And/or finding someone from the LINFIELD program to defect and coach the team.   :D

ugh...now that would really be interesting and not in a good way.  Wow...it was just a couple of year's ago when the 'Cats were looking at only 6 D3 games on their schedule before we resigned with HSU...now we're looking at the possibility of only having one non-conference game a year due to 8 conference contests.  Pretty wild.

With Pacific and G.F. both coming on board it has to make recruiting for Linfield , L.C. and Willamette somewhat tougher having to share the talent pool !

That will force the SCIAC teams to scramble for a game.

I hear Haskell's is always looking to make a return trip back out to SoCal.

CalCat,

That's the rub....you get another VERY close game and save some nice cash with travel but you have another team to work against in recruiting.  I'm not too worried about that...Linfield had OIT and Pacific also in the mix during the 80's and the 'Cats seemed to land some good talent back then too.  ;)

Looking forward to a ULV win over Linfield in the fall.

Wouldn't worry about ULV over Linfield...might want to figure out where to get $13 mil and a new President...maybe Haskell can give you guys a loan...those thing tend to filter down to the Athletic Department :'(

CalCat,

No worries at all as Dr. James Appleton (UR President 1987-2005) was just named interim President. He will right the ship until the right replacement can be found. Also, he has been and always will be a major supporter of collegiate athletics.

Wow.  http://www.pe.com/localnews/inland/stories/PE_News_Local_N_nredprez17.366a0f0.html

In all seriousness...I hope Redlands can successfully navigate these uncertain times and come out for the better on the other end.  As much as I LOVE giving it to the Redlands football program on the board I hate reading stories like this about any university/college.

It's still pretty rough out there and I think a number of colleges are having hard questions to answer right now.  Best of luck to Redlands.

RFB:  I am sure Redlands will figure it out and I think its a shame your former President took the hit but that is what happens.  Appleton I am sure will still be supportive but athletics along with other departments will be asked to share the burden until they can balance the budget...maybe Arnold will help :P

? ???

This is from the George Fox web-site.  I don't understand it.

The addition of football will make George Fox University one of only three Christian colleges on the West Coast to sponsor a football program. Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) and Whitworth University (Wash.) are the other two football-playing members of the 105-member Council for Christian Colleges and Universities on the West Coast.

Yeah - being a Pacific Lutheran grad myself - that stuck me as odd when I first read it.  So I Googled the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities to learn a little more.  I won't try to re-hash it all here - but there was quite a bit about their "association of intentionally Christian" schools and their shared mission to "advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help our institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth."

While PLU is still very much affilated with the Lutheran Church (and has chapel services, campus pasters, etc.), I think the education provided is more mainstream and secular.  My professors certainly didn't teach the 'biblical truth' in class like some at these schools might.  There are just over a hundred member schools (not on the West Coast, but overall).  So clearly there are a lot more schools with 'Christian' affilations that aren't a part of this group.  I only saw two in IA, for example, Northwestern and Dordt. I think Bethel was the only MIAC school.

To me it comes off as GFU just branding the school and program to a segment of potential students.  It did come off as a little different and could be possibly viewed as passive aggressive towards the other NWC members but at least they didn't include that Fox has been undefeated in football since 1968.   ::)

BTW...ADvantage Catdome has two cool new pieces up:  Former 'Cat QB has the Ultimate Football Weekend & Cutting Room Floor: Linfield vs L&C

There's also a difference in student life at George Fox.  My girlfriend transferred to Willamette from GFU our sophomore year.  Chapel services aren't optional - they're mandatory.  As in, you have to swipe your student ID card upon entering the auditorium/chapel and there are consequences if you don't attend enough times.  Students also sign a "values contract" upon admission (no alcohol, etc.), and there are other restrictions as well: no coed dorms, no person of the opposite sex allowed in your room with the door closed, no men allowed in the women's dorms (and vice versa) after 10:00 p.m. ... you get the idea.

This is all in addition to d-train's accurate point about education.

I remember a basketball game last year when GFU beat Willamette in Salem - an unexpected loss to be sure, and us students were all kind of stunned.  As the clock wound down, a group of 30 Fox students who'd come down from Newberg started chanting "God still loves you!" at us.  I don't think students from PLU would do that (though I could be wrong), so that's where I see the difference.
