Not knowing anything about UST, except for what I read on this poster board (and who can trust that ;D ;D) I concur with GHC as my wanna-be score....and won't be surprised if it's solidly correct...after all it's been phoned in 8)
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

QuoteHow about rooting for the team with more national championships, and the oldest winning streak in the history of college football?

GHC...with all due respect....I think you are being just a little optimistic.  I think I'd rather tone it down and go with 28-14.

Out of curiosity what would the salary difference be for Speckmans new job?
Is it completely private?
ANybody have an idea of average salaries for DIII coaches and 1AA coaches?

Money always plays a part whether we like to admit it or not.

I'd like to respectfully disagree on the last part.  I think for a lot of the coaches at d3 money is not a serious part of the equation.  Three that come to mind would be Frosty, Ad, and Gagliardi.  I'd bet they all had serious offers from higher levels and chose to stay where they were.

That's not a dis on any who have moved on or "up", to each his own.

I agree.  Also, Frosty and Gagliardi were and are unique in their coaching philosophies, which really fit the D3 ethic.  They would have probably had to change or significantly modify their coaching approaches at a IA or IAA school and could not see doing it.  From descriptions of Ad from Linfield posters, he was so invested in Wildcat football and athletics that money or little else would have tempted him to leave.  Coach Locey, on the other hand, probably felt (like Hawkins at WU) that he had other worlds to conquer, and the money didn't hurt either.

Well said RIver, on all points

I think you can also add LK from MUC to that list. I think these unique outstanding individuals love the purity of the level they are at. I also believe their  priorities of academics first, would make them compromise somewhat to move up.
Good Luck to Linfield and UST this Saturday and let's all pray for no injuries to these fine great student athlete's that many of our lives revolve around. It should be a very interesting next couple of weeks. This is my Favorite Time of the Year.

Coach Gagliardi always says the Benedictine monks at SJU took a vow of poverty and expected him to do the same.

My My Dusty,
You guys duck us again and you throw out all these quotes that take up a whole page???
All that needs to be said is........Head lines read.........
Cats play this week!!!!!!!!!
The Johnnies turn  in gear!!!

Talking about coach"s and so on.........

The one's you talk about are one name legends.

Talk about PLU, say Frosty, talk about Linfield and say Paul or AD and we all know who you are talking about.

It's not always the money, and for Paul, Ad, and Frosty, it sure wasn't the facilities. I can only speak for my Linfield ties, but the stuff we have now!!!
:o :o :o

These and other great Coach's use the football field as a class room,
and because of them you leave College with better look on life!!...............
Almost as good as we PEP Band members ;D

GO WILDCATS!
ONE GAME AT A TIME!!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

This has probably been posted on here before, but if you did not see, it gives you some info on the matchup, from a tommie perspective.
http://www.tommiemedia.com/sports/breaking-down-the-numbers-st-thomas-vs-linfield/

The analysis is obviously a bit biased, and there are some lapses in logic, but it gives you an idea of what to expect from the tommies. I feel that the author short-changes the cat D and their 27 int's a bit, also the relative strength of our d-line.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Do not discount the long term relationship between Oregon State head coach Mike Riley and Jay Locey. Or the 'going home' aspect with the return to Corvallis.

I ask....will Jay Locey return to McMinnville this Saturday as a fan? Don't know his datebook but his team won't be playing.
