idalogger, the boys in blue are a surprising 4-2 right now. But were really spanked in the 2 losses including the one in the pic.

Thanks, 54. Actually my son is a junior and a 2 year starter. I am tired of us competing with the weaker teams and getting blown out by the Willamettes and Linfields of the world, not to speak of Oxy and Whitewater. Linfield believes they can win, plays harder, executes, and wins.

As for that play, I watched 11's video then watched the hudl version. Great play by Boehme where we left the whole left side of the field open, and he took advantage of it. Clear hold by the right tackle, who has his arms outside of the chest and a great grip on the jersey - does it several times so the ref can see it, I guess. But, I really don't care. We won't get those calls until we are competitive.

I am headed to Salem for the next game against the Bearcats, who were clearly pissed off up in Forest Grove. BCP, let me know if you'll be there. It would be nice to see you again.

Pissed off?  What do you mean?

Lutes climb into the top 25.  FWIW.  The only thing that really matters is winning the conference since we all know the powers that be won't be taking an extra team from the Far West.

I think the Bearcats were definitely pissed off - as they should have been after that embarrassing loss in McMinnville.  What was nice to see was that it was a controlled anger: no personal fouls or cheap shots, just cold, calculating execution.  I do think Speck did everything he could to keep the score down: Willamette used five quarterbacks, three kickers, and had 22 players carried the ball.  But there's no doubt that our goal was to put up a lot of points, and we did.

Seriously, it's hard NOT to score when the opposing team gets down to the 2, and then turns the ball over.   It was nice to see some offense for a change, but I agree that they didn't intentionally run up the score.

The post is video of Boehme hurdling over a UPS DB at the 3 yard line for a TD.  Incredible run.

GREAT Capture 11!!

GO CATS!!

Thanks CatDat!  Thought you would like that.  :)

I agree with BCP and bbaddict...if Willamette wanted to run up the score they probably could have hit triple digits against Pacific....

Awesome, tell him to keep it up. I think the team is performing relatively well all things considered. Not to start judging too early, but do you think he's seen a difference in the team since the new coach? I heard they accepted the change relatively well and with some enthusiams, just thought i'd see what the players thought.

54, I only know for one player, who says that Thomas has brought organization and the knowledge of what it takes to win to the Logger program. Clearly, it's going to take a while, but we like where he is headed.

BCP, that's one of the things I do like about the Northwest Conference. The coaches do their level best to treat each team they play with respect. Truthfully, the game in Tacoma Saturday could have been a lot worse, but the 4th quarter featured reserves playing for both teams. UPS' former coach would have kept the starters in till the bitter end in a 6 touchdown loss.

It's Monday. Only 5 days til NWC football!

that's great to hear. I have noticed some changes that are promising as well, but just wanted to get a new angle on it.

Some additional thoughts on the Pacific game:

FightBearcats is right.  Pacific looked like a disciplined, well-coached team ... of freshmen.  By my count, the Boxers started nine freshmen and two juniors on offense, with nine freshmen, one sophomore, and one senior on defense.  As one of their fans told me on my bus ride back to Hillsboro, "Your guys were A LOT bigger than us."  That pretty much sums up the game.  What was really neat to see was the way Pacific celebrated when they scored their touchdown.  You'd have thought they'd just won the game.  That really impressed me.

Things that impressed me about Willamette: no turnovers, no silly mistakes, no injuries.  Also, Ryan Whitcomb looked sharp in extended playing time, even completing a couple of passes.

Thing that didn't impress me: Willamette's flankers.  The fly sweep just isn't working, and I'm not sure what the problem is.  Chad Pollard seems to have taken a step backward this year, and Lemar Griffin - wildcat11's favorite WU tweeter - doesn't know all the in's and out's of the offense yet.  But I will say this: Lemar is fast.  Like, Merben Woo fast.

Lincoln Park Stadium is nice, though the field is a bit removed from the stands due to the nine-lane track.  Also, the combination of football, soccer, and lacrosse (!) lines is a little confusing, and I think that affected some out-of-bounds calls during the game.  The setting of the stadium (in a city park with other athletic facilities nearby) reminded me a lot of McCulloch.

The game day atmosphere, though, is fantastic.  Pacific seems to be very tailgate-friendly, and there were concessions stands and a beer garden set up outside the stadium.  The community seems to have really embraced the team; heck, the mayor of Forest Grove is the PA guy, and it was really encouraging to be walking around Forest Grove and hear people talking about the game.

One final word of warning: bring earplugs.  The Boxers took a play out of Whitewater's book and actually fire a howitzer when they come onto the field and after they score.  The howitzer is placed behind the visitor's stands and is very, very loud.

idalogger - I will definitely be there on Saturday.  I'll PM you later in the week when I have a better idea of the specifics.

Actually, I un-followed Lamar sometime ago.  He tweets faster more often than I can breath and was clogging up my twitter feed.

We now have a "cannon guy" in the NWC?  Oh boy.... ::)

Sunny? Gosh, with weather that nice Mrs. OldCat and I may have to use some of that sunscreen left over from the LaVerne game. We plan to make-a-break from the Old Folks Home here in Arizona late Thursday night, hop the Greyhound Bus and make it to McMinnville just in time for Homecoming kickoff. See ya'll there.

Go you Wiley Cats!!
