I just read the "Around the Nation" article.  In one article someone makes mention of earning a conference championship ring.  Huh?  I had to read it a couple of times to make sure that's what it said.  Is it just me or does that seem wrong?  While winning the conference is something to be proud of, to me, that's something that is shown by a banner in the gym, or maybe a t-shirt.  But a ring!!!  For crying outloud, maybe we should give rings to the Lewis and Clark players for their first win of the year.  Rings are for the things that are extra special- National Championships, State Championships, Super Bowls.  If we start handing out rings for every little thing then they lose their significance.  Is it just me.....?

Yep. We went round and round about 4-5 years ago. You have a 54 winning season 'Cat mentality like the rest of us.

We could not comprehend meeting hundreds of guys of all ages at homecomings wearing four rings.

Seems most schools leave it to a vote and raise money.

Now four Mount rings I, myself, would oogle at that.

If Linfield does win the NWC and does go deep into the playoffs but does not win the Stagg, I could see some of the Wildcat seniors who came in in 2006 wanting to have a conference championship ring as a momento of a successful year.

River,
 One word
Nope  The only rings I see worn are for national championships

No Mount player would have four rings.

The ONLY players in d3 history who would have four rings would be a 'handful' (pun intended) of Augustana players! ;D

Except for guys who might have medical red shirted during the one year MUC missed.

You got me there. :D

But I'm betting there are more Augie guys with 4 rings than MUC guys. ;)

While MUC is obviously THE dynasty in the history of d3, there is ONE thing they have NOT done that Augie did.

Since the CCIW has (so far ;D) futilely attempted to overcome the Mount, I'll take whatever victories I can. ;)

[And as an IWU guy, I don't even like Augie; but post-season, I'm a CCIW guy. 8)]

Oxy did rings in '04 for the Elite 8 team, and watches for the next two Conference Chapmionships.  Nothing for last year's conference champion team, as I guess not enough money could be raised at the school yard sale for so much as a t-shirt or something.  Damn recession.

QuoteAlso, Cal Lutheran has improved greatly over the year and if they come up to the NW it will be on a plane and not a bus like they had to do for the Willamette game.
Really? Wow.  The furthest we ever had to go by bus was to Menlo.  Looks like the economy hit the 'Lu pretty hard too, I guess I don't feel so bad now for not getting another watch!  It would be interesting to find the D3 team which travels the furthest by bus for a single game.

I agree with GHC, the rankings mean nothing.  The only thing that matters is this Saturday at CATDOME against UPS.  CATS need to remain focussed and deliver another great permformance.

Anyway, we all know the first round matchup will be the SCIAC Chump Champ at Linfield.

GO CATS GO!

If Linfield does win out then the 'Cats are going to get a very good Oxy or Cal Lutheran team.  I'm not going to lable them chumps because I saw just solid Oxy was first hand.  Also, Cal Lutheran has improved greatly over the year and if they come up to the NW it will be on a plane and not a bus like they had to do for the Willamette game.

However, everyone is right...Linfield HAS to remain focus on who's in front of them.

I have seen Oxy three times and CaLu once and I think CaLu has the better talent....but Oxy has this knack....Oxy is well coached and is very disciplined when I have seen them...but CaLu has got as good of talent as I have seen with any D3 team this year.  If CaLu trumps the "knack" and ends up in McMinnville our Cats will be in for a big fight....but it is hard to go against Oxy at the Patterson (see Redlands for reference)
