Thanks to Lori for today's chuckle.

I enjoyed her comment that football giving the school a shot in the arm means that the players use steroids. Yeah, that's code.

And how can she say football isn't romantic? Players get to slap each other on the butt and hold hands in the huddle.

She reminds me of the person who was interviewed in an article last year who said that football players would ruin the genteel atmosphere of the Pacific campus, slobbering Neanderthals that they are.
Ok...I finally get it...An elitist personna does not find itself particularly welcome in the football huddle, (Neanderthals you know!).  Stick your pinky out in there and it becomes an Hors' d Ovary(sp); sorry, I mean snack!

I'm sorry...the sardonic possibilities overwelmed my mature sensibilities.  This thing with Lori was too much to ignor on so many levels.  As an adult...I appologize; otherwise, as a caveman...well...there you go!

I read Lori's rant and the headline "Sophomore killed in kiln explosion" comes to mind. Wasn't that classic filmed nearby???

Outstanding points cawdad.

5 weeks to Puget Sound at Oxy.

Personally, I hope that Oxy replaces Menlo with another NWC school for 2011.

Sabretooth Tiger:

Interesting topic you may just have created. Two NW Conference schools are playng each other twice this year. And with Menlo appearing to drop out of the picture, how will the Southern California,  and a few NWC, schools replace that
game when you consider all the budget cut backs going on? Travel more, or less?

Sabretooth Tiger

Budget questions going forward will be interesting . . . no road trips for the Tigers this year absent a playoff berth, but I don't think that was driven by any $$ factors at Oxy.

Now that Menlo's out of the NWC and possibly out of DIII, I think a regional opponent is an important factor for all right?

Oxy used to have Trinity, Texas on a home/away agreement (years ago) . . . now that we have our new Dean of the College from Trinity I suppose that could possibly revive . . . but personally, I'd rather travel to WA/OR . . . if we played Whitworth it would give me an excuse to go back to Klinkerdaggers.

Puget Sound is the closest NWC team to Seattle right?  At least we can look forward to that in '11.

La Verne, Whittier and Chapman are all playing Azusa Pacific this year, which I am assuming are home and home contracts. It will be interesting to see if more SCIAC schools and Chapman will replace Menlo with AP and/or save travel costs by replacing games with the NWC (and Menlo)  after their home and home series are up with those teams. The NWC probably won't have a problem with the addition of two teams. I will be curiously watching the Chapman and SCIAC schedules for next year to see if costs are going to become an important criteria to scheduling.

The SCIAC's strength of schedule would be improved if Oxy and/or Redlands, along with Cal Lu, were to take a shot at Linfield. Those would be good games to watch. It will be interesting to see how Linfield replaces Menlo, if at all.

I haven't talked with anyone at the program about what the thinking is but my feeling is that since Menlo is back in the NAIA why put the money into a flight when you can just go back to a traditional rival in SOU and save the cash on travel?

I understand SOU will be playing Menlo twice this season(SOU has a ten game schedule), don't know about 2011 and 2012. If the Raiders can't fit Linfield on their schedule those years, who do you think the Wildcats would turn to within driving distance for a home and home series? Is Western Oregon a possibility? I noticed Eastern Oregon is playing 11 games this season, ten in conference, with the opener against SOU as the Mountaineers only non-league game.

NAIA Simon Fraser has a ten game schedule this year as well, playing WOU twice, along with Humboldt, CW, and Dixie State. The Clan also play SOU and University of British Columbia to round out their schedule. Simon Fraser is roughly a seven hour drive from McMinnville.

D O.C.

Caldwell is 441 miles from McMinnville going up the Gorge. Personally I push it once out of populace centers - say - 82 to 84. Going down John Day way pretty much the same. 6 hours.   ;)

I've been driving around the Old Dominion this week and even though it's 230 miles from Bridgeport U to Wesley -for instance - it's a 6 hr drive because of the population density AND lack of driving common sense by the locals.  8-)

I 5 to Ashland from LINFIELD, Willamette, or Lewis and Clark is a great 285 mile drive in, oh, 4 hours.

GHC....TJ used to do it 3 in that Superbird.  ;D  I would not go through that again.

I'm guessing the Cats take a plane flight to Southern California before they do a 7 hour bus ride to an  NAIA school.  NAIA schools just don't help the Cats when the playoffs hit.  The Cats are far better to play D3 competitors in the West or South Regions than to play an NAIA school.
LEAVE NO DOUBT

From what I have been told, Linfield has aggressively tried to schedule several Southern California schools. My hats off to them for continuing to try and schedule D3 teams. That will be one of the key factors in their continued high rankings. Good teams want to play other good teams and not pad the schedule for the sake of a win.

Need to find SCIAC schools willing to tango and if Linfield continues to turn out seasons like it did last year then I suspect it will be tough to find SCIAC schools willing to dance.  Props to CLU and LaVerne for the next two years.  Much appreciated!!!!
