CatDad and CatMom are flying out Friday at noon to the frozen tundra.... actually we are looking forward to the heat wave that is 31 degrees in WI... a far cry from the 8 degrees I had driving in this morning...

The boys are excited, focused and ready to put the road warrior garb back on.... this will be a GREAT game.....

See all you Cat fans on Saturday!!

GO CATS!!!

The Cats may have gotten a break with the weather, as no snow is predicted for Saturday, and winds will be 6 mph. The temps will peak in the 20s, with partly sunny skies.
Interesting fact about Wisconsin-Whitewater, they were not always known as the Warhawks. The football program was first known as the Purple, then Quakers. I wonder if purple and silver weren't the original color scheme, many schools have switched to black later, like Northwestern. When Dennis Green("They were who we thought they were") coached NW, black wasn't part of the Wildcats uniform.

Didn't Whitewater change from Quakers to Warhawks during the tenure of Coach Perkins, for whom the stadium is named? I thought I heard that somewhere.

Just now on the local Portland news there was coverage of the college kids in Madison and their giant snowball. They failed to mention that it was likely fueled by alcohol.

That's possible according to the UWW pre-season media guide, page 22.  The name Purple and Quakers were unofficial nicknames, Warhawk being an official nickname (logo was an Indian warrior later changed to a bird and today simply the bird head). Their 1950 name is listed as Quarkers, the 1959 championship team says Warhawks. Forrest Perkins started his 29 year run as coach in 1956. Doesn't say when the name Warhawks was adopted as the official nickname, as far as I could tell.

"A look "Inside the Numbers" of the Linfield-UWW game is posted on my blog:"

Dittos on the article BP...very savy analysis.  It definetly demonstrates UWW's superior statistics.  However, I think many of us watched Texas vs. Nebraska last week.   According to the sports pundits and pregame analysis, the Huskers were in for a drubbing.  This is one poster that predicted a win by Nebraska due to first hand knowledge of NU's defense.  They almost pulled it off despite the fact that the Husker's had the worst offense that I've ever seen at that level in 57 years.

Of course we all know that the Texas/NU game last Saturday is just one example of an untold number of games that don't go according to the statistical script.  I've seen more Rose Bowl games than I can count, where the Big 10 had all the big stats and big guns only to be sent home by the upstart Leftcoasters.  I think this game is going to be won in the head.  The team that wants it the most, that believes inspite of adversity, adjusts quickly and makes the best out of the turnovers will win the day.  What team will that be?

From a quick perusal of the SOS and updating it in my head it appears that Linfield's SOS is way ahead of UWW at this point.....Even the many ranked teams that the Cats beat are ahead of most of the WIAC teams in my calculation.....Maybe somebody with a bigger brain can confirm or deny my estimate.  So I would have to say if you want to talk stats then the SOS would counter BP's well thought analysis.

Therefore if my analysis is accurate it looks to me that the WIAC may not be as tough a conference overall this year as in the past.  So...has UWW been performing behind a weak sauce WIAC year? :-\ ;D  That just may be wishful thinking on my part, but it could be true...Guess we'll see this Saturday.  Don't forget what happened to LaCrosse and Rowan (two of the big names in DIII) a few years back...they came to town with flying colors thinking they were ready to knock off the upstart Cats...and were turned away bitterly disappointed....This game is going to be dynamically stressful, you can be sure of that....to the end.

Oh yes, and history does matter.  If you don't think so talk to the coaches of the USC's, Miami's, Nortre Dame's, Michagan's, Florida's etc, etc....Without history it's pretty tough to see the future.  Coaches are hired and fired because of it.  Even administrators at the DIII level have realized the importance of a strong football program.

It's almost Thursday and I snow plowed like a Wildcat today.

Thanks, Chriswyly.

I think the angle in which you are looking at the game is plausible as well. I like looking at the teams and discussing plausible outcomes. When UWW faces a 3rd and 9 on the Linfield 16, it will be interesting to see if UWW continues their 3rd down and Red Zone success and gets the first down or TD. Or will Linfield get one of their vaunted takeaways. I like doing some analyzing and then see how the game plays out. I hope both teams bring their A game and remain injury free!

That video was not made by the staff, and the "WUCATS" channel is not affiliated with the university.  Everything made by staff is either on the athletics website or on Vimeo.  We don't have a fan blog like ADvantage Catdome.  Yet.

That's good to know because it comes across as coming from the Willamette football program.  Maybe the owner of the "WUCATS" channel should make that clear so folks don't think WU's staff is making videos calling Linfield "Losers".

Not to name drop, but from what Perk told me, one of the first things he did when he got to Whitewater was get that "Quaker" nickname changed. For those of you who know him, you probably even know the tone of voice he used when he told me.   ;D

I will get the scoop as to how the name change went down and put it on my blog.

don't know when they changed the name,  uniform colors used to be purple white and gold with white helmets  went to purple helmets in 1990 and started doing away with the gold in the uni's.

Guess so. Yeah, it's great that the local kids get recognition at home, and it was nice that they mentioned Doug Hire, too.

Are you making the trip to Whitewater?

Unfortunately, I can't coco, but I'll be there in spirit. I'll be hootin' and hollerin' (the neighbors think I'm nuts anyway) and trying not to get my blood pressure too worked up.

Yes, it was nice to mention Coach Hire, he is the reason my son is at Linfield and will grow up to be a better man because of it. I can't say enough good things about him.

Good luck and God Speed to the boys, coaches and staff as they travel this week.

Aloha,

Go Cats! Go Big D!

ps: I really enjoy reading all the hype and hoopla about this weekends game and how this team will do that and this team will do this and the stats are that and how on paper the Cats are underdogs, and so on, etc, etc. The funny thing is, we've been hearing this all throughout the playoffs and most of the season and look at us now, 12 and 0 and in the Semi's.

You know why? H E A R T!

You can't teach it, you can't coach it! This team has IT!

Don't they get it? This is a team of destiny!

That's my take.

Nooo, we don't "get it" that Linfield is a team of destiny. Just like you wouldn't accept a UWW fan's claim the Hawks are a team of destiny. However, I DO AGREE with you regarding heart! I would never question the Cats' heart! They have won 12 straight games and are left standing when 231 teams have gone home. I love to look at the stats to try to identify what teams might have to do/achieve/overcome to win. I will be taking a look at more numbers on my blog, but I am ready to make some predictions:

1. Linfield will not win because they have more heart than UWW.
2. Linfield will not lose simply because it is cold or snowy outside.
3. UWW will not win because Linfield is intimidated about playing one of the "Big Two".
4. UWW will not lose because they are "looking ahead" to the Stagg Bowl.
5. Neither team will win because their fans message board postings provided the best statistical argument.

As with all games, Saturday's showdown will come down to the team that blocks the best, tackles the best, protects the ball the best, and makes the fewest mistakes.

I look forward to a great, injury free game!
