RE L&C....Throw out the loss to Pomona.  That was one terrible performance and snowballed into a nightmare. The defense has actually improved a lot with the D Line really working hard resulting in much better play. They are playing the run real tough now. The LB unit is the heart of the defense. The DB's are getting better every game also. Now I am not saying they are Linfield or Williamette level by any means but they have improved a ton. Those are two elite D3 programs with deep benches. Our offense is solid with an outstanding QB-Welch, RB Mayes, Keller and a solid possession rec.in Evans. They are also working Lovincey into the lineup. He is a deep threat and a possible impact player as a freshman who should be on the field every play in the coming weeks. The O line might be doing the best job as a unit and getting overlooked for their performance.  all in all, they are fun to watch and I think the whole league should appreciate their improvement as it makes for better games and a better league top to bottom.  We will really see where they are at against Menlo this week. I hope every team has an injury free weekend.

I forgot to mention Logan Kotzian kick returner and corner. Best big play guy after Welch.

Welcome to the board PioDad.  Great to have some L&C insight.
Good luck to L&C this weekend.  A win over Menlo would be a huge step in the right direction.

Good to see a couple of Pio posters coming on.  Please stick with us.

My thoughts (fwiw) after 4 weeks:

While I hold out hope that the Lutes have clawed their way back to the top of the conference there is really only one game that would make one believe that, that being the PLU win over CLU.  The other two wins are a not very impressive road win over a historically lower tier MIAC squad and a squeaker victory over a lower tier NWC team that is hoping they are on the rebound but whose other games this year are not impressive.  The only real reason even the CLU win looks good is that CLU somehow managed to beat Linfield.  So, while I fully support my Lutes they are not a dominating team at this point.

On the other hand maybe we just don't play well on the road (at Hamline and at UPS) and are actually really good, especially at home (CLU).  Lucky for us, all the tough conference games are at home this year (Whitworth, Linfield, and Willamette).

PLU usually is tough at home -- seems that they always have been.   Definitely a team to watch out for!

+K for the kind words about WU this week, piodad.   Still wondering what happened last Saturday . . .   Bad nightmare?  Someone wake me up!

Congrats to L&C for their start to the season and to Coach Sulages and his staff for what they've done with the program in the past few years. A win over Menlo would be awesome. Another welcome to the Pio posters.

I expect that Pacific will have a decent team in a couple years, and with UPS and L&C improving. the NWC is going to be lots of fun!

Glad you made it home safely, PPJ. It was good to see #28 back in action.
Two words:  THE STREAK

D O.C.

OK...so they left and we do not want to talk about them, just play them, but, go figure on Menlo.
Confounding as the NWC teams. They beat Chapman, Occidental, Southern Oregon, naturally lose to Humboldt and then Whitworth whacks 'em.
Wouldn't they just love to put the NWC in a spin by a big win down the line?

Sure they would---but at least it will have no affect on the conference standings or autobid.
Go Cats!

Gig Harbor Cat

Starting to get ready for the arrival of the Catdome nation  in Tacoma to TCB with the Loggers.
I will be over by the baseball field--Blue Expedition--Cat Flag--Ole blue--and some munchies.  they make you set up tailgate action on the grass by the baseball field, so that is where I will be.  Stop by, Longies are in order, or bring your own stuff.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Catdome North.
Current long range forcast calls for 58 degrees and 60% chance of showers.  I will get you all updates as we go.

Thats all I got !!

Know this is sudden but the 'Cats are trying to raise money this week to present to UPS defensive back, Corey Obungen, who was paralyzed this summer in a diving accident in Hawaii.  Corey is a former HS teammate with current 'Cat backup QB and baseball star, Cole Bixenman.

The funds will go towards offsetting medical cost and rehab.  A worthy cause and I know the 'Cats can help.  Heck, even if you're not a 'Cat you can pitch in and help out Corey.  The release below has the information in how you can donate to Linfield or directly to a fund set up for Corey.

11, it is so great that Cat supporters are rallying to support Corey Obungen. He is a great kid, admired by UPS players and parents alike. Thanks so much for your efforts.

Thanks Ida but it was Coach Smith that asked that we put the word out.  It's all the staff and players that put this in motion.  Just a cool thing to see and hope the effort will have a positive effect for one of the NWC's own.

You don't really want a rematch with the Catdome, do you?  Two lucky days in a row against the Cats is not a bet one should take on. Better treasure that victory while you've got the chance:)
Don't forget your booties cause it's cold out there!

Aberrations do happen.....  ;D

Talk about a different sort of season.....The Cats start off with an aberration, L&C is winning ball games, PLU stuffs the CLU and is undefeated, PU is back and UPS is playing like they are for real...The Cats make it look easy in a game everyone thought was gonna go down to the wire....and Whitworth....well they're still the Rats.
