Kudos go to the Pios for their first victory of the season and and for scoring 57 points vs. Crown.  With a taste of victory who knows but what that may inspire and encourage them to keep on improving and believing that things can get better.

Actually, if PLU beats Whitworth, Menlo and then the Cats---our Autobid goes to the Lutes (if I'm not mistaken).  Meaning the Cats would only have to lose one game.  I'm not saying this is likely--just clarifying a possible scenario....and PLU seems to be getting better each week so the Cats need to stay focussed for the next two games before they worry about Championships and playoffs

Just for grins, I looked into this (longshot) scenario.  In the list of three-way tie-breakers for the NWC, overall record comes before the "Rose Bowl" rule (longest time since postseason) -- so basically the Lutes would need help beyond pulling a shocker in McMinnville (namely another Bearcat loss, which is just as unlikely).

Plenty of football before Nov. 14th, though, and the Lutes should focus on the opportunity to run their overall record to 4-4 and lock up a top-three finish in the conference over the next two weeks (at Whitworth, then hosting Menlo).  I think that would be huge considering their start to the season.  Should be a very good game in Spokane this Saturday.  The Pirates will be looking to rebound from their own loss to the Oaks.

My gut feeling is that Linfield is going to get all they can handle from PLU a few weeks down the road.  Don't sleep on this improving PLU team.

A strong Linfield win Saturday coupled with the SJU bye will enable the cats to leapfrog St. Johns.

I notice there are no UPS supporters on the Boards...not surprising, I guess.

It's not so much that the Loggers have no offense - they had over 400 yards vs. PLU, dominated the first half, and were shut out at the 1 twice. But they have not done well in the Red Zone all year, and their turnover ratio in the past 4 games in 16 (UPS) to 2 (OPP). So the defense is on the field so much that they wear down and often give up points late.

The Loggers do have some talent - their linebackers and safeties have played well all year, and their running game has improved. But, obviously, they are struggling, and the next 2 games against perennial powers appear daunting.

I hope the NWC gets 2 reps to the football playoffs this year. Last year's baseball situation, with George Fox the only NWC rep among 3 top twenty five conference teams, was my first exposure to the way the tourney works against the NWC.

Welcome!  It's always good to have more teams represented here!

Welcome, idalogger.  Nice to hear from a UPS supporter.  There have been a few others in previous years (and more Whitworth guys as well).

It's a longshot.  I think Willamette (with two losses) would stack up very well against most teams that end up making the playoff field.  However, the selection includes space for only 6 "runner-up" teams and that "extra" loss to Concordia is really hurting.  Right now there are around 10 one-loss teams in the mix for those 6 slots and possibly a couple two-loss teams (like Capital - both losses to current top-ten teams) that are ahead of Willamette.  We'll see...
