My observations and opinion regarding the UWW/Linfield game. Keep in mind, written from a UWW perspective:

Again my congratulations to Linfield for a great season and having a great program. Anyone who would not respect this team or program would have to have a serious ax to grind.
Great article BP!
You've got an awesome team and program.  If I had to bet against you this week, I wouldn't take less than 13 1/2 points! But I'm betting you'll get it done. ;)

Some thawbservations....

It's gotta be tough being on the road and going to other schools that do their own thing after games. Do you do anything but complain?
No kidding!  Four months ago we weren't supposed to win our conference!  We ended up a couple plays away from playing for a National Championship!  How 'bout a little love for a group of guys who played their guts out all year, and by all expectations, overachieved!  Take a Valium!

So they chanted...I don't really see what the big deal it about the UWW chant.  It was a little repetitive but harmless.

The PA blasting after post game did make it impossible to hear anyone from Linfield talk after the game but sometimes when you're up in the pressbox you may not realize that you might be drowning out the folks on the field.  Our PA guy (who is top shelf) did that after the first home game and all it took was a note to wait to give his spiel until after the team breaks.  I don't think it was intentional by the UWW folks at all.

However, the one thing I did hate was that damn cannon.  No matter how much I readied myself it still made me jump a little.  That sucker is LOUD.

When I lived in Florida, the Pasco Pirates had a cannon on the field past the end zone, I started wearing ear plugs after the season opener.

Because the cannon guy has to haul the cannon up that hillside during the playoffs he has tended to use a mortar rather than the cannon.  But this year we've used the cannon because we didn't feel that the mortar was loud enough.  :D

Thanks 6t. I appreciate your words and your congratulations. It would be AWESOME if this group of guys could get it done next week. But, as in the case of Linfield, the success of the season does not ride on one week. The backers of both programs should be REALLY PROUD of what their teams have accomplished. It's been a special year in so many ways.

I did not mind the cannon touch and I was not braced every time - not much  :) - it went off.

The chant was what is called obscene. Hidden in obscurity by a crowd.

The other aspect of this game that was impressive was the physicality of the Cats, despite the size advantage of the Warhawks.

Interestingly the offensive lines of both teams had the size advantage over the defensive lines.  Using the height/weight figures listed on the rosters posted on each team's website the WHITEWATER offensive line averaged 6'2"  271lbs and Linfield's defensive line averaged 6'2"  254 lbs.  Linfield's offensive line averaged 6'2"  283lbs to WHITEWATER'S defensive front averaging 6'2"  251lbs.

Actually, I don't think that's interesting at all. That is just standard football. According to your research there was 15-30 pound difference between the lines, I'd say that is pretty typical. What would be interesting is if one team's defensive line outweighed the others offensive line.

More like some sour grapes...

Congrats Cats on a great season, nothing to hang your heads about. You did the depth of the West region proud!

My point was that I don't think the WARHAWKS enjoyed as significant of a size difference as the poster suggested.

This poster may have wrong, that was my perception from the sidelines comparing the Warhawk O-Line and the Cats D-Line. Maybe I need my eyes checked.

Sleeping on 'em. Gonna see if I can make wine out of sour grapes.

I slept on 'em.

Sports cliches are sports cliches, hazzben.  I anticipated that vocal response.
Truths are truths.
I heard from other posters from other teams Pat. It went on before I heard it - a "U dub dub" poster stated it did.  Appears if you heard it it does not bother you.
Here's another good old college prank! Let's all blow up prophylactics and let the wind carry them all over the stadium!

Riddle me this, Patman...am I so disturbed I got it wrong that the NCAA likes that sorry little 10 minute grace period at the end of one of their playoffs games? (excepting those with access passes)

Pat Coleman

I am not those people rushing the field were media asking questions of players or coaches in violation of the 10-minute cooling off period.

snoop dawg

The one thing I have admired about Linfield is that the posters/fans accept winning and losing the same way, with class.  This was obviously a tough loss because you were so close to victory.  Yet, other than a complaint about a cheer from the other team, there was not one instance of finger pointing, complaining about refs etc.  I appreciate when fans are loyal and stick by their team through good and bad seasons.  This was a great season for Linfield, I hope your players can put aside the loss and realize that. Im sure their loyal fans will make it a lot easier for them to do so.

Congrats Cats.
