The Oxy camera person was atrocious, we missed the end of the play. I noticed they didn't know what fourth down meant a few times, they forgot to include the punter, so we saw the ball being hiked out of screen!

First, it's not Oxy's broadcast, it's KadyTV.com, which broadcasts local high school and Cal Lutheran sports, and added Oxy to its schedule this season. Second, I checked out a few minutes of the replay of the broadcast, and I thought the video looked darn good. The game announcers were pretty bad, however.

Aw, gee, thanks for the condescending pat on the head. Linfield is pretty good, too. You were off a bit on your 25-point spread.

It must have been those "frickin" lights ;)

I agree, the video quality wasn't bad for streaming video, however, I hope KadyTV finds a better camera person next time. The tracking of the action was definitely below par, by any standards. I thought the announcers were fine, it would be helpful if the score and time were posted on the screen. Aside from the poor camera performance, my only other issue was the freezing of the video after the first quarter. But that's the iffy nature of this technology, and I got to see the game for free out here in Michigan. Overall, I'd give the presentation a "B".

One of the benefits of having the fans of both teams sit on the eastside of the OXY football field was the opportunity for we out-of-area fans to see a beautiful sunset smogset.

C'mon now--don't you know the smog is what makes the sunset so much more colorful!   ::)  Nice meeting you on Saturday by the way.

Breaking news from Willamette.  Ryan Whitcomb will have surgery on his left ankle and is done for the season.  As Speckman said, "It's really unfortunate and you just feel awful for him."

:(
Sorry for Ryan.  Seems like the Freshman have been doing well though.  What can you tell us about SOU?

I can tell you that SOU is improved from last year.  The thing that struck me most was how much bigger their offensive and defensive lines were than ours, and in the first quarter especially, our guys didn't really deal with that very well.  Baldwin is a pretty complete package at tailback, with the ability to run for power or speed.  From watching SOU's game against EOU, I can also say that Beach is an excellent wide receiver.  Fast, and he can take big hits.  Fortunately, the Raiders never really got a vertical passing game going against us, though I give a lot of credit to the 10-15 mph cross-field wind for that.  Defensively, SOU will hit you - hard.  There were three or four really brutal hits that their LBs and DBs put on our guys, two of which literally sent our guys flying through the air.  All clean hits to be sure, just hard.

Of course, the Raiders are still the Raiders, and they did have a couple of really, really dumb plays that may have cost them the game:

1. With 17 seconds left in the first half, and SOU leading 13-3, Jose Green fumbles the kickoff return on the SOU 24.  SOU calls a sideline pass that's complete down to the 18, where the receiver inexplicably fails to go out of bounds.  The Raiders, out of timeouts, weren't able to get another play off.

2. With Willamette leading 16-15 in the third quarter, Baldwin busts a 60 yard touchdown run ... that gets called back to the 21 because of a needless - I mean needless - block in the back.  SOU then missed a field goal and was picked off in the end zone.

3. With Willamette leading 22-15 and just over a minute left, an SOU DB on the other side of the field from the play throws Scott Schoettgen down to the ground.  Penalty, first down, take a knee, game over.

Bonus comedic moment of the game:

SOU Public Address guy: "And don't forget fans, next Saturday, September 26, will be the final Raider home game of the season, as SOU takes on the Linfield Wildcats.  Everybody say BOO!"

SOU fans: "BOO!"

Willamette fans: "BOO!"

Retired Old Rat

What a bizzare schedule.

Is there some reason they don't go NCAA D2 or D3 and join a conference with teams in the neighborhood?

They are going to get pounded big time by North Dakota.
