My professional opinion being that Drew Fisher DID NOT commit a personal foul. I saw his helmet hit the runners shoulder pads -  only to slide up into the runner's helmet. So make that 5 for 35.[/i]

One of the things we'll miss next year after CLU moves into its new football stadium (should we play them in Cali again) will be the opportunity to sit/stand no more than 10 feet behind the team and coaches. Regarding the penalty on Drew Fisher, I happened to be standing about that distance away from Coach Smith when the Ref came over to explain the penalty. The Ref said the foul was that Fisher gave a forearm smash upside the shoulder/head area as part of the hit.

I agree with D O.C. that it was NOT a helmet to helmet hit...but then I didn't see the forearm smash either...old eyes, you know.

Home sweet home. 1730hrs. Went 101 north from thousand oaks then across to I-5. Nice drive up 101 along the coast. But 70miles longer then just going I-5 home from L.A. Great trip all-in-all. Can't forget the Dinner with my friends from Great Gridley. The Wife and I had a wonderful time. BJ's is good.

After reading everybody's comments about the game it comes down to the turnovers. The whole aspect of the game changes when you give the ball up 5 times. And one of them was a Pick-six. Credit to Cal Lu defensive. They played well. Enough said.

Two weeks we do it agian. I might fly this time. If it cost about the same. Morning flight down and evening flight home. We will see. See all you posters and Cat lovers in La Vern.

PPJ,

Yeah, I 100% agree with you and the others about turning the ball over.  A key reason why the 'Cats played so great last year is that we led DIII in turnover margin and  yesterday turnovers along with the 2nd half TOP and some poor defensive positioning/tackling was a killer.  However, credit CLU for getting themselves together and turning the tide.  It sucked that we lost but the 'Cats main goals for the season are more than attainable...it's just the margin for error is now a little smaller.  The 'Cats will be getting back to the drawing board, putting in the hard work and will be expecting to win every time out.

Tough day overall for the NWC top dogs...thought WU would be able to get over on HSU but as Linfield knows (twice) winning at Abilene isn't easy and it looks SOU is going to be a hell of a game with the Raiders looking solid at 2-0.  Might make the trip to Salem next weekend.

Great effort Bearcats.  One game a season does not make.  Schoettgen was great as was Pineda.  The aerial game kept the Bearcats in the game. Not like the dark days in the past when the Bearcats were one-dimensional and relied on the ground game almost exclusively.  When the run was stopped, they did not have an answer.   Whatever the 'Boys did to stop the ground fly on Saturday, the Bearcat think tank needs to come up with some answers.

GO BEARCATS!

Just got home from the trip to Stevens Point and Abilene and want to get a few thoughts down about the Hardin Simmons game.  As you Wildcat fans know there's nothing like actually seeing the game in person.  It's much better than listening to it or even watching on a video feed (not that I don't appreciate them when I can't be at the games).  So, I'm really glad I got the chance to go.

Hardin Simmons played a very good, smart game so congrats to them.  The Bearcats didn't bring their best game, for whatever reason.  Too many mistakes, avoidable penalties (play clock violation for instance), dropped passes that were right in the pass catchers' hands.  These kept WU playing catch up the whole game.  Given that the stats were so close, I have to believe (being completely unbiased  ;)) that had the Bearcats not hurt themselves the game could have had a different outcome.  But they did hurt themselves and HSU outplayed WU.

All of these are fixable and I am sure there'll be a lot of work to do just that this week.  Southern Oregon is going to be another test in a very ambitious early season schedule.  It's going to be great to finally be at home.

A couple examples of the "color" you have to be at the game to know about:  Willamette having to scramble, before the game started, to mask the color of their gloves because some of their gloves matched those being worn by HSU.  I had never heard of a rule like that but I'm no expert.  Then the refs warned the HSU crowd tht whomever was blowing a whistle was interfering with the game and had to stop.  We could clearly hear the whistle on the visitors' side of the field during Willamette's possessions.  Some fans don't think about the possible damage they could do to their own team.

I was really proud of the Bearcat team for the way they turned it on and won the game at Stevens Point and also of the way they fought to the very end at HSU.

agreed... turnovers were nonexistent last year.... but commonplace the previous three years... they will get it dialed in....

btw the "fumble" on the KO return wasn't a fumble... the ground can't cause a fumble... i'm just saying...

Try callling plays when they are beating on oil drums! My son told me afterwards they (the oline) absolutely could not hear the qb's calls before the snap. Even though they practice going on the silent count (I think that's what's it called) it was still annoying to hear those drums. But, back then the refs did nothing to stop it.

The CLU - Linfield game was a very fun, exciting albeit disappointing game. It was what you would expect of a game between two top 25 teams. I have been to Mount Clef twice now and the atmosphere was great there both times. I wonder what it will be like in the new stadium.

A couple of thoughts. The heat seemed to get to the Cats D as the game progressed. It also didn't help that they were constantly chasing Mosier. What a great replacement for Stuart by CLU. But the big hit that wasn't a penalty but resulted in one really seemed to take the air out of the Cats sails.

Use the bye week well and come back with a vengance.

GO CATS!!!!

From the UPS - Oxy game. The Loggers came out pumped up and that resulted in a TD and the lead at the start of the game. But Oxy was the much better team mixing the run and pass well. The Tigers had to settle for field goals on several occasions or the score could have been wose for UPS.

The Loggers seemed very one dimensional with their passing game. Of course they were playing catch up most of the game. When they did mix the run a bit was when they moved the ball, yet often would go a couple of series without a run it seemed.

It did not help that the defense was on the field 75% of the time in the first half owing to turnovers. UPS' defense actually played well, and the field goal tries came after defensive stops, but you can't spend that much time on the field. The Loggers have a lot of work to do - a bye week hopefully will help, with Whittier coming up at home on the 25th.

Pregame, there was a similar situation at Cal Luthern. The ref came over to Linfield's equipment manager (Mac Farag) and gave him the numbers of three Cat players who were wearing black gloves...said they had to be changed. The ref said that all gloves...on both teams... had to be gray. Apparently, he meant that the piece of glove covering the outside/top of the hand had to be gray...because many players had gloves that were predominently black or white with only the topside of the glove being gray...and that did not draw the ref's attention.

Strange how the glove situation was apparently treated differently in the two games. Is there an NCAA rule regarding this? ???
