In most of the other sports there is a bid that needs to be completed. Maybe Pat or someone that has been around for a long time can advise as to what the process is for football playoffs. Especially if someone's field does not meet minimum NCAA standards. I know the NCAA has their fingers in the money pool.

A few years back Cal Lu hosted a first round baseball playoff (2 teams) series
at Moorpark College because their field did not qualify.
There is an NCAA handbook on this--basically you have to bid to host and have to provide an acceptable facility, then top scedes get priority.  Doesn't say anything about having to be an "in conference" venue.

The 2009 handbook for playoffs can be found via google by entering "ncaa division 3 playoffs handbook"

To summarize, locations are awarded to the highest seed if they meet certain criteria (otherwise the next school will be awarded the bid):
>quality and availability of facility
>geography
>seeding
>attendance history.....necessary to assure fiscal responsibility
>team(s) must bid

I am not able to provide the direct link, but it does explain the process and all other guides in very understandable language.

Hope this helps those that are questioniing the process.

I am going to venture the POV that Pacific WILL impact NWC recruiting simply because of that Hawaiian connection.

Here's something to take your mind off bad calls and the premature playoffs.

Thanks coco. Your post did not go unnoticed. It brought back the memory of when Ray Lions got hit. I was at the game that day and it is always a scary moment when a player goes down. My best to Chris and his family.

This is by far my biggest fear.  So glad to read that he appears to be doing better.

"Terry Norton, Chris' father, wrote Monday that the family was initially told Chris had only a 3 percent chance of regaining any function from his neck down, but was able to wiggle his arms hours after the surgery. "

Lute week!  What a great showdown!
Lute week has always been huge, but seems that it hasn't had this big of playoff implications since the early 2000's.  When was the last time the Lutes were in the playoffs?

I'd like to hear the posters opinions of the top 3 Lute Linfied matchups.  Fire away!

Gig Harbor Cat

#1 on the list is their WR  #14 Ford,  without a doubt the fastest player on the field.  This kid can flat fly-- We need to take him out of the game via coverage or by QB pressure.

In 2001.  PLU, Whitworth, and Linfield tied for the NWC title.  PLU and Whitworth went to the playoffs.

I don't remember the exact year- mid 90's??? Linfield/PLU at the Tacoma Dome. Lutes get an extra play after an iffy penalty call and then score on a long Weekly pass to win. I'm not bitter after all this time- it still makes me twitch at night.

My VERY favorite was a playoff game at the CATDOME. Gary McGarvie runs back the opening kickoff for a score. Cats win and advance! We got season tickets after sitting on the temporary bleachers in the end zone. So cold that the pants froze.

He's the one caught the TD pass at the end of the first half. I don't know when I've seen somebody so wide open and alone.

I remember the 2000 matchup as quite a great game.  The Lutes were highly ranked after winning the National Championship and I don't believe the Cats were ranked (not sure) and we beat them at the FrostyDome.  This was also the game I believe when Alex Rixs had 3 huge high lite reel hits (still in WC11's big hits features).
It really put the momentum back in the Cats and started the run for the next 6 years (minus a couple blimps the next season, including a loss to PLU).

The Streak Linfield is within one victory of its 55th consecutive winning season..the 'Cats can extend the program's own all-divisions record  by winning at least one of their remaining four scheduled games...Linfield's last losing season was in 1955...the streak of winning seasons spans six decades and the terms of 12 U.S. presidents...PLU ranks 12th on the all-time consecutive winning seasons list with 36 campaigns of plus-.500 records stretching from 1969 until 2004.

It would be sweet for this to happen against the 'Lutes.

Congrats to several standout Willamette football players on being selected Student Athletes of the week in Scott Schoettgen and Terrell Malley. Schoettgen was all-systems-go versus UPS, while tying the Willamette Career TD catches at 29. Looking to get the big 3-0 against Menlo!

Malley couldn't be stopped on special teams, returning only four kickoffs for 126 yards. His last one was 40 yards, after which he turned around on the next play and rushed the last 39 yards for the score.

Is it too early to do preseason NWC player of the year predictions? I know most of you Linfielders will pick all Wildcats, but I'm interested to see what everyone has to say.

Also, just for kicks, those of you who follow the ENTIRE northwest conference, who do you think this season's top players in skill positions are? I'm talking Quarterback, tailback, flanker/reciever, and maybe even a defensive list as well.
