Sorry MacQuiz - I fell down on the job this week.  When you have a politically-related job at this time of year ... well, you get the idea.

A double dose will be coming this week though - so fasten your seatbelts!

See you soon. Keep my seats warm.
Off to the Alumni Tailgate on the Scooter.
It's a great day for a Football game.

Solid game for the Bearcats today. Started a little shaky, letting the Loggers stay in the game during the first half. Same 3-man front wasn't getting enough pressure on their quarterback (maybe we just have issues with tall, lanky quarterbacks dressed out in white with the #4  :P). The Loggers kept completing little dump-off screens/ short passes that moved them down the field. A few tackling issues for the Bearcats, but we managed to come out leading 24-21 at half.

2nd half was a completely different story. The Bearcats played up to their level. Terrell Malley took over the game, both on kickoffs and from the tailback position. He simply just couldn't be tackled. Our level of pressure was much higher on the UPS quarterback, and Pineda and Co. sniffed out that little dumpoff screen play of theirs and made those receivers pay with big punishing hits. Blocked punt was just icing on the cake, as were a few well-timed, bone-crushing sacks.

Also nice to see the rebirth of the sweep. Chad Pollard and the rest of the offense have been struggling to get positive yardage on any sort of sweep lately, and today they turned it around. If I recall correctly, at least two of Chad's TDs came on sweeps. Also saw a few nice runs out of Lemar Griffin in garbage time. MAN that guy is quick.

Widing looked a little rough early on, throwing an INT at the goal line on WU's second drive down. Could breathe easier when he got back to what he knows and does best-- the Schoettgen connection. One nice toss-up for Schotty in the back on the endzone where the d-back had no chance. A number of bombs as well. He just always seems to come down with the ball.

Last but not least, it was great having my man Arlin Taylor back on the field. Knee was braced up but he looked on point and played well, getting in on stuffing a few run plays.

One big negative in my mind was the crowd. While our stands were packed, I didn't think we got a whole lot of energy. Could have been the excess of parents not really knowing how to act/cheer (it's parents weekend at WU) but I would love a little more energy, even from the students.

Get at me!

Pat, I was wondering  who did  the Game recap for the Linfield vs, Pacific game today?

I found the headline interesting, don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have the Boxers back on the field. Just found the article  a little funny.

Headine reads....."Long plays Highlight Improved Offensive Day for Pacific"

Pacific ended the day with -18 yards rushing?
The Cats took Boheme out with about 9 or 10 minutes to go in the 2nd Q.
and Simon Lamson, (great 39 yrd run for a T.D ,) but only touched the ball 3 times.

The Cats were on the P,U, 5yrd line with 4 and 1/2 min left on the clock and turned the ball over on downs, 4 plays up the middle gave pacific a gift.
Any way I hope the Q,B the kid from Hawaii is O.K.......P.J. Mnaya showed some promise.

Tux, this is Pacific's press release.  I'm sure Linfield will send theirs in as well.

I don't think this one was football related, but I saw a t-shirt at the airport in Phoenix that read, "It's Willamette.. Damn it!"

If the shirt was black, I've got $20 on that being my buddy Tom Ackerman, fellow history major and the only person in my class from Phoenix.  Those are the official class of 2010 t-shirts, and I've got one too.

Go Bearcats!  We're Everywhere!

Roger That!

WU Pride! BCP, I wish I coulda gotten my hands on one of those shirts...I'm stuck with a regular old GoldRush and Bearcat Bench shirts....   :-\

Clear skies, sunny and 62, PERFECT football conditions slated for todays game here in Salem! Asked around campus, should be a great crowd on hand to watch The Fly run all over UPS!

Went to the Midnight Madness Showcase for WU men's and women's basketball. It's probably well known by all you posters, but Terrell Malley is a helluva two-sport athlete. Watching him (at 5'11") routinely throw it down gets me jittery for the bball season. However, another great two-sport athlete, Scott Schoettgen wasn't in attendence, and wasn't announced during player introductions. Wasn't sure if or why he isn't playing this season, but a downer regardless. I'll hang around the endzone (where he'll likely be all day today) and ask him about it  ;D

Everybody do the Bearcat Rumble!

Yes, the shirt was black with white lettering. Sorry BCP, you would lose the bet, the wearer was a female and she seemed to be a little inebriated. She was boarding the plane, not the one I was waiting for, and I didn't get a chance to have a long conversation with her.

Yeah, the Pacific SID is just trying to put a positive spin on his team getting manhandled (which everyone expected).  Good to see over 80 Wildcats get action today against Pacific.  Linfield uncorked some incredible hits today....looking forward to an old fashion Linfield/PLU showdown.

Great weekend PPJ,
Met all of the guys for the BWC and yes we won it again at 14 under.  Hooking up with the guys once a year It was an awesome day.  The older we get the greater we were !!!
++ tailgate action today,  Decided to cut it short and headed north after the half.  Other big action around the house was the preparation for the arrival of Wildcat 14.  Pretty exciting stuff for sure.

See all of you up here for the Lute game..   Luck the Flutes baby !!!

GHC  out

I felt PLU and Menlo were pretty evenly matched. Menlo bigger and PLU quicker. The real difference in the game were two pass plays. A 35 yd. Rasmussen to Ford TD pass with 5 seconds left in the first half and a 38 yard Rasmussen to Moog pass in the 4th qtr to seal the win. Moog made this one happen by breaking several tackles as he ran probably 60 to 70 yards to gain the 38 and the TD. The Lutes run the ball just enough to keep you honest but use the short slant and out passes to get most of their yards. The defense gave up yards but basically was bend but don't break and held when they needed to. Menlo didn't seem to have any big play guys or speed on their offense so it will be interesting to see how the Lutes handle that type of offense against Linfield and Willamette.

great photos Cawcdad....

Thanks for the recap.  Linfield is going to be supremely tough and hasn't gone our way in way in a long time.  I am looking forward to the game.  I think PLU will certainly be an underdog and we will see if they can conjur up some emal magic to get by Linfield.
GO FOR TWO

These two post got me to wondering about something. After every game I check the stats of my favorite team, Linfield of course, and then I'll look at the recap of some of the other teams also. What I was wondering was who puts together all the stats? And how do they do it so quickly? Anyway, I would like to thank those tireless "stat gurus' who keep the rest of us informed and updated each week. If I could give you karma I would. Keep up the good work and THANK YOU once again.

I believe there is this contraption called a computer that the stats get entered into and this thing apparently formats the stats into nice rows and columns which make it easier for us to read ;)  (but still--thanks to the guy that puts the stats into the computer each play and then uploads them to the web!) :) :) :)
