I NEED AN EDUCATION!
Our recent chat-o-rama about Menlo gives me a recuring headache about a question that has burned long enough in my head...it begins to hurt!

There are too many variables that factor into a particular school being in a particular Division, affiliation etc.
D1 Schools always seem to be big, then subset a, aa, aaa come into play.

Then there's D2, D3, NAIA....
Some schools have multi affiliations and in more than one sport.
What gives??  How are these determinations made?  Are there criteria that are set in stone...like school enrollment numbers.  How about the number of athletes that a particular sport at a particular school can muster...year over year?
Is there geography involved?
Is it something that can be explained in terms that a regular guy like myself can figure? ???

After reading all the explanations to Mac's question I got a headache. ??? I'm going to simplify and narrow my focus to the following: The score of Linfield's last game and who do they play next. :D

And now for something completely different. My wife and I are celebrating our 37th Wedding Anniversary today. :)

Congrats R&P!  Make sure you go out somewhere nice tonight to celebrate.  That's a great milestone.

Yes, congratulations.  IMHO anyone past the 7 year itch (a legal milestone in California ) is to be congratulated.

(CalCat, et. al., who can show up at Chapman this weekend?)

Catdomealumni.com Video of the Week: 2009 Linfield at Whitworth

2009 Linfield at Whitworth

next week: 2009 Lewis & Clark

ADvantage Catdome = Is Menlo staying, going, or gone?

wildcat11:
Another wildcat11 touchdown! You did an excellent job on the video. I really liked the two shot angles you had on some of the plays. The ground level and from above worked well. Great camera work once again. The "inside the huddle" with Coach Hire was really cool. Thanks for posting the videos. + k for you! ;)

D O.C. : I through some karma your way also. ;)

From what I hear it sounds like things have been going well so far and it sounds like the team is having fun and working hard.  I'm going to be out there tonight to work on some stuff for the blog and shoot video.  I should have an update tomorrow.

"The remainder of the schedule includes five NWC games and a non-conference matchup against Menlo College, which has been a member of the NWC in football only, but is leaving the league this year. " Wow - there's another significant piece of evidence. I guess Menlo really didn't want to get dumped, eh? Pre-empt the break-up.

I guess it's always better to do the dumping than getting dumped. I think we saw this coming but I'm a little surprised that it happened sooner rather than later.

B-Press, it's an ambitious schedule but the payoff can be huge if you make it through unscathed.  The Bearcats do have a Bye before Linfield so that's an edge right there.

I checked the schedule. Four road games in a row. Linfield faced the same thing last year. First a home game and then away for four.

Speaking of away games. I know it's early, but anyone traveling to California for either or both of the games?
I hope to be there.

Is it football season yet?

Anyone need hotel reccomendations let me know - my family stayed in just about every hotel in the area over the years and some are much better than others.

I heard the Cats are training with the loud speaker on to prepare for the intense nature of the Purple PIT. FYI there will be no flip flops, tank tops, or cold ones - this is serious football country - not like the tame and quiet charming little abode up in Oregon.  :D ;D

We are headed south for both games... looking forward to soaking up the sun!  :-)

I've lived in Southern California a long time now and September in my opinion is the best month for weather. Should be between 75-85 degrees, great conditions for some football.

A couple of weeks ago I posted up some opinion articles for some Pacific students crying about the return of football and how it's going to ruin the college.

Someone at Pacific returned the volley with a point-by-point breakdown on why Football will be good for Pacific.
