Some additional thoughts on Pacific:

Also, the combination of football, soccer, and lacrosse (!) lines is a little confusing,

The game day atmosphere, though, is fantastic.  Pacific seems to be very tailgate-friendly, and there were concessions stands and a beer garden set up outside the stadium.

One final word of warning: bring earplugs.  The Boxers took a play out of Whitewater's book and actually fire a howitzer when they come onto the field and after they score.  The howitzer is placed behind the visitor's stands and is very, very loud.

BEER GARDEN?
Awesome!

Thumbs down to the extra lines on the field and the cannon.

Great hurdle by Boehme, and when he scores, he walks away like he's going to class.

ADvantage Catdome:  Linfield and Aaron Boehme hurdles over Puget Sound

The post is video of Boehme hurdling over a UPS DB at the 3 yard line for a TD.  Incredible run.

Thanks W11. When I heard the play described over the live broadcast I was hoping you'd get it on video.
Very COOL indeed. Nice reaction by Boehme.

Thanks, 54. Actually my son is a junior and a 2 year starter. I am tired of us competing with the weaker teams and getting blown out by the Willamettes and Linfields of the world, not to speak of Oxy and Whitewater. Linfield believes they can win, plays harder, executes, and wins.

As for that play, I watched 11's video then watched the hudl version. Great play by Boehme where we left the whole left side of the field open, and he took advantage of it. Clear hold by the right tackle, who has his arms outside of the chest and a great grip on the jersey - does it several times so the ref can see it, I guess. But, I really don't care. We won't get those calls until we are competitive.

I am headed to Salem for the next game against the Bearcats, who were clearly pissed off up in Forest Grove. BCP, let me know if you'll be there. It would be nice to see you again.

Congratulations on your son being a two year starter. Bad calls are just that-bad calls. They feel the same whether your team is 5-0 or 0-5.
As the father of a former Linfield player I assure you I hated bad calls as much as you. Since my son was an offensive lineman I know holding calls could be called every play (although he never held in his career :D ). As he used to tell me, "It's only holding if you get caught." Enjoy and have fun watching your son play, it'll be over way too soon.

Thanks Red and Purple-

I guess that's part of the urgency. Since he's a junior, I'd like to see him have a chance to experience winning. Maybe it's wishful thinking - I am thinking of revising to "be a part of the program's rebuilding".

I appreciate the insight. I'm going to every game this year and next to get the full experience at every stadium. He plays baseball as well, so I will really get a tour of the NWC!

That's the right choice. My wife and I and others family members traveled to Linfield every weekend we could during his five years playing ball for the Wildcats (he redshirted his freshman year). I attended every game -home and away- during his last year. We wouldn't trade that experience for anything. The folks at the Vineyard Best Western got to know us by sight. We'd walk through the door and they knew who we were.

Win or lose, and yes Linfield lost some games between 2002 and 2006, watching him take the field was a very proud moment for all of us. You get to have that feeling twice over. Your son sounds like a good kid and a talented athlete. I know he will do well having your support. I don't follow UPS much, but if you wish you could send me a private message with his name and number. I'd like to follow his progress also.

From a players persective. It means a great deal to have family at the game. My parents came to nearly every game I played in and that meant a lot to me because of how far they had to travel. You're son may not say it, but trust me it means as much to the players as it does to the parents/family to come. Even more so when the times are a bit tougher.

So go see him play and take him to the Ram afterwards to buy him a burger.

Thanks for speaking up logger54. I gave you some karma. We know our son was very appreciative of our coming up to McMinnville to watch the games. Even though in the early years there were games he didn't get much playing time. Heck, some games he didn't get in at all, he had several All-American type players in front of him on the depth chart, he was grateful we made the trip from Arizona. And whether he played or not we always enjoyed being there. He got more playing time his junior and senior year, especially his "fifth" year. He asked that I never identify myself or him on this site while he was playing football. Don't know if that was a coach's rule or his own choosing. I had to wait until he was finished with football before I could publicly post here on D3 and say, "Hey, that's my boy."

I will be making the trip out to Linfield this Saturday to watch the game with Pacific. Where will the tailgate parties be located and what time do they start? Thanks for your help.

R&P,

I couldn't believe you pulled that off like you did. Maybe others knew, but I had no idea you had a son on the team. I can't imagine that you would have ever embarrassed him, but I admire you for sticking to your son's request.
We have a couple dads of present Linfield players who post and they are all class.

idalogger,
Your son is lucky that you come watch him play. When I was in college my family was able to see only one game a year due to distance. That part is missing for some kids.
The friendships I made in Linfield football are some of the best I have to this day, however, and I hope it is the same for your son, regardless of the record UPS ends up with.

You and logger54 are great additions to the NWC board.

Johnie Red,  Once you find the stadium on your left on Lever St. continue on down the street past all the dorms and buildings < 1/4 mile and you will see all the tailgates in the parking lot on your right. You can't miss it. I'd be there by 11:a.m.  or so and you'll get to meet a lot of people, enjoy some food and  have a good time  before the  1:30 p.m. kick off.

I got your tip jar dude !!
We had a couple of the Island dads drop in on our tailgate at UPS.  They decided to partake an electric longie or two.  One of the dads poured a big glass and then reached in his pocket and tried to give me a $10 bill.  I clarified that the 10 on ole blue doesn't mean a charge but rather indicates a Wildcat season.  The numbers go all of the way back to 03.  At that point I think he adjusted his glasses, smiled and was good to go.

No tip jar at our tailgates  Just Catdome-- Phone it in !!
