My observations and opinion regarding the UWW/Linfield game. Keep in mind, written from a UWW perspective:

Again my congratulations to Linfield for a great season and having a great program. Anyone who would not respect this team or program would have to have a serious ax to grind.

Touchdown Tommy

GHC: I told 11 this yesterday, but TDT was incredibly impressed with the 'Cat gameplan and execution.  They had the 'Hawks on the ropes.  Patterson was dynamite and your boy Rocketman showed lots of poise in the pocket.  I personally feel like (as sometimes happens) that the better team did NOT win in Whitewater on Saturday.  The Stagg should be competitive as neither team is the juggernaut of years past.  MUCk is potentially missing their starting QB and Whitewater has just shown Larry Kehres all the chinks in their armor.

I would add the poise of the Wildcats was evident in this contest, when Whitewater broke out early with the long TD run, there wasn't any sense of frustration along the sidelines. Other teams may have buckled after this early score, but not Linfield. The other aspect of this game that was impressive was the physicality of the Cats, despite the size advantage of the Warhawks. Although it was a tough loss, everyone associated with this program should appreciate this great season.

Interestingly the offensive lines of both teams had the size advantage over the defensive lines.  Using the height/weight figures listed on the rosters posted on each team's website the WHITEWATER offensive line averaged 6'2"  271lbs and Linfield's defensive line averaged 6'2"  254 lbs.  Linfield's offensive line averaged 6'2"  283lbs to WHITEWATER'S defensive front averaging 6'2"  251lbs.

Ok, I spent two days licking my wounds and just spend another half day catching up on the board.
Super tough loss on Saturday.  I almost would have prefered a blow out so as not to have so many "what-ifs" going through my mind.
That said, incredible game. We were so close.  I'm super proud of these Cats.  Great season!  It's the most emotional I've been since I left the program myself.  You'll always wonder "what if" and "if only" but in the end you'll still have the friendships and fellowships from other players and staff that will far outlast any ring on a finger.
Thank you for a wonderful season.  best of luck to you seniors out there.  Now it's time for you to pick a handle and join the wildcat nation on this board.
You left no doubt!

Pat,
Great job this past weekend on the commentating.  However I must say I enjoyed your "blooper" of asking your partner
PAT:  "Does that play have a name, where they fake the pass and then hand it off?  Like a reverse playaction or something?"
OTHER GUY (sorry, didn't catch the name): "Yea, that would be a draw"
PAT (thinking to himself): "duh!"

Some thawbservations....

"In its broadest sense, the phrase 'bush league' has come to mean an action, event, or individual as being amateurish in nature, rather than being of professional quality."

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-bush-league.htm

"U dub dub" and "you f***ed up" have the same amount of syllables, it's true. Some WIAC posters have attempted to cover for bush league behavior last Saturday.
(Ed. note: The better team turned it on and pulled out a home victory)

My guess is the ball in that weather had something to do with it but, both quarterbacks skidded the ball onto the turf well before their receivers. Just threw them a ground ball.
The first time Aaron Boehme did it the chant "U dub dub" went up.
4:49 in the first quarter LINFIELD penalized 5 yards for a false start "U dub dub" went out.
12:00 mark of the 4th quarter a LINFIELD kickoff return moved back from the 47 to the 23 for holding. "U dub dub" goes up.
Who made who?

Attendance was listed at 2,223. 2100 of them "U dub dub" fans were in the home grandstand. 40 "U dub dub" fans were above and behind the visitor stands.  I estimate the LINFIELD fans between 75-90. It's tough to make noise with gloves on unless whistling without your fingers is a talent.

LINFIELD (and Occidental) make an announcement during a game about a 10 minute waiting period before parents and fans are to enter the playing field. Saturday the very full western "U dub dub" fans emptied onto the field like Macalester beating St. Johns.

LINFIELD has a quaint little tradition after a game where the coach addresses his team as the team takes a knee and listens. The other coaches break into groups with their charges and share their ideas.
It was at this point (from Advantage Catdome blog)
QuoteThe 'Cats, even though they were bitterly disappointed, handled themselves with class and dignity after the game. True, there were tears, but they stayed together as a team and held each other up in a very tough moment.

Saturday 15 minutes after the game with parents and faithful gathered around with heads bowed the flippin' p.a. system was blazing Guns 'N Roses from 20 years ago! The tape ran out or somebody finally had an idea and the stadium went silent after LINFIELD's tradition was finished.

Yep, that's me. Big-time brain fart right at the beginning of the game. Kept looking for the reset button. :)

It's gotta be tough being on the road and going to other schools that do their own thing after games. Do you do anything but complain?

That's not a complaint, just a disclaimer.

Fact is a fact, Jack.

I chose not to ask you about the chant because you had important business and probably an ear piece as well.
Have you ever heard that chant there when you were not AS busy?

How many days do you figure it will take you to get over a game in which you didn't participate DOC?

So they chanted...I don't really see what the big deal it about the UWW chant.  It was a little repetitive but harmless.

The PA blasting after post game did make it impossible to hear anyone from Linfield talk after the game but sometimes when you're up in the pressbox you may not realize that you might be drowning out the folks on the field.  Our PA guy (who is top shelf) did that after the first home game and all it took was a note to wait to give his spiel until after the team breaks.  I don't think it was intentional by the UWW folks at all.

However, the one thing I did hate was that damn cannon.  No matter how much I readied myself it still made me jump a little.  That sucker is LOUD.
