football program in the entire state of Oregon. That's a significant accomplishment, even Ohio State won a national title decades before Mount Union did.

THat would explain why on the audio cast Dave and Ty often times had no idea whether the ball was caught, dropped or who the heck even had the ball.

Very interesting and surprising stat MCat.  Not sure what to make of it since we're so early in the season.  Definitely something to improve on though.

Breaking news from Willamette.  Ryan Whitcomb will have surgery on his left ankle and is done for the season.  As Speckman said, "It's really unfortunate and you just feel awful for him."

Sorry for Ryan.  Seems like the Freshman have been doing well though.  What can you tell us about SOU?

Coco,
It was probably written here somewhere but I missed it.....what was the score of the JV game and how did the young Cats look?

'64,
It was a rout. We left at the half, but the final was something like 45 to 6. McKechnie is still a great runner.

The young Cats looked good. They are not the well-oiled machine that we are used to seeing at the 'Dome, but they did okay, and we've got some definite talent coming up. You would recognize some names. Ed Kama's kid got a nice pick in the endzone and ran it back a ways. Doug Hire's boy is one of the QBs. There is a big Samoan kid on the Oline. These games are going to be the best deal in the world for these guys.
Two words:  THE STREAK

coco

And my condolences to Ryan Whitcomb. We all hate to see these kids get hurt.

I'll add to the condolences.  It stinks to see players suffer season ending injuries after the work they put in.  Hope his surgery is successful.

Along those lines best of luck to Simon Lamson and his injury too.  I hope that he'll make it back by the end of the season.

CatDad

Our best wishes go out as well for Whitcomb and especially Simon... but we are here to tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel... it was a tough year but there has been a lot of growth and he has s greater appreciation for what he does have in his life at this time.

Hey WC11, I was watching the game from the Oxy website, and Pat Coleman said you had a close call on the sideline in the first quarter on a long pass. Was it really a close call? You seemed to be ok shooting the postgame celebration. The Oxy camera person was atrocious, we missed the end of the play. I noticed they didn't know what fourth down meant a few times, they forgot to include the punter, so we saw the ball being hiked out of screen!
